Woohoo, my flexis came! I ordered them not this Monday but the Monday before, and it's Friday here so overall that's not too bad for shipping time. I got two smalls and a medium, and they're great sizes for my BSL i/ii hair. They came to work so as soon as I got them I took my bun out and had a play :)
I'm wearing the medium topaz in my updo right now, wheeeeee!

Okay, kids! I finally got the mini flexi! :P It's actually too small for her bun, but it works pretty well as a "pony tail" holder. I think I'd need one size up for her bun...

She's actually in a puppy cut now, with just the top knot and tail long... it got WAY too hot this summer, and walks just weren't fun for her anymore at floor length. :( Maybe we'll start going back that long in the fall.

I have just discovered LillaRose by reading a few pages back here.
*COMPLETELY SPEECHLESS*
Why didn't you tell me before?! :):)

How it it possible that they have so much more styles? I'm a slave of This one (https://secure.lillarose.biz/MemberToolsDotNet/(S(bytc0glflogiwvzlanqhwdgr))/ShoppingCartNew/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=18537&CatalogueID=204&PartyID=-1&PartyGuestID=0&InternalUse=1&ProductGroupString=67.71).

How about their shipping? Flexi ships for 7$ international. And LillaRose? I'll be purchasing 3 or 4 Flexis soon and... On my... Sorry for overreacting but I see so many new styles and I love them much more than those presented on official side...!

Oh, wait. I can't buy anything there because I'm nor from US/Canada/Mexico.
Fail.
Oh... It almost hurts. To see half a dozen Flexis that I'd LOVE to have and have to go back to old "official" models. ;(

And their sticks... Ooooh.
Is it possible to purchase them anywhere else? Again, HOW do they do that? Why those models are not on official page? :(:(

As for silver -- yay! I'm not the only one who's less than ecstatic about the dominance of silver Flexis on the site! I wonder if there are more of us? And maybe it would do some good to let Flexi know that we non-silver-fanciers exist? :)

This week, I am ordering my first Flexi8! :D I was lucky enough to get to know what size I am (squintinschool had her XL and her L at the Toronto meet) ! I'm wondering why there is so many more lovely designs for M (I am a XL). I would have ordered tonight, but I am torn between the Celtic Cross, Celtic Circle, and silver with colour beads. I will post pictures when they arrive!

Knitty, stroll on over to the Self-made Hairtoys thread, a few members have made some lovely Flexi-wannabe's :) I believe they are made from piano wire, but I can't find the link at the moment to confirm that. Good luck with your efforts, and of course pictures are mandatory! :D

Do you think I would need an XL flexi for a full updo like a french twist? My ponytail circumference is about 3.75 without bangs, and it's 29" long (just slightly above waist). I have an XS flexi that I use to fake half-ups, but I probably really need a small for that, as the extra small is not large enough for normal half-ups, just enough to pull back pieces of hair from my face.

It sounds like you may have to send them a request for a custom design. The Flexi-8 site, not Lilla Rose. I don't think Lilla Rose does custom orders.

I do think most styles come in the warm metals, but they always seem to just list silver. The one time I ordered from Flexi8's home site, I just bought a princess style XL in black/silver, and in the notes I put "can this be made in brass with garnet beads" and they did that with no problem.

In the FAQ, they say you can order a style in a different size by ordering a flexi in the size you want (i.e. XL) and asking for the SKU number of the "wrong" sized one. But you have to match the price it'd be.. like a simple style is $19 or $19.95, but the dangly styles are $24. (I imagine I'd mess that up somehow...)

I'm always afraid they'll miss the note, or I'll happen to pick something that doesn't come in brass though. I'm probably just paranoid.

From left to right they are the Princess Tiara Jet in Large, the Simple Band Gold in Medium, the Flower Blossom Medley in Medium, and the Simple Band in Small. I'm wearing the Simple Band now and I love it. The photo says collection 1 because I'm sure I'll be ordering more in the future:D.

Hi~I'm new here and about to begin my collection of Flexi-8s. I'm willing to experiment with the sizing, since I understand there's a bit of 'individual differences' involved with that. I'm thinking of starting with a medium and a large. Medium for French twists/foldy things, and large for buns (either now or, if it's too large, when my hair regrows more).

I do have a question: Is there any difference or preference, between ordering from the Flexi-8 site itself, or from Lilla Rose? I don't completely understand why there are two sites selling the same product, so...just wondering how they differ (if at all).

CrisDee
June 27th, 2011, 08:33 AM
Hi, Sugar&Nutmeg, welcome to LHC! :flower:

Flexi8 is the original site, many of us have ordered from them. The advantage of ordering directly from the Flexi8 site is that you can customize your Flexi - for instance, order a different centerpiece, or order the design in gold rather than silver.

Lilla Rose is Flexi8's multi-level marketing division, a la Tupperware or Mary Kay, where you order through a consultant. The advantage of Lilla Rose is they have more designs, and they have a "Flexi of the Month" that's only available for that month. But (a) you have to order through a consultant (or become one yourself), and (b) you can't customize your Flexi.

Each has its own advantages and disadvantages - but with either you get some very pretty shiny things! :inlove:

Okay, I'm in love.

My first three Flexi-8's arrived today. I ordered them on Thursday.

Right now, I'm wearing the medium in a French twist. It looks beautiful, feels weightless and holds firmly. The large works with a bun, and the mini holds two twisted side sections back in a modified half-up.

I definitely need more of these. :)

So I finally managed to get my hands on a flexi-8, a toy that I've been lusting after since I joined LHC, and after playing with it for a bit I'm having problems:(

It's a medium that I thought I could use for halfups and small buns, but whatever notch I put it on, it seems to fall out. I think the problem is this: I either put too much hair in, causing it to snap open, or too little so there is not enough tension to hold itself in. I can do a ponytail, but ponytails make my hair all tangled.

Does anyone have any advice? I'm probably doing something obviously wrong. I REALLY want flexi-8s to work for me as they are so pretty and was saving up to get some big ones to use for buns.

dulce
July 15th, 2011, 09:01 AM
Paranda Belle, you will need different size flexis for different dos.It sounds like it's too big for your style.I use a mini for half up,a xsmall or small for half up in a bun, a xsmall or small for pony ,a xsmall for the end of my braid, and a xl or mega for a full lazy wrap bun. Also 1 noticed if 1 oil my hair where i wear my flexi in a pony then it will slide out ,even the xsmall slides out ,so 1 only oil my ends. From my experience they never snap open,if it's too small for you you won't be able to close it.You probably need a xsmall or small for half ups.If you put it in a braid down your back, do just a short braid leaving a long tassel and attach the flexi there,if you braid too far down it tapers and the flexi doesn't hold as well.

dulce
July 15th, 2011, 09:04 AM
If you use the right size flexi for your dos,it will hold like a rock!

It's a medium that I thought I could use for halfups and small buns, but whatever notch I put it on, it seems to fall out. I think the problem is this: I either put too much hair in, causing it to snap open, or too little so there is not enough tension to hold itself in.
Paranda Belle, changing notches doesn't really seem to help me. The important thing is to figure out just how much hair will work with each size. Keep trying with your half-up. If it is too loose, include a little more hair in the half-up. If it is too tight, take some out. There should be a happy medium where it will work.

Does anyone have any advice? I'm probably doing something obviously wrong. I REALLY want flexi-8s to work for me as they are so pretty and was saving up to get some big ones to use for buns.

A medium is probably too large to do stable half-ups except with very, very thick hair! I'd suggest trying yours in a Nautilus or a lazy wrap bun. It should be fine for those styles and other centre-held ones, even at your length. (CinnamonHair has a video somewhere showing how she uses quite small hairtoys to hold her knee-length hair in centre-held styles!)

I wouldn't say that my hair is very, very thick, but mediums work for my half-ups. Maybe I just use a lot of hair in my half-ups? I usually put a little more than half of my hair in the clip. I can also wear a small in my half-ups, if I include less hair.

Fair enough! On the rare occasions that I do half-ups I put less than half my hair in the clip, so a small is the largest that'll work for me! But then my hair isn't as thick as yours in the first place.

While this sale is only two days, it might be more useful than we realize. You see the prices on Flexi's are going up for good, a dollar or two each. So the free shipping is their way of making it up to their loyal customers and easing the price transition.

From the site: "Flexi-Fans,
(http://www.flexi8.com/new-prices.html?id=4tnMnAUQ)
I hope you are enjoying the free shipping through Saturday! Some of you may have noticed that we have raised our prices. As you know, Flexi8.com pricing has remained the same for many years even though during that time our costs have steadily increased. Up until now, I have absorbed the increases since I derive no pleasure in charging more for my Flexi.

However, as you all have experienced, prices are going up everywhere, with no exception to my supply vendors. I am grateful for your purchases and hope you will remain a loyal Flexi-8 customer.

All the best!
John "

It's all quite reasonable, really. It's just If you've been planning to buy one but putting it off, now might be the time to make the purchase. The dollar or two I mentioned is because I've been keeping tab on the prices, myself, but I can't take advantage because my funds are down to a minimum until fall quarter begins, y'know, and with this sudden injury (broke my foo Tuesday night) I just want everyone to get their chance and be informed. Are you absolutely certain these are extra larges and not megas? Because I just got an extra large and it looks decidedly smaller than than those. The pin on yours appears to be actually wider than your head and looks more like hairstick length (like a 6.25 of a mega) and the flexi in general seems to reach almost all the way across the back of your heads whereas mine doesn't do that. The proportions of your flexi on your head is just so much different than mine on me it's hard to explain how they could possibly be the same size. And no I don't have a large head. I think my head is on the small side actually.

I'm am actually trying to decide whether I should exchange the extra large for a mega. But I just keep thinking that can't be right because my hair really isn't that thick. I'm on the thinner side of ii, although I don't have any layers or much taper either.

ETA: I am trying to do full buns. I could make a LWB work, figure 8 and center-held cinnabuns were iffy. I really don't want a $30 toy that can only work with one style.

I'm not entirely sure, since I've never seen a mega flexi, but I wouldn't have the money for three mega-flexis for sure, I have ordered from the extra large page, here is the receipt:

Maybe there was a error or something like it. I'm planning to buy a mega-flexi in some months, so I will compare the sizes then. Also, my head is small too, I was actually surprised that the buns were so big compared to my head :o.

Might have something to do with camera angle as well -- photos can be very misleading that way!

Anyway, if the pin on your flexis is 13.5cm, you definitely have XLs and not Mega-Flexis. My own two XLs are exactly the same length as yours!

It arrived only the other day and I hung it on my hairtoy scarf immediately. That day my friend came over and was really impressed with it. I told her I'd gotten it on the swap board and she immediately said "How much... Can I buy it from you?"
"No, I just got it and it will let me do folded braids and ponytails."
"Oh, if you can use it then never mind."
"You probably want a for your hair, too."
"Is this a small then?"
"No, it's a large."
She tried it on and concurred.
But she wants one because it is so pretty!

Those are lovely, Theobroma. I really like the rose center. I never seen one like this! :)

I actually found them via the Lilla Rose site. The antique brass clip is just the large version of a small or mini clip that was available on the site, and the copper one is a complete custom, based on the rose centre that was on a Lilla Rose clip that had lots of silver in it.

Silver doesn't look nice in my hair, so I asked on the main site and luckily they had the parts in stock to make me an all-copper (and green metallic) clip featuring that rose centre.

Flexi-8 is fantastic about creating customs. Deanna went digging through their stock twice to find the centres for me, and she's always wonderful about making custom clips and telling one how exactly to request the customisations when ordering through the website. I just finished thanking her in a private email. Really stellar service!

Giuditta, that Flexi was MADE to go in your hair!

And yes, they do customise. The procedure for requesting a custom through the site is a bit unintuitive (at least to me), but it works, and if in doubt, submit a help request and they'll let you know exactly what to specify to make sure you get the clip you want. They're very friendly and helpful.

And Giuditta, I have the same problem with the colours I want! So many of the standard clips are silver, and that's a colour that just doesn't look good in my hair. I've convoed them several times to ask whether they can supply a specific clip in a different colour. Luckily they're so helpful about making them if they have the parts in the right colours!

Thank you very much Theobroma! Yes, this hairstyle looks elegant and professional! I also have trouble doing decent log rolls, but this came out ok, I think...Is there more hairstyles that can be done using a flexi-8? I only know cinnabuns, lazy buns, figure 8s and this log roll...I can't do nautilus buns, they are to big for the flexi.

Try braided buns and Gibraltor bun (it's a slight variation on cinnamon bun so it should still work). Did you grip just the center part for the nautilus bun? :o I would think that the nautilus bun would work for you if the lazy wrap bun wasn't a problem because both are center held buns. I still can't do a proper nautilus at my length though so I don't know if there are any discernible differences between the 2 in terms of Flexi8 usage

I like to do a French twist with a Flexi, though at the moment it's a bit tricky as the size large is getting a bit too small for that style while the XL is still a bit loose on it. But given the right size Flexi, a French twist will hold like a rock all day.

I second that. Lazy Wrap and Nautilus are identical for me in terms of Flexi-8 usage. They're both centre-held buns, so the same size Flexi works for both of them.

I didn't even know what a flexi8 was until I saw this thread, but now I'm drooling over the website. I'll probably end up buying one late tonight because that's usually when my online impulse buys happen.

Still not sure what size to get though. My hair is just past my shoulders, layered, and not very thick. I'm thinking maybe the small. I'm not a big fan up half up styles on myself so I'll probably be doing the ends up (I think that's what they called it) and french twist type styles.

Thank you for all the nice comments on my hairstyle! It is very easy to do. For the big "bow", I made a ponytail, split it in two roughly equal parts and made a rope braid from each part. Then I simply looped each braid twice (once works as well, but my hair is long enough that I can loop it twice) and fastened with a large Flexi. I had made two thin accent braids (rope braids there, too) and looped them similarly, and fastened this bow with an extra small Flexi. :D

Flexis always have me drooling. There are some pretty hairsticks out there, but uh... I like shiny things and don't wear any jewelery. :P I was curious though, any idea what size I should get? I never do half-ups (thin, fine hair just ends up looking silly, I think, or maybe it just doesn't suit my face) and am not over-fond of ponytails, so it's pretty much all buns for me.

My ponytail circumference is about 2.5", though that is leaving out my bangs. So my cinnabuns usually end up having about a 2-2.5" diameter, give or take depending on how tight I do it. I'm not sure how much of the pin is supposed to be able to stick out though, or how limited my style options are going to be if I buy a larger one as opposed to a smaller one, or vice versa. Call me a hairtoy newb, since the only ones I have at the moment are homemade hairsticks. I've looked at the sizing video thing, and just can't quite decide between a small and a medium, and if I get the small, how long before I grow past where it's useful in buns? Because my bangs, which are rather thick, are going to be added in to that consideration within the next few months, and my buns recently have been getting flatter and wider; if I hold it with a hairstick, a cinnabun might grow close to having a 4" diameter and staying very close to my head. Which is odd, my hair usually has a tendency to sprout outwards instead of cooperating....

Which is odd, my hair usually has a tendency to sprout outwards instead of cooperating....

Perhaps my Flexi stats will be useful for reference. I have a 3" circ; a small Flexi will hold my ponytail firmly and a medium holds quite nicely too if I'm not being too active. That same medium will work in centre-held buns like the LWB and Nautilus, though I prefer to use a large for them because of the longer pin. I imagine the large Flexi will work in those buns pretty much forever, no matter how long I grow my hair! But I recently graduated to the XL for cinnabuns, which are now fitting nicely and not looking too loose (there's a pic in my album if you're interested, along with some of large Flexis in Nautilus buns) while still having a bit of room for more thickness and length.

I have the same tendency as you to do flatter/wider buns, and since I currently still have masses of taper, the 4" cinnabun diameter sounds about right for me as well. So I suspect that my sizes would work for you too.

I suppose it depends on how you use it - I use several sizes - the small or extra small size is excellent for half ups, I can use large Flexis for certain buns or double-looped braids, and I have used a medium flexi for a doubled braid. I have no pictures of the latter style, but there are several examples of my half-ups and looped braids in the last few pages of this thread.:)

Thank you, Ishie! I did not much like the Flexis when i first bought them - I have very slick hair and they will slide right out unless I wear them in a way my hair gets along with! Which is why I often wear them with some kind of coiled braids. :D

I don't wear mine very often as the medium is to small now, but here is one updo with the butterfly flexi.

I'm sure this question has been asked before but this thread is too long and I did a search without the results I wanted.... does anyone use the mini flexis for securing braids? Are there any pics? I like to wear braids quite often and I'm looking for an alternative to elastics. I have larger flexis for up dos and love them!

I tried this once with the only size i have a medium, and it was ok but would of fitted better with a small. Look in my album if you like;)

bunzfan~ Your albums are SO INSPIRING! You have such a talent for updos!! I only saw pictures of a flexi securing the top of a braid, my apologies if I missed it I meant using a mini flexi to secure the bottom of a braid... like an english braid or french braid.

Do you think this is one of the easiest hair toys to work with? I'm such a fumble fingers. What is the easiest updo toy?

My flexis just arrived yesterday. I would say they are by far the easiest updo tool yet (besides scrunchies). I am also a fumble fingers, and I struggle to do most updos. They are either too tight or not secure enough. I am wearing a flexi right now. I put it in almost two hours ago, and it is still solid. I got it on the second try. I would defiantly recommend it! :)

Very nice, Alvrodul!

That happens to be one of my favourite centres; I'm seriously considering getting another rose clip myself... even though I equally seriously don't need any more hairtoys right now! (My two TT customs arrived today... ooh!)

Well I don't have a ton of hair toys but the flexi was my first one and I absolutely think it is the easiest to work with :)

The question was asked about a braid with a flexi, one of my favourite styles is a long braid down the back, braided just a few inches [maybe four]held with a xsmall flexi and a long tassel.1 like to match my earrings colour with my flexi colour.1t works well and holds all day.

It just suddenly occurred to me - the official Flexi-8 website has that blue-32088 discount code, so does Lilla Rose offer the same deal too??

ETA: I apologize for the repetition :o I was too quick to post my question right when I came to the Flexi-8 thread and missed Catladyintown's question.

Sundial I don't know I hope so.

I was just curious because someone posted about free shipping for the Flexi-8 website and said Lilla Rose was offering the same deal. I think it was either in this thread or the Discount Code thread. So it got me wondering if Lilla Rose matches other deals offered by Flexi-8

I have 4 of the flexi8 toys that I have purchased from various craft festivals, they seem to hold my hair fairly well and are open to a variety of styles. They do come in a variety of sizes as well, so I own an large, 2 mediums and a small one.

Hi. I recently got a mini-flexi for braids, it works pretty good, though a tad small for me. Sorry, no pics yet. But I have also used extra-smalls for that, and it works too. Picture here. (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/album.php?albumid=7001&pictureid=108006)

The mini looks cuter though. :p

ETA: I forgot I have an update for flexis. I'll try to take some pictures wearing some of the new ones.

And sorry my hand wasn't steady in the second pic. >.<

Thanks. I use the extra-smalls and the small for half-ups. The extra-small only gets the front layers, but still looks cute. The large for french twist and the extra large for cinnabuns. The mega I use to decorate a looped ponytail, but that can be done with the extra large too, only a little tighter.

ETA: The mini for end of braids or just a small section on the side.

Hahaha, Guiditta, I thought I was the only one who bought a Flexi "on spec" when my hair was way too short to wear it! It's this (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/album.php?albumid=5812&pictureid=108432) one - now my favorite Flexi cos it's so pretty - it seemed to take forrreeeevvveerrr before my hair was finally long enough to use it, but the time did finally come! :cheese:

Sorry for the double post, but I wanted to do this one separately to answer the questions above.

I confirmed with LillaRose that they do not offer the discounts that are offered on the Flexi8.com website.

There are plusses and minuses with both Flexi8 and LillaRose. Flexi8 plusses - (1) they will ship overseas, (2) they offer the discounts and/or occasional free shipping promotions. LillaRose plusses - they offer a larger variety (most items in all sizes), and there are some Flexi's available through LillaRose that aren't available through the regular Flexi8 site. Also (if you live in the US), with LillaRose you have the option of becoming a consultant yourself to get the discount! :D Any way you slice it, you get pretty, shiny things :crush:
