View Full Version : Photos of Lush henna on hair

I found these photos from over a year ago - my last henna application before just growing it out and attempting to lighten it... all failed. But - looking back at these pictures.. I think the only think that made me not want them was that weird obsession I had for a while of trying to get my hair closer to blonde...

Here's my hair with a mix of Lush Caca Noir and Lush Caca Brun that was done over straight henna:
http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=1971&pictureid=28028

And here's my hair after I colorfixed it and the henna reappeared - this was 2-3 days after the colorfix... It stripped out the indigo and left just the henna..
http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=1971&pictureid=28029

Looking at these, I think both colors worked with me... Kinda wishing I hadn't decided to "get rid" of the henna by any means possible... ie, scissor happiness...
And - these are the better colors I've had.. I think the Lush henna's are a prettier color for my skin... could be that I had the mental image of the more vibrant BAQ hennas in my head... but I think it was just the whole "I want to go to my natural hair color so I can tweak it to be lighter and closer to blonde" obsession that got me started on the kick...

So - looking at both og these pictures.. I'm leaning more heavily on going back to henna, using Lush....

And - for anyone curious about how Lush hennas can look, here's a thread started with a couple photos for evidence.. and hopefully the other Lush henna users will pipe up and post their Lush henna pictures here too....

edit: I actually kind of think my skin tone is a bit like a chameleon... without any henna, my tone looks one way... with henna, it pulls out more of one color tone than another... not sure if that's the right description color wise... but my skin tone seems to look a tad different and matches whatever of the colors I use to an extent... maybe I'm completely wrong though.. but it just seems that way.. that the tone alters very subtly and somehow makes both those colors and the current one I have, match well with the skin....

Am I missing something here, or is today my stupid day? ha ha
I don't see the pictures or link referred to in this post. Is it just a "me thing"?

And I use Lush henna as well, so I'll post pics. Soon. Going to henna it before NYE, so I won't be showing my greys.

Oh, please do, I was considering to use Lush henna next time i dye.
And how much of it do you use?
My hair is waist lenght, VERY VERY thick, so I don't know how much to purchase.

Thanks Mellie!!! Considering how lovely and natural your own henna mix comes out, that means a lot!

As for how much used - When my hair was that length, I used 2-3 squares total, from a block of 6... I think 3 (2 Brun and 1 Noir), but I had some left over, so I froze it.... I think the frozen batch is still at my mom's house in Florida!
I mixed up just one square about a month ago, and I think it would be enough to cover all my hair right now (mixed it up to see how much it would make, and to do a sample streak on each side of my face... both streaks seem to have pretty much faded to almost non existence now... can still see a little bit of them though. I only left them in for about an hour and a half though - and it was the first application... I remember it took 2-3 applications before the henna decided to really move in and stay, back when I first started henna'ing.

Here's a pic of my hair with Lush Caca Rouge in it (applied over BAQ Yemeni henna):

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff117/Radish_photo/IMG_1046.jpg

I did my roots a couple of days ago, so focus your eyes on the top of my head and you'll see how Caca Rouge looks like on virgin hair. Today I'm gonna do my ends, because I want them to be less noticeable and oh my, they really do stand out at the moment. I really like the color of my ends (bright orange, yay :) ), but as the rest of my hair seems to get more darker no matter what I do I'll just try to even out that huge difference between my ends and the rest.
I don't want to do a full head henna, 'cause the middle part of my hair is already dark enough / too dark (trying hard not to make it darker).

I'll post an after pic when I'm done hennaing, fingers crossed that I get the result I'm after.

Still looks wonderful - even with the division of color!

Yes, I'll be waiting to see what you get using the Rouge on those brighter ends. Remember, they'll still be bright at first, until oxidisation has taken place...

Surprisingly (not) hennaing only my ends with Caca Rouge made my ends.. well.. more red :D . So the difference in color is still huge and still very obvious (It seems that today's hennaing made the difference even bigger than it was before..), but at least I like both colors. In other words the situation could be a lot worse. Perhaps if I hennaed my ends with Caca Brun or Caca Marron I could get closer to the single-tone-hair color I'm after.
But as you said Celebrian, I'll see the final results in a couple of days, after the henna has fully oxidized.
All in all, this gives new (or at least unconventional) meaning to two tone hair color :D

RedFrizz, your hair came out really cool! Very bright and happy :)

I just bought a bar of Caca Rouge, and it'll be my first time with Lush hennas. I had done Rainbow burgandy back in November, but it faded rather quickly. I did a semi permanent a few weeks ago, so I'm going to wait a month or so to let it completely fade from my hair. How long do you find the Rouge lasts on your hair? I was thinking I'd do a whole head application (depending on the color, I could end up just doing touch-ups) every 2-3 months.

I think it looks even more wonderful! I also think that it looks better somehow now - more of two different versions of the same thing ()... anyway, oxidation. Give it a week before you do anything more. Marron is probably the one to use on your lighter ends if you feel that you want to remain red but deepen those ends.

I like the lighter ends. It makes the hair look natural, instead of dyed red. I hope my hair stays lighter at the ends when I (eventually) get up the courage to henna.

You look like a million bucks. Don't change! Just do roots from now on...

i liked the way your hair looked in the first picture myself
seems to me the darker color complimented your skin - but that could just be me
i seem to like dark colored hair

then i just saw caitybears color and love it too! i think i just like very saturated colors of any kind - maybe ;)

i really want to henna my hair - but i have quite a bit of silver hair and i know i would be obsessing on the new growth....

Here's mine. I used Caca Rouge over a blue-black dye about two times in one month, and it eventually oxidized to this color. This picture was taken like, last June, but I don't understand why the ends look black. They weren't...

There we go. This is the following month, after it had faded a bit. I only left the henna in for about an hour or two.

Wow, Ranchero, beautiful color and really healthy looking too. I'm surprised how well your henna took over such a dark hair color! I would never guess it was black-ish underneath.

I just did my second application of Lush Rouge. The first application didn't seem to stay on my hair, but I think because I didn't rinse properly, it took 2 or 3 strong shampooings to get the cocoa butter out. After I shampooed immediately this time, my color took and my hair feels a lot better. And the pictures:

Girls, I have never used henna before and I was reading about it and I'm interested in using it, but I'm afraid to not get an undesired colour and then to have to cut my hair to take it out.

I've read about Lush henna and I understood it's one of the best henna? I don't know, because i never used any brand. I want to ask the ones that use it, I want the rouge one, but when I look at the shades you girls got they are not what I want, and I don't know if I can get the shade I want with henna :(

I don't want any copper light rd, I want a darkish red, deep red, close to the shade I use now with a chemical dye). I know that with henna is impossible to get this shade, but at least closer to it? I mean darker, much darker than the photos posted above, more dark red not orangeish.

Here it's me with my actual colour that I obtain with a chemical dye.I adore this shade but I thought that I maybe could have at least a similar one with a natural method?:(

Sharon, I would bet you could get something close to that with multiple full-head applications of Yemeni body art quality henna. What's your starting color?

Also, you could take a test section (cut it or use a hairball from your brush) and apply henna to it. Rinse off, let it dry, let it oxidise a few days. A week later, apply henna to it again. Keep applying til you've got your perfect colour.

Check out the mixes on the hennaforhair mix page. There's a lot of different colours on there too.

i would be surprised if you can get that shade with Lush henna. it's not as strong a stain as Body art quality (BAQ). Lush is a nice henna, it's a block made of henna, cocoa butter, essential oil,and in some cases indigo or coffee - it's a 'compound' henna, not just henna on its own. Henna, pure henna, is a plant, ground up, and is usually greenish powder with a wet-hay scent. BAQ hennas can be labelled as any of the following:

Moroccan henna
Yemen or Yemeni henna
Jamilla henna
Indian henna
Rajasthani henna

They are all the same lawsonia inermia plant just from different regions. Nightshade and Lexie did some experiments on pure white mohair to see different shades, there were not a lot of differences though. People tend to report different results too; I know people who have got burgundy from Rajasthani henna yet it always went orange-copper on my hair.

I get my henna from www.mehandi.com (who also sells Yemeni) but you could also check out hennaboy if you are in the Uk or hennasooq.com if you are in US/Canada. :)

The henna thread is a huge thing, but it's full of helpful info.

Unfortunately I live in Romania and here I don't know what brands of henna I could find. It's problematic because I don't own a credit card to can buy it from outside. :(

Besides yemeni henna, the ones that you posted could give some similar shade with the one I want?

Loviatar
October 21st, 2009, 01:11 PM
Oh gosh. Um, what I would do is maybe start a new thread, entitled something like 'Romanian looking for henna buying advice' as your questions might get buried here (and we're hijacking someone else's thread)

I'm not the best person to ask as I want to avoid any burgundy or wine tones in my henna color. There are a few threads recently called 'how to get burgundy not orange' or similar, though.

Nightshade and Hennasooq are pretty good founts of henna information.

Repeated applications will likely take you to a more wine-based color.

I use LUSH caca marron (my avatar is the color one day after henna, color is still oxidizing), have been using it for several years now and I like the predictable result, even if the color result is less intense than BAQ henna. I'm a two-tone as well, from several years of box dye. when I can see the "tide water mark" thanks to my box-dyed hair having been lightened, then I know it's time to re-do my henna.

Thanks for sharing your pics. I'm new here and wanted to colour my hair with henna. I did this a number of years ago with BAQ henna. Was nice but I really wanted a little less intence orange/red. Yesterday I applied Lush Caca Brun for a little over 2 hours as my instructions recommended. I was a little dissapointed. My colour changed ever SO slightly. I was hoping for a rich chestnut colour. I did however love the effect it has had on my hair and I LOVE the clove oil smell of it. My favourite spice. :) I can see now that I may need several applications and I'll leave it longer next time.

Oh my starting colour is chemical dyed light brown. My natural colour is errr, dunno. Kinda salt and pepper grey with lots of pepper, not much salt. :(

Yeah, 4 days later and it looks a bit better but I will definately leave it on for at least 6 hours next time. I was a bit worried about how much red it would take up but it's not red at all. I'm thinking I may buy some Caca Rouge to mix with the Brun or maybe just buy some Marron and use that straight. I like how the Lush henna is a little more subtle but I did expect it to change a lot more than it did.

No harm, will just have another go with longer time. ;)

I decided to try a lush henna gloss.

My last henna faded really fast from red to orange, which is to be expected I guess  NB: its not lush henna here.
http://i937.photobucket.com/albums/ad213/kathie21/Henna%20Oct%202010/3rdapplication12hrs.jpg http://i937.photobucket.com/albums/ad213/kathie21/Henna%20Oct%202010/P1030636.jpg
So I tried a Brun gloss. I used 1 1/2 squares. I diluted the melted henna with some conditioner... about 4 table spoons, and left it on for 50min.
http://i937.photobucket.com/albums/ad213/kathie21/Henna%20Oct%202010/P1030651.jpg
The color is great... it’s a rich brown and the orange tones are gone. Overall it goes better with my skin tone. Naturally I have very ash colored hair and suit the cooler colors.
I know to expect a lot of fading again. But I’m happy to do another treatment in a month or two. Overall I’m really happy.

I just henna glossed two days ago with Lush. This is one square brun and two squares marron. I also mixed in a bunch of suave conditioner and left it in for about 1 hour.

.... Well, the lighting is a bit dark..... my hair is very close to my avatar, only a bit more red.
