and Pantene (the basic shampoo w/ a small amount of dimethicone), used with a cone free condish, is what works.

What could be going on?

 sometimes our hair just likes to shake things up for us! My hair used to love emu oil, now it doesn't

That is very strange... usually a clarifying shampoo would do just the opposite of that. They are supposed to be drying, not greasy. I'm interested to know what could be going on. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

They put the wrong product in the bottle? This happens. I once bought hand lotion that turned out to be liquid soap.

It sounds like you have build-up from the clarifying shampoo. This was actually the reason I switched to baking soda, that gets everything off, every other shampoo I tried left "stuff" on my hair.

It happens w/ both Suave and Neutrogena.
