View Full Version : My first egg and ACV rinse!!!

O.k, yesterday I did my first ever egg and ACV rinse. The results were amazing, I think it was a good combination as I could feel the thickening affects of the egg which however left the hair feeling a bit straw-like, the ACV seemed to balance this, after oiling my hair it felt amazingly soft, thick and was very shiny (thankyou ACV), I even wierdly enough felt as if somehow it had lightened my hair as you will see from the pictures . I began by detangling and oiling my hair and doing a scalp massage. I did my first shampoo to get rid of the built up oil in my hair, I then massaged the scalp with the egg, I used two eggs but now realise that one would have been enough for my APL hair, I then did my second shampoo and rinsed thoroughly with warm water, lucky for me it didn't have to be ice cold to keep me from having a hair omelette :D, speaking of which I myself beat the eggs together whole in omelette style. I then applied the ACV rinse, rinsing it out with water which left no trace of the smell, I had myself diluted it by putting a bit in the base of a mug and filling the mug up with water. I then conditioned and rinsed, then without doing anything to it left it to dry .
I am going to post a proper album if you guys want to see more pictures but here are a few. I would also question the fact that it may have lightened my hair :o this looks almost blonde:

You can see here the thickness and shine:

This is to quickly show the thickness and shine of a simple bun and plait:

As I say I'm going to make that album now with some styles that show the thickness and shine :D:D:D I would egg on every one else to try this!:o

Whoa ... your hair came out absolutely beautiful! :bowtome:Although, I'm sure it was beautiful before. Now, I'm tempted to put some egg in my hair... alas, one thing at a time I'm doing EVOO today. But, wow! I cannot believe it... it's so beautiful. The only thing that concerns me is that it may have made your hair lighter. I want my hair DARKER so not sure if I should do it?

Also, is putting egg in your hair the same thing as doing a protein treatment, such as Queen Helene Cholesterol Treatment?

Cheers,
Sissy:o

Thankyou so much!!! I'm not sure but I reckon eggs are almost exactly the same as a protein treatment, they certainly are classed as one, they are packed with protein, strengthening and thickening your hair, they also contain sulphur, which is meant to aid hair growth (though this may make your hair thicker rather than longer), if you do do it, I'd vouch for using it combined with an ACV rinse, and good oiling after as egg does tend to make hair stronger though more straw like, hope that helps :D

See that's what I thought but then again I'm not entirely sure whether or not lighting has a part to play. I think I can help you out here with wanting to darken your hair, I've heard molasses are great for darkening your hair, (it's a kind of a dark, treacle-like stuff), it's like the opposite of a honey-lightening treatment, I'd say go for it and try this out if you want your hair to be darker :D

fantastic, thanks for the reply. I have been told about molasses before but I have yet to try it. I do have some in the kitchen cabinet.
Cheers!

Okay, I tried to sum up your steps below:
oil
shampoo
egg
shampoo
acv rinse
rinse
condition
rinse
leave alone

That is too many steps for me. :p I may just scramble an egg and put it on my hair and wash it out and use an ACV rinse at the end, and hope for the same results, lol. Also, when you say you massaged your scalp with 2 eggs, did you include your hair's length and get it coated with egg as well? Did you leave it on before washing it out?

Hey Kerynna, don't cook that egg! What a mess that would be. You use raw egg on your hair, and rinse it out in cool water so it won't cook.

I've had trouble with the egg cooking a bit anyway, so I use ice cold water to rinse. It's so much trouble that I don't do this very often.

Dreamernz, beautiful results! How funny the color difference in your photos. Are you more blond, or more brown?

Ha ha! Yeah. I meant "scramble" in the sense of beating it in a cup with a fork but I was also being jokey in my use of that word. Cooked egg in hair would not be something I would try, no matter how glowing the review!

Whew, what a relief! I always seem to find some cooked egg bits in my hair when I do this, and they're a right pain to get out. Looks like boogers.

Lool, I only did the scalp initially, but some of the egg did run down the length and I did smooth it over the length a bit . I didn't leave it in (the prospect of dry egg in your hair is not an attractive one :p), no I just made sure to properly work it in and rinse it out immediately with warm/lukewarm water.

Thanks so much janeytillie! :D funnily enough I think I saw one of your comments on another thread saying how thick and shiny it made your hair and I thought right, I've got to try that :D

Thanks so much Girltron! It's wierd about the colour isn't it? I am not too sure of it myself :D I am suspicious of the egg but only time will tell if it actually has an affect, or if it was just the lighting :D:D:D

Wow Dreamernz! It's great you've found something that gives you such wonderful results!

I've been wanting to try mayonnaise for a while, but I think I may just use eggs now :D
(probably just the yolk too..)

Thanks fantak!, yes I'll definitely keep to this routine maybe once a week or once a fortnight at best and see how it goes :D Why only the yolks may I ask? Some people use the whites, some yolks, I thought heck, they must both be good :D:D:D

wow, what awesome results!

I might have to give that a try... but I'll have to use white vinegar in place of the ACV, since my hair doesn't care for cider stuff. I wonder if that would change the results?

hmmmmm because I'm a confused little bunny.. lol I thought yolks had more protein in but have just googled it and it's the whites that have more protein

I also thought I read on LHC somewhere that it's the whites that scramble in your hair and can be drying.

K will just throw two eggs into a bowl and whisk into my hair then :D Won't be for a couple of days but will tell you how it goes ^.^

Thank you so much RocketDog! The white vinegar should be fine, I think all the good hair vinegars have a smoothing affect on the cuticle which is what you want as after the eggs your hair get's rough and straw-like, I don't know if it would change the results but if you've used white vinegar before and it worked for you, it should definitely work here, make sure to lightly oil the hair after as it may dry pretty fast I forgot to say I also squirted sp hydromilk in my wet hair to lock in moisture :D

I apologize if I missed it being mentioned, but how long do you keep the egg (and ACV) mixture on your hair? Thanks :)

I'm guessing you meant ACV? ACV is short for Apple Cider Vinegar ^.^

I tried an egg mask for the first time a couple of days ago, didn't do a vinegar rinse though, my scalp doesn't like the acid shock. I only left it on for 15 minutes, my hair was a little softer and more manageable then usual but nothing drastic.

It didn't smell at all though! I think I may try it again for 20 mins and see how it goes.

Thanks so much lilcoopr! Lol I don't actually leave the egg in, I thoroughly work it into my scalp as if it were shampoo, smoothing some of it over my hair, and then I wash it off, straight away, I don't like the idea of dry bits of egg in my hair :D

Actually, I doubt it's cooked egg you're finding; more likely to be membrane. My solution is to beat the egg very, very well.

I used to wash my hair in eggs all the time, when I was a teenager. :)

Congratulations on finding something that really works for your hair, dreamernz!
