I decided to start a thread on this because sometimes it's hard to find good, simple styles for this awkward in between length of hair! Especially good ones for work. I have to restrain my hair really well or I'll get into trouble because I work in a kitchen, and with my hair it pretty much HAS to be braided back in some way due to it's volume and frizz. Here's one style that works really well for me:

Start off with your hair down and parted as you like down the middle.

Section off your hair down from your part to the back of your ear. Repeat on the other side.

Take a hair elastic or scrunchie and tie back the rest of your hair for ease of styling.

Comb or brush your hair back towards your head and up.

Make a braid, whatever you like, but three strand is obviously the quickest and easiest. Repeat on the other side.

Pull your braids forward, then comb or brush the remaining hair into the position you want your bun to be in. Then add your braids, and tie into a ponytail.

Twist the ponytail into a bun.

Add your hair toys of choice.

Top view! When I'm at work I have to wear a hat, so my bun is usually at the base of my neck. This works great to keep all your hair out of your face, yet you only have to do the two braids so it's really quick to do!

A variation is to keep the middle part, part the hair down the middle in the back and separate. Tie one side off for ease of styling with an elastic or scrunchie, and then comb each side up into a bun. I did this one today, and it's one of my favorites for when I get out of work since I can just restyle it quickly. Sorry for The Frizz, it's been a long day XD

I like the idea of braids going into the bun, might have to try that to liven up my usual pain buns :)

Oh gosh, I am so lazy. I usually just do french twists or french braids, and double dutch braids as low down as they will go. I will have to try some of these as they look friendly to my hair's volume.

Those are very good ideas, especially if you have fringe or layers growing out as they can be incorporated into the braid and held into place more securely. Thanks for sharing.

Those are both really cute!

When my hair was your length, I spent a lot of time in piggy buns, snoods (with a few )pins to anchor them) and low messy buns with those stretchy comb headbands to hold the front back.

Not sure that helps at all, but there you go.

When my hair was this length, I liked to do a half up into a ponytail, then tuck it up and through (like a topsy tail but just push it through with my fingers. Then the short layers could cascade up and out, and I still had the length down.

I also liked pulling back just my long bangs (or where bangs would be when they grew out) and securing with a bobby pin before pulling all my hair into a ponytail holder.

I also like wearing a headband with a half-up. When I put a headband in with my hair in a full pony, it always rolled up. (And looked stupid)

As my hair is thick--I could put it up in two buns long before I could do it in one. Same went for braids.

Half-ups were my friend when my hair was shorter than bsl. They made the hair look long, but it also had some style. I have strong hair, but the sides break more easily, so I liked having them protected.

Enjoy this length--sometimes I miss it (waist now). Half ups look kinda weird now, and ponytails get all straggly looking. Yet I'm still not quite long enough for figure eights and some other updos I want to do:(

I like the second updo a lot since I wear the double -'dos most of the time! Very nice! :) I like the idea of this updo with scrunchies. Mostly I wear them with hairsticks.

I like braids and I like buns and I never thought of putting two and two together. I will try this out when I feel well enough to leave the house (but I will do a variation with two french braids instead of english braids).
