3 Years on LHC!
5 years of growing hair

(I had to link to some pics and videos since it is so many)

When I decided to grow my hair it was about shoulder (http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh98/NAGAI-KAMI/Emi/2002langen.jpg) length.

When I came here:

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh98/NAGAI-KAMI/Emi/dez05.jpg
Waist +

I was in search of hairstyles for long hair. Mine had grown to waist-length, and I did not know what to do about it. My husband was in the Army back then and just about to be deployed (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/album.php?albumid=622&pictureid=18849). My plan was to grow it until he gets back, I was aiming for TB length.
I had a rough start when my hair got very damaged at a salon, where a mix of perm solution and a few other chemicals was applied instead of hair dye. A lot of hair broke off (http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh98/NAGAI-KAMI/HP%20Inhalte/Schaeden/shindakami4.jpg),but I decided to keep growing after a trim that brought me to midback.
I did not have a camera in the beginning, just a webcam but this (http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh98/NAGAI-KAMI/Emi/mar06.jpg) is the first shot after breakage, trim and 2 months of growth..a few hairs were at waist again.
I also gave up chemical hair dye in late summer 2007, my hair kept breaking off and that was just not worth it.

My 1 year anniversary:

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh98/NAGAI-KAMI/Emi/dez06.jpg
Sort of TB length

I had grown my hair almost without any trims from spring to winter..it was still really layered and had a distinct V-shape. I liked the V-shape at that length actually..the layers were not bad either.
It is not very visible, but I had also grown out virgin hair (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/album.php?albumid=849&pictureid=23907)to ear length. My dye was black and my virgin hair is a very dark brown – blackbrown. In spring my husband finally returned from his deployment, unlike others in good health. That was the end of Army (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/album.php?albumid=622&pictureid=6431)for us, we moved to the U.S. in order to survive, with the plan of him becoming a police officer.
I decided to grow my hair longer but first wanted to even and thicken up my ends and get rid of layers.
I documented it with monthly pictures here (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/blog.php?b=15319)

My 2 year anniversary:

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh98/NAGAI-KAMI/Emi/dez07.jpg
Midbutt length

In order to maintain a straighter hemline I did monthly trims of 0.5mm/0.2” for most of that year. I have also switched from henndigo to pure henna, actually due to a lack of money (had henna leftovers at home) but then I decided I liked it better. It gave me the reddish tint I was hoping to achieve with henndigo. I worked a lot at that time, including a 2 ½ hr commute from Eastern Long Island to Manhattan, and definitely shed a lot more -_-.

My 3 year Anniversary

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh98/NAGAI-KAMI/Emi/IMG_0718.jpghttp://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh98/NAGAI-KAMI/Emi/IMG_0702.jpg

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh98/NAGAI-KAMI/Emi/IMG_0709.jpghttp://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh98/NAGAI-KAMI/Emi/IMG_0711.jpg
All sorts of views on my hair ^^, up front a few layers sometimes fall over my shoulder. The ends are thicker than in 2007, the light dress is just really brutal ;-)

In Summer I decided it is time for trimming (http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/bb129/chieeEMIchiee/LHC/nkdezemi.jpg) again. Therefore I have not gained much length but some thickness. It will take really long though for my hair to be "not see through" any more..maybe another year of trimming. I guess I might have reached “just classic” length…maybe another cm or two more..
I have grown so much “Virgin” hair, I can almost not believe I had the patience for it. I got to ca. Armpit length in 2 yrs. and 4 mths. There are 3-4 colors in my hair – Roots-> Henna-> Henndigo->Chem.Dye, but it does look pretty even most of the time, since the difference only comes out with specific light. Especially flash. I do usually use a low exposure on flash pictures so I don’t look like a rainbow ^^.
But yeah here are some flashy pictures from the LHC Holiday Meet in NYC :

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh98/NAGAI-KAMI/Emi/IMG_3563.jpg

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh98/NAGAI-KAMI/Emi/IMG_3565-1.jpg

And here (http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh98/NAGAI-KAMI/Emi/IMG_3566.jpg) is image #10..somehow the editor tells me I have 11 images..?_?

See how far my virgin hair and layers are! (http://s254.photobucket.com/albums/hh98/NAGAI-KAMI/Emi/?action=view&current=timeline.jpg)

My layers have grown out to somewhere between waist and hip length. I do have many short layers from shoulder to APL, that look as if someone cut them..they are growing longer though. But overall my hair is looking much more even. My hair does look more see through in certain light …light bulbs seem to shine right through: Video (http://s254.photobucket.com/albums/hh98/NAGAI-KAMI/Emi/?action=view&current=MVI_0725.flv)

Hubby and I (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/album.php?albumid=622&pictureid=27445) now live further west in LI and he just graduated (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/album.php?albumid=622&pictureid=28233) from the NYPD Police Academy ^_^

Live goes on and on..just like my hair grows and grows.

One last question - Classic (http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh98/NAGAI-KAMI/Emi/IMG_0698.jpg) or not and if not when?
(Sorry hair was in a halfup but these are some of the longest ^^)

Wow, thanks everyone for the many, many replies! I read every single one carefully, they mean a lot to me. :cloud9:
Before LHC, I was not confident that longer hair was for me, but I was inspired and wanted to give it a try. In Moments when I felt not so good about my hair I got support right here.

I will try to answer all the question and I want to thank everyone for the nice words and compliments.

You would not believe how inspired I am. Thanks so much for sharing your story with us! You hair is gorgeous, and the henna really adds to it's beauty. The colour reminds me of Coca Cola :p

That is very nice, if you ever feel like giving up again maybe you want to talk to me. It is mostly just those moments that everyone has once in a while and they also mostly fade. I have had it too.:o
The dress is Calvin Klein btw., got it on sale in an outlet .

 I did not think about that...I also did not know you where 12 though O_o

:thudpile:

I have a few henna questions for you....
are you now doing only henna glosses and roots or full hennas?

How many full hennas did it take to get that color? (our virgin color is the same, and I'm on Layer #4)

How often do you Henna?

I started with a Henna Gloss and then switched to full Hennas. Mostly I do it every 3 months but I have also waited longer once or twice. Including the henna gloss this is my 4th Henna, it has always given me a very light shine. My friends thought I had my hair lightened at first, since my Henna Gloss gave me an orange glow. But really it does not lighten my hair, it just shows when it reflects light (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/album.php?albumid=849&pictureid=11831). The last Henna was from Turkey and the color turned out much nicer and redder than usual.
Without much light it looks like the 4 pics I posted in the beige dress.

Your hair is beautiful, Emi. You have been one of my inspirations to trim off all current growth in order to improve the hemline.

Great! I wish you much success with your trims! ^_^

Emichiee, I really like how you seem to "own" your long hair and be 100% comfortable with it... that's what's most inspiring about your hair journey.

Truth is I was the total opposite in the past, especially as a teen. Back then I was bullied for my "ugly" hair, nice people have given me more confidence, LHC as well. I know now I can make the best out of my hair and I will fight hard to get there.

How on earth do you manage to keep your hair so shiny, without being stringy?

Also, Long Island represent.

Hello Long Island ^^ Shine and stringiness don't necessarily have a connection. My hair does have a high tendency for stringiness though. But I noticed that added length and a more even hemline keep that at bay. The ends still get stringy but the more even top stay nice for quite some time now ^^.

Emichiee, your story is so amazing and so detailed. Your hair is so nice, its really true, its like silk in those pictures from the LHC NYC meetup... Just one question, have you ever thought about growing out your bangs at all? I'm just wondering.

Thanks for sharing your story, and all the pictures were so great.

I have grown my bangs out twice, the first time I stuck with it for a few years. The 2nd time was when hubby was in Iraq. It was not bad but my bangs gives me so much more styling possibilities. The way it is cut I can wear it full (rarely), sideswept (mostly), or even out of my face..it stays at the side nicely. It has never been longer than chin btw.

Darkhorse1

I think it is an attractive career path for a real soldier. My husband is definetly not the "behind the desk" kind of guy ^^, so that job suits him. If times were not as bad, he would still rather be Army though.

I hope I did not forget anything..if I did let me know =)

Your hair is gorgeous. Your story is very inspiring to those of us who have thin hemlines or are growing out damaged hair. It's amazing how a bit of time and patience will do. Thank you for sharing.

Emi, I've always admired your hair. It's lovely and I'd consider it classic now. Also, congratulations to your husband's graduation. I hope he enjoys his new profession.

Your hair is so gorgeous, Emichee! I can definitely see a huge improvement, though it really was beautiful from the start. The ends are so much thicker! Congratulations on 3 years at LHC!

Thank you! I am glad the ends seem to be improving so much :o

You've definitely done that for me!! Wow, I think I would've cut my hair, but you definitely showed that didn't need to be done.

So, what I mean to say is: You're a great inspiration!

p.s. I love the health, shine and flowiness of your hair. :)

I'm so glad, it kept you from cutting. Maintaining is also cutting but you get to keep the length and the hair will be more even on the long run :)

Fantastic progress! :bowtome: You seem to have experienced quite a bit of growth. Your hair is stunning and you have straightness and shine that I long for (mine tends to wave)! What's your secret? Can you give me any tips product, treatment, or supplement wise that help it to stay so smooth and shiny and grow at a good rate? I'm trying to lay off the heat styling!

Thanks,
Sissy :o

My hair is growing relatively fast now (1,7cm), I used to be a little ill in the past though and had a tad less growth..maybe 3-5mm less. I don't take supplements any more but they have given me great fingernails ^^.
The best advice I can give you is to do anti-aging with your hair, meaning treat it as gentle as possible and wash it with a mild detergent that does not make the hair shaft swell. It will stay like new much longer. To stop heat styling is a good idea, it really weathers the hair quickly. I have never used heat styling on my hair or maybe once or twice a year ;)
If you want to find out more about my routine check out my first blog entry! :)

Emi you are my hair idoless!

If I could have absolutely anybody from LHC's hair, it would be yours, without a doubt.

Your photos ALWAYS motivate me to keep growing, and search for the perfect hair colour.

Congratulations on your AMAZING hair!

:o:o:o Oh ..wow, thanks so much!

Your hair, Emi is the closest I have seen here to what I think my hair could be at a longer length. I really love seeing your hair grow and how you manage to keep the hem thick. Thank you for sharing. I am always inspired by you.

I never considered my hem to be thick, but thank you and I am looking forward to following your journey further!

Thanks to everyone!

Wow thanks for all the pictures! You really are an inspiration! I remember your sig from before your husband came back. You and your hair have always been beautiful but I just can't believe how thick your hair and hemline are now! Also to me, the different colors of your hair aren't noticeable at all. Congratulations on your LHC anniversary and your beautiful hair!
