View Full Version : what treats is your hair having today?

jojo

Thought it would be good to post what treats we do for our hair.

Last night I soaked my hair with vatika oil and slept in it overnight, this morning I put loads of asda's cheapo conditioner (cone free) and I am sat here with it still on. will be rinsing it off in an hour or so and finishing with an ACV rinse. I do this at least twice a week and my hair loves it.

What treats are you giving your hair today?

my soapnuts have come so im gonna try them too!

Today it gets nothing. Last night I was a bit heavy handed with the coconut oil. Though that was more to make it stay in braids than anything else. I'm still waiting for it to dry so that I can see if it enjoyed the extra oil.

I just tried the WEN sweet almond oil. Not sure yet if if it agrees with my hair yet, but it does smell nice.

Last night I gave it some mega-tek (the horse stuff people are experimenting with) although I am not seeing growth from it my hair loves it as a leave in. I also did some aloe vera gel last night and my hair was silky this morning :)

Tomorrow morning I plan to try the Ojon my hubby gave me for Christmas. I haven't deep conditioned or anything in a while so I think my hair will appreciate it. According to the instructions I'm supposed to emulsify about a teaspoon of it and work it through my hair until it's saturated. Then I'm supposed to wait 20 minutes, after which I'll CWC like usual. I can't wait to see the results. I will also get to use the microfiber towel hubby gave me--yay!

My hair just likes to be washed and then be left alone. Or occasionally some coconut oil, but I don't like the smell after a day. It likes jojoba too, but it quickly gets greasy.

Actually yes, I know a good treat: cold water rinse. Super duper shine, soft and doesn't tangle as much :)

I washed my hair today and keeping it simple does the trick.

I henna'd two days ago, but did not need indigo. Great! Well, I still did not care for that lingering henna smell. So I did SMT. It smells wonderful now.

Congratulations on your fabulous growth this month, jojo. :flowers:

I straightened my hair today - so not a treat...

But wow, my hair is SOOOOOO long. I wish I didn't like straightened hair, but I do. It's the first time I've done that for about three months, and my hair feels so long. Curly hair really means that the growth is slow, every two inches shows up as about half an inch!

But on the plus side, I realise my hair doesn't actually look as nice straightened as it does curly. I like the feel of it, because it feels like 'real' long hair, but it doesn't look as nice as it normally does when it dries into ringlets.

So tomorrow will put a deep oil treatment on my hair and ask it to forgive me!

Happy Hogmanay, everyone.

I did a heavy olive oil soak two nights ago. I thought washing it out would be a problem, but 2 CO washes were fine. I am committing to doing this once a week--on Monday nights, because I'm off on Tuesdays!
As my hair approaches BSL, it is starting to break. I hope this will help.

No hair treats today, unless you count keeping it up and out of the wind/rain/snow/cold a treat.

I am picking up a new batch of conditioner this afternoon, though, so it'll get a little leave-in treat tonight.

Nothing today. Tomorrow I will do a heavyish olive oil treatment. I do this at least 3 times a week. My resolution/goal for 2009 is to do this at least 3x a week every week for the whole year. This has helped my hair incredibly since I had severe protein overload this summer, my hair actually feels like normal.

December 31st, 2008, 02:10 PM
Well the treat my hair is getting today was totally unintentional. Today was wash day, hubby and I took a shower at the same time - he in one bathroom, me in the other. I ended up running out of hot water while rinsing my conditioner out. The conditioner I use is really thick and will not rinse without at least warm water. Me and my hair were getting hit with ice cold water so I gave up. My hair ended up with about half the conditioner rinsed out so I know my hair would be a greasy mess if left alone so I bunned it. So my hair is getting an inadvertent deep conditioning today while it sits in a bun.

oh, me and my hair have big plans tonight :)

i always make chili for new year's (strange tradition started with the b/f like 9 years ago), so while it's cooking, me and the hair ooooh-weeeee....

right now, it's saturated in jojoba oil. when i wash, i'm gonna clarify (adding some aloe vera gel to my clarifying shampoo), then do an olive oil hask & henna protein treatment, an ACV rinse, and then some of the mega-tek stuff on my scalp. by midnight, it should be in a damp bun, in a pretty 60th street dymondwood.

good times :)

I tried my new Carol's Daughter products today. I used the Lisa's Oil the past 2 nights and I was an oil slick. This morning I used their Rosemary and mint poo and the deep conditioner with "Amen" in it. I left that on an hour or so with a plastic cap. I'm not sure how my hair will feel tonight as it's been up with a Ficcare all day. The scent is great. I just hope there is enough slip in these products to keep my hair from tangling.

Today I'm starting my new hair year. My first on LHC and my first aware attemt to try and grow long hair. Or at least healthy.

I'm goint to start with washing all the glitter from last nights party out of it with a CWC and then I'm going to put Body Shops Amlika leave in balsam in it. Guess that's it.

I'm so new here that I just have to take one thing at the time, and the CWC is where I'm starting.

Today I'm going to spritz it with rosewater, lightly oil with unrefined, organic coconut oil, and then slather my ends in a homemade conditioning cream. It's so cold and dry here today that I just want to give my hair as much moistured as possible.

my hair loves a thorough soaking with VCO and then being left overnight and steamed with hot towels the following day. after this i just wash with water only for several days (yes i do have oily hair for a few days) but afterwards my hair is thicker, shinier, and requires no washing or anything for at least a few weeks!!! try it - you will be amazed!!! and water does eventually get out the coconut oil - and the rest gets soaked up by your hair.

I have the conditioner. A friend got it for me at some special stylist only discount store. However, I know you can purchase it online and I believe I've seen Joico products in some departments stores as well (possibly KMart or pharmacies such as Rite Aide). Also, I'm pretty sure they'd sell it in professional salons which carry Redken, Biolage. Yes, my hair is a dry, fly-away, weightless mess usually.

Today was a wash day, so I used my Yes To Carrots shampoo and used Mega-Tek Rebuilder as a conditioner. My hair adores this stuff! It looks much less stringy and more voluminous after just two conditionings.

After the wash, I worked two drops of camellia oil through my length and put it back in a claw clip. I'd have to say this is my favorite oil. My hair feels like silk.

Yay for treats!

But...I also got some Vatika Enriched Coconut Hair Oil and tonight my hair and scalp are having a heavy oiling with that and tomorrow I will wash with Soapnuts. I also got a variety of Hesh Indian Herbal Hair care products so I might add some Shikakai to the Soapnut liquid tomorrow, I'm not sure yet. Update: The soy yogurt hair mask was okay, it didn't irritate my scalp and didn't make my hair scrunchy or anything bad. But on the other hand I didn't notice big difference either. Hair was well moisturized, soft and shiny. I might do this again some time if I have some excess soy yogurt :)

As of my hair treat of today, this is my staple: Mixed some AVG with lavender and rosmary EOs and applied into scalp. Leave-in on length.

I'm so sorry I missed your replies. I certainly should've checked back sooner. :o

sounds very cool! Where does one find this product? :)

Mmmmmm these are cool products and I'm a complete product HO, for them :p
They can be purchased at salons and I think if you go to their website it will find salons in your area. I see them at my local drug store (Rite Aid); however, the mark up is incredible. Luckily my friend is a nail tech and I go to the salon store with her. I got a chealating shampoo, regular shampoo and conditioner, K-pak, hair spray :heartbeat and many many brand name items for my daughters x-mas gifts for like $60.00. It was AWESOME! The hairspray is so nice. In a salon the products would've cost me 3-4x more.

I do love the results of the K-Pak Joico Reconstruct. It was recommended to me by a woman who trims my hair. She is a certified hair stylist although doesn't work in the field. She went to a special stylist only store she has a membership to and the Joico is something they recommended to her. She got me a bottle for like $10 as they get a discount.:o

My hair is so soft and shiny after I use the products. I've been using Joico off and on for 20 years. Wow, I can't believe its been around for that long. Sheesh, I'm getting old. I would never be able to afford the products without my friends discount. Next time I go back I'm buy like 5 bottles of hairspray; then I'm going to hide them from my daughter. It was only $6.00/ea and definitely worth it. If you don't go through it fast, it's worth it to buy even from the salons ;)

Last night I did a funky mix, was trying something new to get my hair as shiny as possible!
You all have awesome mixes, I am gonna try everyone of them too!

nettle extract, few drips
chamomile tea whole cup
powdered oatmeal, 1/4 cup
plain yogurt, 1/4 cup
2 tblspn cornsilk
1/4 cup bhringaraj powder
silk protein 2 tsp
1 tsp of lime juice
2 tblspn soyquat and honeyquat

I made this a mask, with heat.
Rinsed and it worked! My hair was super soft and shiny!!!
My ends were real shiny too, I never had such shiny ends? Very interesting, now I am just trying to find out why they were so shiny?
i have never used cornsilk, bhringaraj powder or soy/honey quat, so maybe its those reasons. Has anyone else used these things before?

As I'm typing, I'm doing a coconut milk soak. A whole freakin' can of coconut milk is in my hair right now! This is the first time I've tried coconut milk, I'm using the Whole Foods store brand. I know it doesn't keep for that long once opened, that's why I decided to use the whole can. The worst I've heard about it is that it will make hair greasy, which would even be an improvement because of how dry my hair is right now. I've been doing SMT's and other treats to it, and nothing seems to be giving me the moisture I need.

I washed it in the shower after 7 days. I had never gone this long and I won't again. I just wanted to see how long I could go before it got too skeevy for me. 5 days is my limit from now on. I do my very thick/big bangs every day. I just feel so much better when my whole head of hair is fresh and clean.

What are you doing to try to get your DD's hair to grow?Helping her hair grow is what originally got me in to Indian Herbal Washes and Oiling. We do a scalp massage with the Vatika atleast once a week hopefully moving toward 2 times a week soon, and she is using the Hesh Herb Powders to wash. Her hair is in a chin lenght bob and its Henna/Indigo'd to be Black. Her hair is beautiful, thick and shiny, but it just stopped growing completely the last 5 months or so.

Today was my first soapnut shampoo, after reading a few different recipes here, here's what I did :

- shea butter yesterday (lengths)
- 13 soapnuts (26 halves) in something like 250 / 300 ml boiling water. Soak overnight.
- 6 (or so, let's say "a few") drops of tea tree oil (that's for dandruff) mixed in a tiny bit of honey to have it all mix well within the soapnut water

I used something like 1/3 of the whole mixture I think, trying both the foaming and "regular pouring", then followed by ACV rinse.

Had my SO cut the ends that needed leveling : for christmas I cut the ends of my two side braids straight, makes it look quite cute but of course once hair is down it's not even at all, so today was the much needed trimming.

Then, air-drying with hair down, on a walk in the fields with sun and fresh hair : maybe it's only superstition, but I love the feeling and look of my hair when it dries this way.

And last but not least, shea butter again for the ends.

And I asked my SO to take pics right after the trimming - as soon as they're uploaded, I'll post them here, in a new thread. Can't wait to see them cause I think my hair isn't that bad after all - we'll see what you all think.

My hair is currently enjoying a long coconut oil/aloe soak. I meant to wash my hair last night, but my apartment has no water. So, I soaked it up and I'm going to wash tonight.

Also, question: I'm planning on starting No Poo/BS washes. Do you have to do an ACV rinse, or can you just use conditioner?

Also, question: I'm planning on starting No Poo/BS washes. Do you have to do an ACV rinse, or can you just use conditioner? Most people do an acid rinse after BS but I think it's just because of the no-product ideals. It won't hurt to try. I'm pretty sure most conditioners are a bit acidic. The idea behind it is to close the hair shaft because the BS opens it up.

ETA: My hair got a Vatika Enriched Coconut Hair Oil massage and soak Friday night, Aritha/Shikakai wash 2 times yesterday, and a Castor Oil/Jasmine Oil oil massage and soak with heat last night. I will do another Indian Herb wash today. I normally wouldn't do so much, but I'm so in love with the Scalp Massage with oils that I have been craving it this weekend.

I'm also applying Indigo to my DD's best friend today, she got henna last sunday. All of my teens are henna heads. Their friends parents have been asking what I do to their hair to make it so healthy. I think this could go somewhere...

I can tell from your sig phto that your treats are working well and your hair is loving it, very shiny and happy hair:D
Actually just right now, my hair is soaked with olive oil and wrapped with a plastic cap and a scarf. It's been like this for an hour, and one more hour to go brfore shampoo and conditioner, that's my weekly treat. Mine went to the salon today, had all of the dead ends cut out, and got really well washed/conditioned with a ton of cones (my hair thrives with cones) and moisture.

Our local walmart sucks cause you can't find giovanni products and stuff like that there. and we have no walgreen's or the like.

Oh I know what you mean! I live in a pretty rurual area of Missouri and it is hard to get ahold of anything around here! They just recently started selling Giovanni products at my local Wal-Mart. Before then I either had to drive to the Target (in another town), or buy it online. It was such a hassle:rolleyes:
And whats worse is that I just moved here a few months ago from a town in Tn. that carried everything I needed!

Today I put some Neem oil in my hair (after making it a little bit wet) and tonight before I go to bed I'm going to wash it with shikakaipowder. My last rinse is with green tea which makes my hair more soft.

I braid my hair before I go to sleep and in the morning when I unbraid it, it feels and looks good.

I trimmed my hair today using Feye's straight across method.
I completely cut off the bottom layer of my hair. I've been putting it off for way too long. My ends were really crunchy and dry and nothing was helping. My hair feels and looks soooo much better.

I lost about 2 inches, but it was definitely worth it.

Now I'm letting some coconut oil soak in. :)

It's heavily oiled and up in a bun right now...waiting to be washed after housework and groceries.
....it was good at the salon the other day, so now it gets a lolly. ;-p

Do you consider ultra-slow drying a treat? I had to braid it while it was still quite wet, and, although it means it won't dry completely until sometime tomorrow morning, it leaves it feeling so lovely...

Yes, many members here bun their hair when it's damp, it's called (surprise!) damp bunning. I think the braid offers almost all the same benefits than bun.

All hairtypes/scalps/persons don't enjoy damp bunning, but since your hair likes them, I'd count it as a treat :).

Today is wash day so ridding my scalp of the super greasiness will be a treat in and of itself. Of course I will apply a nice coat of coconut oil & let it sit while I watch American Idol before I CWC.

My hair had coconut oil in all last night and today. I've topped it up this evening with olive oil, avocado oil, more coconut oil, conditioner, honey, lemon juice and castor oil.
It's been either braided or in an updo to help protect it.

Just debating whether to add more before I go to bed and sleep in it, or wash it out.

An SMT (I have it every wash) with no aloe, and I kept it up almost all day if that counts! :D I also oiled it heavily before wash with sweet almond/coconut and then added coconut after my wash.
I also put the hard to get coconut into a open face jar... thank god it's easier now. @_@

Yesterday, I tried this Henna n' Placenta from Sally's. It came in a little packet and actually smelled really good. (I've been contemplating it a while but the placenta put me off...the smell still disturbs me cause it smells really good)

I did my first real hair treat today. I'm not sure how it turned out yet, since it's still wet. But this is what I did:

I shampooed my hair like normal, and then dried it some with a towel. Then I put a blob of aloe vera gel mixed with a bit of extra virgin olive oil all over my hair and let it sit for an hour. I got in the shower again and rinsed all the goop out. I finished with an ACV rinse (1 TB vinegar, 1 cup water, 1 drop rosemary EO), which I let sit for a minute and rinsed out.

I hope it looks good when it dries! It sure smells good though.

Also, another treat: my bohn comb arrived today! (black hand pic from hairsense) No more seams for my poor hair!

My usual vitamins and poo bar with air drying only, but today I used a lot less hairspray on my bangs and I also am wearing my snood loose so that my hair has more circulation. I am even thinking of a little olive oil on the ends before bed as a test to see what my hair does with it, but that's still questionable ^_^

Sante Brilliant Care conditioner
perhaps a little bit of jojoba oil as leave-in
I let it air dry.

I just did my first olive oil treatment. Then I found a blend of oils (has jojoba, coconut, sunflower, sesame, etc, plus essential oils like lavender in it), and I put a few drops of that on, too. I combed it through carefully with my wooden comb (was I suppossed to comb it? I hope so!). So far it's been on more than an hour. I'm going to try to let it sit another hour or so.

We'lll see how my head likes it!
