I'm not sure if it should be posted here or in my introduction since I'm a noob.

But here goes...

some old long hair pics summer 2003

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3153/2731780045_774b5c767a.jpg?v=0 http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3014/3093811821_d6f785bebe.jpg?v=0

salon style "trim" fall 2003 (they just love hacking off long hair don't they?)

http://a988.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/42/l_7f94182d00e89b6dbddd90cbcf0755eb.jpg

winter 2004 the day after I got about 3 inches cut off

http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/25/l_c0ca76bde4eef681aa94b6f05dd25f6d.jpg

I kept it about this length until the unquestionable happened

http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/100/l_7c5d175d75585648d1f99ac916e158ab.jpg

my hair fell off in chunks from trying a very supposed "mild" relaxer

http://a890.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/19/l_199070fc689938176c593b8022ff39b9.jpg

the salon tried to save as much as they could, chopped it up to my shoulders and dyed it black to make it look thicker
this was the day after spring 2006

http://a649.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/4/l_df4feeae715ca361b304c4c65180a360.jpg

it was completely burned so I took it back to the salon and had it cut even shorter

http://a424.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/4/m_1386d1267b02a6e3583c1be7d63e41ff.jpg

winter 2006

it grew a little but it was crazy uneven and I hated it, however I vowed to grow it out with only minimal trims that I would do myself to keep the length going since I know salons just love chopping everything off

by june 2007 it was shoulder length again if I straightened it

http://a881.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/92/l_5f48270a851fe0bc8484842a474c77a8.jpg

this was it curly

http://a373.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/40/l_69d32b3a855511877fd5d7929e62a744.jpg

winter 2007 it was past shoulder length but very uneven

http://a664.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/21/l_30c5bb2ef3164fdc416b2620ab26f1df.jpg

spring 2008

http://a765.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/69/l_f6d3ee73c5596797a7153775d3ca0b1c.jpg

with minimal trims, I got it looking satisfactory again

this was last month

http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/19/l_ef930675ce6948a695afdcd53fc8ab7c.jpg

http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/8/l_09ea7bb164794183acbc2fcacf29e5e9.jpg

and today

http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/26/l_547d4221fcb043ad856cbf6601d9c630.jpg

http://i708.photobucket.com/albums/ww87/talecon/shoulderblade.jpg?t=1230521248

I just trimmed it last month but it looks like the ends need a little trimming again. I think my hair went through a growth spurt since last month but I don't do blunt cuts because my hair is normally curly.

anyway, thats where I'm at now and my hair goal is for my hair to fall right below my butt. I don't know how else to describe it

Wow! That's quite a story. Welcome to the boards. To be honest with you, you have such a gorgeous face that you can carry off any length or style. Have you thought about just wearing your hair naturally curly and growing out the relaxer?

Hi there and welcome! You do have a beautiful face and hair... I think it's great progress you've shown. I understand why you want it straight as I always want mine straight too. However, I'm trying to lay off heat styling as my hair is dry with lots of splits. Perhaps those relaxers are very hard on your hair and keeping it from growing to it's full potential? I'm sure you will learn a lot here from people who've been here longer than I have. There is one straightening/relaxing method by a girl named Heidi that I tried recently. She calls it her "crown wrap" and if you search it you'll find the post on this board.

Keep on growin'!

the relaxer never took. I just straighten it with a straightening iron everyonce in a while. like once every two weeks or so. my hair is normally very curly but since I've been pregnant its been some parts curly, some parts wavy, and some parts straight. its weird. I'd have to wait until the baby is born to see what kind of hair I end up with

Oh man, I've never had clumps of hair fall out from chemical treatments, but if I did, I'd be really peeved...what was the salon thinking dyeing your hair after having it get so damaged from the relaxer?? That's the last thing it needed at that point. *sigh*...Well, anyway, welcome to the LHC!!

Oh, BTW, your current hair color is pretty awesome...it looks kinda purpley or maybe fuchsia in those last few pictures. How did you get that color?

talecon
December 28th, 2008, 10:09 PM
the second set before last is SPLAT lusty lavender and the last set is Manic Panic UltraViolet. I like to think I can't help it, I love dyeing my hair :P

Oh I love dyeing my hair too, haha. I've dyed it red since I was 14 and my mom first allowed me to use a red semi-perm since I was getting grey hairs all over. Eventually I switched to henna to color my hair red, but yeah, I can't imagine my hair going back to its original color. My natural mousy brown is just so...blah. I've always wanted to dye my hair some sort of crazy color like purple or blue, but I don't think it'd take very well on my hair, and I don't wanna bleach my hair (been there, done that, never doing it again). Your hair seems to have picked up the color really well though.

yeah my hair loves to be different colors too :)
I think the purple is the best color I've done yet. I've been getting a lot of compliments on it lately

That's quite a journey!

*yearns for her crazy colours of yore*

I have two bottles of purple dye (different shades) from specialfx.. hmmm maybe if I finish the one month challenge successfully I'll do a little purple 'under' my fringe..

you're an evil evil evil enabler! ;D

Are the first pics your natural curl? It's really great. Does the dye change your curl pattern?

talecon
December 29th, 2008, 08:14 PM
yes those are my natural curls. and I posted a pic of shorter hair with natural curls too. I've been getting my hair dyed since I was about 8 years old. It never changes my curl pattern. but this pregnancy sure has killed them.

here's a picture of my "curls" now

only the bangs are intentionally straightened

http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/54/l_afaadb15299c42678b3d4ad2afeeee04.jpg

and this was the picture I noticed my hair wasn't even trying to curl anymore

http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/8/l_4a4b63a269bf46abb02cdf7c687e7f3a.jpg

I sure do hope my curls bounce back after the baby is born. I miss them *tear* :(
but I've heard of women who never get their curl back and some that get their curl back years later. My mother has curly hair as well (though thicker than mines) and she's had 5 kids. she told me her curls bounced back right after giving birth so there's hope for me yet.

but now you see my problem. I don't know what to do with my hair while its rebelling in all different directions. putting it up in a ponytail doesn't even look good. and my hair is so thin when I put it in a bun it looks like a pathetic little ball.

That polaroid shot where your hair fell out is one of the saddest things I've ever seen.

You certainly look good in a variety of styles, even the short one was very flattering!

December 29th, 2008, 08:25 PM
thnx. I'm glad my hair has finally grown back but it is way thinner than it used to be. I was laughing so much so I wouldn't cry when my hair fell out. luckily since no one was around I decided to take a few snapshots to capture the moment lol

You are very cute.... :)

Have you tried those twist type styles wraped around your head... or starting up by your temples on each side and meeting the back...fold the pony tails in on the opposite sides under the twisted part to make an invisible seam? I like using little clips.
Welcome!

Hi and welcome!

Seems like your hair has been through a lot, I'm glad it recovered so well.
I had a bad salon experience 3 years ago...I did not loose quite as much hair though.

Your goal is called "classic length"..just below the butt right?

Cute rat btw. mine used to do the same thing and if I would not open my mouth try to push it open ^^.

Happy growing!

sillyca: I'm going to try and do a hair wrap if I know what you mean correctly as soon as I wash my hair later tonight :)

emichiee: yeah I just learned yesterday that my below the butt goal is called classic length :)
my rats (I have 4 of em now) used to always lick my lips with their little tongues. I call them their kisses ;)

vindo
December 29th, 2008, 08:47 PM
Yup thats what I called it too..the most I had was 8 rats at once. They all had their own way to "give kisses", one always wanted to climb into my mouth :p

Umh..about your curl pattern, there is many things that could keep it from coming out other than the pregnancy.
Things like straightening or others types of heat styling, even if it is seldom can melt some of the keratin, forcing the hair to align in a different pattern.

Also more moisture, less harsh detergents, less combing could be of help..(in case youre not doing all that already of course)

Well, I'm sure you will learn a lot here!

talecon
December 29th, 2008, 09:04 PM
yeah I've been basically trying everything but there's not much more I can do so I'm just doing a lot of conditioning treatments to keep my hair as healthy as possible. If my hair insists on staying like that after birth I'm going to have a hard time styling it and I'm not the type to straighten my hair everyday

And you do have a pretty face, and will look just stunning in any lenght or style.

Thank you for your story.

Wow, I'm glad you made it out of that ordeal and are well on your way to recovery, dump the heat, you have absolutely beautiful curls!!! And I mean drop-dead gorgeous curls:agape: Embrace them, I know I would though I myself have naturally very straight hair:o that is one reason why I don't use heat to be honest, but the major reason is that HEAT KILLS HAIR, I know, I know it's dead already but you get my point :D i.e. splits and damage galore

talecon
December 30th, 2008, 02:30 PM
my hair isn't as curly as it used to be because of my pregnancy. it looks horrible natural now. I only straighten my hair about once every two weeks though so hopefully its not damaging my hair too much

Wow, you and your hair have been through it. I love the color. I am a recovering dye addict myself. Henna Head now. But I can't think of a color that my hair hasn't been, on purpose, or by accident, lol.

I haven't read all the answers yet but I love your hair in it's natural state. You are very beautiful and look good both ways. I still think the curls are prettier than relaxed. You are very lucky your hair survived all of that.

I know it's your hair but it would be better for your hair if you didn't straighten it. It's your choice of course!!! I'm glad you got the length back and wish you the best for your hair no matter how you wear it.

OK I see you said your pregnancy killed your curls. I hope they come back for you. I guess you have to do what you can for now to look nice. When is your baby due? Congratulations!!!
