I just received my hair sticks from etsy (:happydance:) they are both wooden hair sticks and although they don't have any nicks, I feel they are too rough for my hair.

They have been beautifully painted, so I can't sand them. Is there anything else I can do to make them super smooth?

Thanks ^.^

Maybe you could sand them very lightly with a very fine sand paper. You could add a few coats of clear varnish, and sand lightly between coats.

I use scotch brite to smoothen final surface.
The surface gets really smooth, but not shiny though.

There are also very very fine sand paper for using with water on furniture surfices, maybe you can try such sand paper.
This can also take the shininess away though.

Polish stuff for furnich or cars, can contain silocone, wax and others that you maybe do not want in your hair.

Personally, I would also make mention of this to the seller and see what he/she recommends. (I personally don't think customers should have to worry with such things, so sellers really need to be made aware of problems like this.)
