I went to a salon last summer for one and it made my hair feel nice but I don't have the time to go to a salon all the time and I think my hair would benefit from doing a treatment even weekly since it is so dry. On a side note I do a cholesterol (protein) treatment once a month. My hair tends to need the slip from cones, the more slip the better. Hair is fairly straight most of the time. Since I use cones I also shampoo with the suave clarifying shampoo every month or two. So any recommendations?? Thanks so much! I am trying to get a good routine going. At Walmart where I found the cholesterol treatment I saw a hair mayo treatment but that would also be a protein too wouldn't it?

Oil your hair heavily with coconut oil, then let it sit for about two hrs (put your hair in a bun to keep it together) then C/O wash with a light clairifying condish. I suggest Suave clarifying conditioner. This ALWAYS makes my hair feel and look heavenly! Good luck!

Seriously, Suave? I'm surprised that such an inexpensive product comes so highly recommended!

ALenee,
Thanks for the tip. I did purchase a bottle of Suave Clarifying Conditioner. I'm guessing it's recommended to wash out coconut oil as other heavy conditioners might not be able to wash the coconut oil out?
Thanks,

For bought products: check Sally Beauty Supply, try L'Oreal Nature's Therapy Mega Moisture Treatment condish, very good. I love how my hair feels when i use it as a deep condish, and i use this product every time i wash my hair as a regular condish.
For at home made treatments:
Here are a couple. Caramel treatment;
coconut oil
olive oil
wheatgerm oil
shea butter
honey
molasses
Apple cider vinegar
Two overripe bananas
water
I just throw this all in a blender. It freezes rather well, so you won't have to keep making mini-batches every time you wanna use it, just thaw out. It should be a caramel cream look and consistency. Once you coat it on your hair, leave on for a couple hours. If your hair is longer than BSL, it may be easier to put your hair in a ponytail and just do that ponytail portion and loose baggy it to keep it from getting messy. Do not try to manipulate your hair during this time, it is very sticky. Rinse out in the shower. If you have fine hair, this may be all you need, but if you have coarse hair, you may want to follow up with a reconstructor and/or deep conditioner. It doesn't matter how kinky/curly/frizzy your hair is... it will shine like you've never ever seen it do before. I am now a big believer in this and will tell anyone who will listen. It really works!

I have used my own moisture treatment twice with GREAT results. Hair is still wet, but very happy!!!
Snowy's Fave Moisture Treatment
1 part Fave conditioner (must be moisture), mine is VO5-Sun Kissed Raspberry.
1/4 part honey
1/4 part clear aloe vera gel (I use Fruit of the Earth).
Place in a cup and warm in microwave for 10 to 15 seconds--just until warm. Wash hair and squeeze out excess, blot dry, leave in under heat cap, warm towels or shower cap, what have you, for an hour or so. Rinse well. Finish (add leave-in if you do so) and style as usual Wah-la!!! Extreme Moistness. This is great after protein treatments!!!
I have not tried the caramel treatment since i fear molases but i use Snowy's treatment at least twice a month.

I have to second SMTs as my favorite hair treatment ever. Until now, I've been using a deep repair conditioner that sadly has been discontinued (Lavera!!! What is wrong with your company!!!) but find that other conditioners work well.
My hair is always incredibly shiny and super soft after an SMT. IMO, you only need to leave them on for an hour or so to get good results: when I have tried longer, up to 8 hours, results were negligable.
On Sunday night I washed hair that had had a deep conditioner and a lot of leave-in with Herbal Essences, then conditioned the ends with Goth Rosary, using a bit more as a leave-in. WOW! Apart from how my hair feels after an SMT, there is nothing that beats a nice sulfate cleaning every couple of weeks.

Olive oil. Worked amazingly for me. I used it on dry hair before clarifying and on wet hair. Both results were the same, though make sure you get it squeaky clean during your wash, or else it can look really gross/stringy. It makes it soft, smooth and mega shiney. :)
Sadly, Suave Clarifying shampoo gave me horrid dandruff/dry scalp. I have 2 bottles I can't use, so if anyone wants them, they are free to a good home--though you'd need to pay for shipping.
I use Herbal Essence Degunkify clarifying shampoo and my hair always is shiny and happy.

I was experimenting and found the following to work miracles on my hair:
Oil hair generously with emu oil (olive and coconut are too heavy for my hair)
Then mix your favourite Suave or V05 conditioner with 2T honey and apply generously to saturate your hair. Do a loose bun on top of your hair (the mixture will hold it in place even though its not sticky), apply a shower cap, swim cap etc and leave on for an hour.
Rinse out while massaging the scalp and finish with a cool water rinse to close the hair cuticle.
This actually undid pretty bad chlorine damage from daily swimming and leaves my hair shiny, soft, silky and extremely healthy.

Big thumbs up to Jessicurl's Too Shea conditioner or the weekly deep treatment. Both are moisturizing, the deep treatment is a bit richer/heavier.
I also like Philip Kingsley's elasticizer for a deep treatment. It's supposed to be applied as a pre-shampoo treatment, but I have used it after washing with good results.
