okay, i posted something similar on the old LHC, so here we go again!

Im back to 22" after cutting in a blunt hem and equaling up my longest layer, just one layer in the back to go! I will probably even things up again, once it has caught up.

BSL for me is 27" (bottom of strap) so come on, post here with all your frustrations and milestones.

We will all get there!

Mod Note:
Mid Back Length (MBL)=Bra Strap Length (BSL) and is used as a more inclusive term. If you do not wear a bra, you can locate MBL by wrapping a towel, measuring tape, etc around your torso just below your pectoral muscles/above your diaphragm (which ever is easier to identify), this will show you where MBL lands on your back.

Hmm .. I measure BSL as the bottom of my shoulder blades, or 23", because I'm impatient and if I measured to the bottom of my strap I'd probably get fed up at not reaching a goal in so long that I'd cut. My longest layer is now at 23", so I'm at 'can-I-call-this-BSL', but I won't really feel like I'm at BSL until it's at least an inch or two longer.

BSL is about 27 inches for me. Since I'm starting over again I've decided not to measure because it can be discouraging if I hit a no grow month. I'm going by milestones. BSL is my main goal.

yay! there are a few of us going for BSL or MBL in shadow walkers case! (the race is still on...biotin at the ready shadow..mwahaha!)

I'm not trimming until August 8th the moroccan calender thingy me bob! says its a good day for growth, okay maybe im slightly mad for wanting to try it but hey what have i got to lose?

I think we should all post a monthly picture up too, for comparing how much we have grown, what do you all think?.

My camera charger is broke ( darn dog thought she would eat it..ggggrrrr) so ive had to order another which will hopefully be here Monday.

Okay im off to bed now so happy growing everybody xxx

I am 1.5" above BSL, and just patiently waiting till I get there. No special things that I am doing save for my normal routine.; take my vitamins, eat my two bananas a day, and pamper the hair.

My hair is around APL and headed for BSL. I think I'll reach it by the end of ths year.

My hair is between APL and BSL, as it's been for years. Last measurement (Feb?) was 25.5; "Full" BSL - where it covers, not just touches, the strap - will be 27". But those longest ends are still very wispy and see through - hard to count.

I'd like to trim again but I think I am going to measure once more to see how much growth I've got per month; I'm not very good at being consistent with such "boring" tasks ;) but I know it is for the best so I am trying to discipline myself.

For me, when my hemline is more even and at 27" (rather than just the "point" of the "deep V" hitting 27) I will be at BSL. It is a long way to go, it seems, but my hair is still longer than it has ever been!

I'm still teaching myself to wear it up more (and like it!) and focusing on moisturizing but also washing more so that it looks good down and I can enjoy it.

Excellent growth!!!

I am at 21". BSL is 24" for me, but I measure the top of the bra strap. I think I am about near APL, but it is a length I won't really celebrate. You are WAY past APL!!!

I get so impatient with the growth of my hair! Seems it really slows down in the winter months.

This picture was taken in February so it is fairly current, hair is just a tad bit longer now. I hope to hit BSL soon, maybe by June to the top of my bra strap.
Glad to find so many others at my same place in the journey.

Yeehoo, my first post on the new forum - I was worried that TLHC was gone forever!

I'm currently nearing APL and my next goal after that is BSL, which is about 26-27 IN for me. I'm currently at 57 cm (roughly 22.5 IN).

I'm done breast feeding my son, so I'm going to start taking UltraNoursiHair and biotin again (I didn't take any vitamins/supplements during my pregnancy or during BFing, I was too paranoid). My hair seems to be growing at a decent rate, a good 1/4 IN per month, but my post partum shed has definitely begun, I hope it won't affect my overall growth too much.

Count me in! I'm at 27" wet right now, which is at my last rib. but, dry, I am at 22" which puts me between APL and BSL, depending on how much shrinkage I have that day.

I had a badly needed cut in January. Lost length, but the hair looks better and the curl is better too.

March 11th, 2008, 10:20 AM
I'm also between APL and BSL. I think I'm at about 24.5" right now, and BSL is going to be somewhere around 27" for me.

BSL is my next mini-goal, with waist following hopefully not too far behind, and hip following that. Once I hit hip, I'm hoping I'll be able to consider my hair long (there isn't such a thing for me as long ENOUGH). I still think of it as short right now.

My ultimate goal is terminal. I don't know exactly where that is, but I do know it's someplace below knee because I've been at knee before!

This thread needs to wake up again! *bump* :)

I just reached APL (at least some parts of my hair), and I'd like to join in on this little adventure. I estimate to reach BSL by the and of the year if I don't have to trim too much. I think it will be 25" on me.

My ultimate goal is tailbone, but BSL is an important milestone on the way there!

Erm, pardon, but APL isn't on the list of abreviations, so where exactly is APL? Also, I'm just past the shoulders myself and hope to be BSL within 6 months. My hair grows pretty fast, so I'm sure the 5 inches I need to top of bra will be here in no time, ( I hope!).

APL means Arm Pit Length. :) I am sure you are welcome in this thread even if you are not there just yet. There is also a thread named "APL this year!" if you wanna consider APL as a goal on the way before aiming for BSL. http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=395

I am still just at APL. Right now I am very unhappy with my ends but I will try not to trim as long as possible. I bought a leave in conditioner today that actually made my hair feel a bit better. I need to gain some length now!!

And maybe, with the sun or so, my hair will grow a bit faster and I will be at BSL just in a month, let's hope so!

ETA: checked again, hmm, different bra, so different bra length:rolleyes: I'll have to be almost 27 inches before I'm really at BSL.

And I hate this length, because, it isn't long, it isn't short, you're just somewhere in between

When I joined LHC I measured BSL to be at 24" and I'm now at 24.5", so I've reached by that bra (a 34A). I then got fitted for new bras a few months later (which are all 32C, I don't know how I decreased in band size when I'd gained weight, but whatever) and it's now 25" to the top of my bra strap (or 26" to the bottom), but that's if I sit up straight, whereas I tend to slouch, making the difference longer. I kind of consider myself to be at an 'upper-BSL' measurement, though, as I'm past the bottoms of my shoulder-blades.

I guess I'm about 2 inches away from BSL. (27 inches) Except that I've got layers that I'm growing out from a bob, so just the bottom layer is at sort of 25. I don't really know what to do, I need a trim, but don't want to lose length, but I also want to be rid of the layers. Do I wait to trim at 27 inches, or do it now? It's really no fun either way, however if I do it now I'll not have to lose as much length when I do get there....difficult. Maybe I'll just do a mini trim in a couple weeks or so.

I am in a similar position and settled on a small trim this month. I plan to maintain here until I feel okay about moving on to BSL. I have several inches of old layering left, but hopefully my hemline will start looking better without having to take all of those off quite yet.

I'm doing a mini-trim in June because I have a similar problem. By September I should be properly at/past BSL (I grow an inch a month in the summer) so I'll probably maintain there until I get rid of my layers.

I'm at 22.5 which is just a little past APL. Top of bra is 25" and bottom is 27". Ultimately I'd like to maintain at 27. I've always found this length annoying because it's not long but it's not short either.

I just had a 0.2" trim. :) Doesn't sound like a lot, but I can really see a difference in my ends. I hope I can hold out for a while now before trimming again.

Grow hair, grow! I really want hair that feels LONG. As many others have just said this length is very "in between". Of course that's better than short, but still a bit bored with my hair right now. I'll just have to stick it out.

Hello everyone! This past weekend, I was wearing a different bra and my hair reached BSL when stretched. I may stop my trimming, just for the thrill of reaching BSL as soon as possible. It would be nice to maintain at BSL rather than some arbitrary place. So all that to say, I think I'm ready to keep moving on to BSL.

Hi jojo! I just posted right below you. I was hovering around 23 and 24 inches on April 30th. I did a very light trim, so I'm hoping to be at a solid 24 inches soon. I, too, seem to need about 1-3 more inches for BSL. I can't wait for it! I am able to do some neat updos at this length and at BSL I think they will be even better. I have been pulling my hair over the front of my shoulders and it stays like that, which is cool. BSL will be a really big milestone for me.

I'm doing okay. Just started the journey towards BSL (from APL that is) and would consider myself to be at APL right now. Right now my main focus is not to trim again for a while. Hoping for a growth spurt in the summer. :)

About the only thing that holds with any reliability is a cinnamon bun, but then I've got mad-thick hair (ok, so it's not overly thick, but the problems caused by its thickness are exacerbated by its fineness and layers).

I just obtained amish pins, two hairsticks, a fork, and a fork/comb/metal decorative thing so I will be experimenting a lot. I enjoy wearing it down at this length, but I often wear a ponytail or looped bun with a scrunchie. I do a lot of random things with sticks where I just loop some hair and make a shortened ponytail or variation on a twist, and cinnamon buns and variations on that. I love doing a pseudo-braided bun. I can also do a chinese bun, double braids, half-ups, a 5-strand braid, and a french braid but I do those less often.

Ooh, finally a club I can join!

My V was at mid-back a few months ago, but I cut off a ton of damage and now I'm at APL. I now have 3" of virgin, unconed hair which makes me happy but I have a lot of damage left, so still trimming for the next couple years. My next 1" trim is scheduled for August.. I hope to be almost back to BSL by then.

When I wear my hair up I either braid it or put it in a french twist/messy bun secured with a hairfork. For some reason I can't get a cinnabun to stay at the length, I used to wear them all the time before I cut my hair.

During the 3rd week of April I was at 22.5" which is maybe an inch or so (kind of hard to tell) past APL on me. I've not measured exactly what BSL is, but I think I have 2-3 more inches to go. I am excited to see others in the same hair "club" as me hehe! I have gotten my hair to this length a few times in the past and always cave and cut it short, so I am happy to have support to get through this phase. :) I am excited because I can do more updo's now, which keeps me motivated to enjoy the growing length.

Hey all! Count me in on this one. I am at 23.5" currently. The very tips of my longest hairs reach the very top of the strap for me so another 2 inches and I will count it officially BSL. I think I can get there by the end of July. I haven't had my hair that long since I was a kid - I get to the length I am right now and it never seems to pass the strap ;)
I wear it up alot now and LHC has really influenced the care I give to my hair - silicone free me. No professional trim since December, I have dusted once myself and S&D a couple times.
Glad to be on the journey with the rest of you - we can prop each other up and smack the scissors away together.......

Hey wait ... for me [she grabs her ticket to station Waist and starts running for the APL to BSL train] ...

BSL is about 25 inches for me. I've never been more thankful for having a short torso and longer legs in my life :) I have curly hair and layers so I am currently at BSL length if I pull my longest layer and at just past APL when it is curly which is about 21 inches. I want to keep my layers but I want the layers to be longer so it will be a long process for me to grow out my hair. I had my hair cut quite recently and lost at least an inch to two inches but it looks more healthy and has more volume as a result.

I've identified bsl as the point at which I usually fail growing my hair. I've done a lot of stupid things to my hair like getting a relaxer, getting my hair relaxed and dying my hair blonde which has led to a lot of breakage. I tried growing out my colour last year but my hair looked so limp. I find it looks fuller with hair colour. I have a half head of foils and put a semi-permanent colour in my hair. If I can get past this point, I know I can make it to the waist. It's like when I tried saving for a home deposit. The first $10k was the hardest.

I thought I would be at BSL in July, but realistically September will be more like it. I am 23" now, BSL if I pull it straight--but that doesn't really count...

BSL is my trouble spot too--lots of breakage that require trims, that ultimately take off too much. And chemo and radiation really screwed up my hair!

Someone predicted to me I would be BSL by July, I think she is going to be right though at the time I pronounced her pretty much nuts

Here is a picture taken on the same day as my last siggie picture, which.. by the way.. is up a month earlier than it should have been (should have been around 20 June) but I noticed so much growth that I had to see if it was real.

In this picture, taken May 11th, I am holding my finger up against the bottom of the bra strap. No pushing it up, this is where it is at and I have all the same bras.

I am going to get measured very soon, but if this is true (BSL is at 68cm for me) then I have had some INSANE growth going on this last period, because on the 5th of April I measured in at 63.5cm and this looks like 1.5cm or so above BSL now, that is 3cms in a month!

Girlcat,

Your hair reminds me so much of mine. I had a lot of do it yourself layers ie breakage and damage (not from chemo or raditation but just pure stupidity from bleaching my hair). At 23 inches, your hair is longer than mine. I think mine is 21 or 22 inches curly. It can be such a long journey for curly hairs who have spiral curls as mine can jump up 6 inches or more and your hair looks it springs up quite a lot as well.

I've been cutting the layers out of my hair and will continue to do so for a long time. I still want layers but longer layers. as they give my hair a lot of volume and personality. I don't want to sacrifice volume for length. I always get to a point where I have a lot of hair growth and I feel confident to let hairdressers take one or two inches off as I think the hair needs it but I need to break out of that habit. As I said, I've just had a hairdresser to cut off an inch or two off my hair but I do think my hair looks better from that haircut. My mother is going to maintain my hair from now on.

I've been rubbing a Jojoba Butter mixture on my ends which has a mixture of Jojoba oil, Shea butter, vegetable coconut and Sunflower oil to try and minimise breakage. I have noticed that I have less hair breakage. I always used to lose a lot of hair when I washed it and I thought that was natural but coming to these forums, I've realised that it can be minimised.

It will be interesting to see everyone's progress from APL to BSL. I'm confident we can all get there together :)

Hi all, my longest layers hit APL just recently...it's a supremely irritating length for me, actually the very one I was cringingly avoiding when I kept cutting my hair before. My hair is super thick, straight and fine, so at this length I can't braid it, it won't stay in clips and it goes *everywhere* if the conditioning is the slightest bit off. My shortest layer is also juuussst a tad too short to stay back if I pull my hair back at the nape, which is where I have to put it if I want to wear it up for any length of time -- the thickness means it weighs too much to go up any higher. PLUS, I've been having all kinds of conditioning problems lately, so basically my hair just looks like crap, mostly. I'm dealing -- soon I'll get my moisturizing problems worked out (eventually, on a long enough timeline, I have to find something that works, right?), and soon it'll be long enough to at least throw back in a ponytail at the nape

But today, I'm dealing with greasy hair though I just washed it this morning (ah yes, another conditioning mishap), and wishing like hell I could just cut it off or leave it at home and just wear a fancy hat instead! I'm looking forward to BSL because, though I might not be able to really put it up at that length yet (thickness again), I do suspect it'll behave a little better. Or, you know, it had better!

Haha, I wish I knew. My only guess is that it must be good genes, though I take in a ton of protein every day (like, around 50 grams or more), and I'm also very active since my job is all manual labor. Who knows.

I cut it all off and started over. It's pixie length still. My frustration at this point is that it occasionally looks really poofy, so I will probably be going in to get it texturized as it grows out. I will also trim the back to avoid the dreaded mullet.

I'm a strong believer in microtrims. There is no point in having long hair if the ends are straggly. I've developed this obsession for staring at the ends of people's hair. I've got to snap out of it :)

I too believe in microtrims. I had one quite recently. They make a huge difference in quality of the ends, but you don't have to lose a lot of length for that. I do them when I feel that I need to.

Yeah, no offense, but I would snap out of it if I were you. Many people here get upset by the idea that others are staring at their ends or mentally criticizing their choices. Frankly, some people do have long hair and like straggly ends, so saying that there is no point in having long hair if ends are straggly is just not true for some of us.

I used to do that too! But then I discovered this forum, and read about 'fairytale ends'. I was a die-hard blunt-or-nothing :D, but after seeing so much pretty hair in a taper from photos on here I have done a 180!! And if my chronically V-shaped hair got to waist length at the very tip, even, I'd be so proud.

I consider myself belonging on this thread, although my bra strap's a bit messed up: it's lower on the sides and rides up pretty badly in my middle back :(. So although I almost reach BSL, it's sorta 'bent upwards bsl' instead of an even straight across. Oh well, time flies when you're 41 so maybe my layer's will be true bsl before I know it. BSL on me is about 26". Waist will be about 31.5. (I'm tall with a really long neck )

Hi everyone :waving:

It turns out that BSL is only about 1.5 inches away for me!

Granted, this will be the very tips of my layered ends, but I have the sentiments of MsBubbles that it is still going to be a proud moment. I had planned to do another microtrim/dusting at BSL but I don't know whether I should do that at the top of strap (1 to 1.5 more inches) at mid-strap (2 more inches) or at the bottom of the strap (2.5 more inches)

On the other hand, I might not stop at all and just haul on to waist :D

Any thoughts?

My comment was taken out of context. I do enjoy looking at people's hairstyles and I've taken more of an interest in how people style their hair in terms of blunt cuts or v cuts etc but I never said that I make negative judgements about people. I hardly think I'm in any position to do that given the state of my hair lol. Actually, I've decided since visiting this forum that I'm going to keep the layers in as opposed to have a blunt cut as I think it works better for my hair.

I am not getting much length off :) She does microtrims, so 6-7mm is about all she takes. I do take a supplement (skin hair and nails, from Kruidvat), and I eat two bananas a day; someone said they were good for growth (something in them, can't remember what), and in any case they are yummy hehe.

That's good that you're only getting a microtrim. TWO bananas ... woah! I saw the thread about Monistat being used for hair growth. It's not available in Australia though. I have a friend who lives in the US and her brother is going over there soon but I don't know how he would explain that if his bag was searched by customs lol.

I feel like my hair is SO short. It's such an inbetween length for girls with curly hair. Although, my hair is long enough for me to lie back on it if I am sitting on a chair so it can't be that short. I really wish the hairdresser hadn't taken it upon himself to even out one of my layers. Never again.

It does take a lot of patience but when I look at your hair, it looks like if I pulled your longest layer that it would reach your top. It definitely looks longer than 22 inches if you pull it straight.

When pulled straight, it's about 25", nearly BSL. But I don't ever wear my hair straight so I only measure dry and curly.

FrannyG

Well, girlcat36, I'm looking at the same timeframe as you to reach BSL, and when I do, it will be the third trip from this length to BSL since I joined LHC. Last year I cut 6 inches of length off to remove some straggly pre-LHC hair and get a straight -across hemline. Last month I cut off 5 more inches of pre-LHC hair after colouring my hair back to blonde after my brunette experiment.

What I've learned with all this is that the time seems to go much more quickly than you expect, if you're not always thinking about how "short" your hair is. When you start feeling like a longhair at whatever length you are, the hair seems to grow more quickly, and you'll enjoy the ride more.

Just think! A year from now we'll be getting very near waistlength!

30isthenewblack

Ok, that makes more sense then. I don't wear my hair straight either but I do measure it straight as my curls bounce up differently, I feel it is more accurate. My curls can bounce up 6 inches on a good day :D

Our hair is the same length then. My hair is about 22 inches curly and 25 inches when straight. To be honest, I'd be thrilled if I hit bsl curly at the end of the year with my ends looking thick and healthy. I want to break out of the cycle of reaching this milestone and then having to trim it back as the ends are damaged. I think I've also been sabotaged by hairdressers as well which is why my mother is only cutting my hair from now on.

I need 3 inches to reach bsl when curly so if hair grows half an inch on an average every month and my hair grows 3 inches, then we are both on track for bsl at the end of the year.

I've only started measuring a few weeks ago but I'm not sure if my hair even grows half an inch every month. I'm taking supplements so it will be interesting to see if that makes a difference. My hair is chemically coloured as well but I have been moisturising the ends every night and my hair has never been healthier. I just need to even up the layers as it grows longer so it looks like it has more volume.

I did get a trim a few weeks ago and it made me sad but at least I go forward with healthier hair.

Just think! A year from now we'll be getting very near waistlength!
ooooooooooohhhhhhhh what an exciting thought, suppose we will have to start a new club them. I can't wait i feel like a kid waiting for santa to come, quite sad for a 39 year old!!

You are not sad at all. You are never too young or too old to have beautiful hair at any length or texture. Never lose sight of your dreams at any age.

It's nice to know that we are all moving forwards with out hair. No more sabotaging by hairdressers for me. That was my main problem along with the damage. I got comfortable and let them cut off my growth thinking it was needed. BSL at the end of the year toot toot :D

I am going woohoo here.

Just had my hair measured today, and went from 63.5 to 65.5 cm in 1 month and 20 days.

I have adjusted the length under the avatar already. 2.5cm to BSL!

You girls are funny!! At least this is a healthy obsession.
Franny--you have such patience! And your hair always looks beautiful no matter what langth it is.
I will probably have to maintain my hair at BSL for a while because the ends are super thin, I like fairytale ends but mine are a little too thin right now.
Oh, and my growing out underlayer is neck length now, that is very exciting!

Girlcat36, awesome update! :flowers: Your progress has really been wonderful. I understand your desire to stay for a while to thicken up your ends by trimming. It's probably a much better idea for you than my way of cutting off a few inches at a time to get the hemline I want! :silly:

My hair is getting longer, but it's breaking like crazy. :( If all my ends were awful, I would cut back to healthier hair, but it's only bad in spots. I want my hair to get to waist so badly, can't stand to cut off the healthier ends.

My ends are brushing the top of my bra band today, but that's not a usual occurance.. stretched my hair is at mid back, but dry it's still closer to APL, most days. Like some others here I only count where it hits when it's curly/wavy.

I consider myself belonging on this thread, although my bra strap's a bit messed up: it's lower on the sides and rides up pretty badly in my middle back . So although I almost reach BSL, it's sorta 'bent upwards bsl' instead of an even straight across.

OT, but it sounds like you are wearing the wrong size bra. Try a smaller band size and larger cup!

Thanks for the help! I think you might be right about the smaller band, and the front just ain't cutting it, either. I'm wearing a sports bra today, so that's a whole bunch of material to have to grow my hair past :).

I always make sure I take a new length shot on the first of the month. While you can never see a real difference in just one month, it's great to have a year later to compare your growth from June to June, for example. I think monthly photos are a great tool, not right away, but down the line.

I think we're all a bit impatient from time to time, Lilalong! :)

I'm definitely going to measure each month. I only started this whole exercise on May 11 so I'm only halfway through the first month of measuring growth but I'm really interested to see how much my hair actually does grow per month. I should take pictures every month. I'll have to borrow a digital camera as my friend who took the photo has gone overseas. After looking at so many progress pictures especially with girls who have curly hair, I know I have to be patient when growing my hair. If I reach bsl curly by the end of the year which will be 28.5 inches (I'm already at bsl now with straight hair) with healthier hair and ends, I will be happy :D

I measure on the first of the month and take a length picture. DBF does these for me, so I truly only get one measurement per month and he will only do it max one day early, if that! I am really excited to see about my growth this month. I did a microtrim myself last month. Before the trim, my hair was 23.75 to 24.25.

That's nice of your mom! I try to be patient with DBF but I know my hair is difficult to measure because of my layered ends. He will not measure 3x like your mom though. I'm jealous :) Keeping track of the growth each month has worked well for me because I have gotten to see the overall growth. My growth does vary. Sometimes I just get a 1/4 inch, but let's say that 1/4 inch takes me up to a whole number, then I'm still happy. I got one inch of growth in December. That was the only time in a year, though. I do think it has a lot to do with the way your hair lays and stuff, too. I didn't trim for over a year, so that made calculating growth easier since I didn't have to factor in how much I cut, exactly. I guess some people don't measure at all, but I have to. I look forward to it so much :D

The measuring was easy compared to the photo taking! I had rejected at least 5 photos before I was happy with the one on my signature :) I can tell by the regrowth that my hair is growing but with the curls, it's harder to see so I'm looking forward to measuring on June 15. I'll have to mark it in my diary.

I would just about swoon for 7/8 inch of growth in a month, FrannyG! My hair seems to be growing really slowly to me. DH says I should measure in centimeters, so as to be more accurate as well as show growth better. Such a man!LOL He's a math teacher, so maybe I should listen to him.LOL

I started my hair growth journey on May 11 of this year (I edited my previous post where I said it was 15/5 as I checked the date my first picture was taken) but I decided to measure again tonight so I could start measuring the growth on the first day of the month like most people on the board. I'm not sure what my current growth rate is as I've never measured my hair before. I started at 25 inches and I'm now 25.5 inches which is good for me in three weeks. I'm very pleased as I always thought my hair grew very slowly or not at all. :cheese:

I just updated the Monistat thread & thought I'd post an update here. My hair has grown an inch since I first measured in May 11. I measured in at 25.5 on June 1 and I've grown .5 inch since that date. It has been MN assisted since May 30. It will be interesting to see what I measure in next month with a full month's use of MN. My layers are growing very long.

I think I'm officially at the top of BSL now (stretched, not that it makes much of a difference with the amount of wave I have). I don't have my tape measure here, as I left it behind so I wouldn't obsess over the summer, and so don't know how long it is, but I do believe it has reached the top of my bra strap:happydance:

I would say that if you were 24.5 inches in April, then you probably are BSL now. Most people seem to reach it around the 25/26 inch mark depending on the length of their torso. My hair is past BSL now when I pull it straight at 26 inches but my aim is BSL curly.

In my journey to BSL I have reached "hair trapped by back when slumped in computer chair" length, and I am thrilled about it! :cheese: I don't remember experiencing this 10-20 years ago when I had 'long' hair. Since I didn't measure it back then maybe it wasn't this long. Then again I probably just didn't have a computer chair. I can't find my photos of my hair at its longest (of course right before I got it permed :run:).

I'm at 24" now (longest layers only) and have about 1.5 to 2 inches to go till I can hop on over to the BSL to waist thread.

I kind of feel bigheaded or guilty somehow for delighting in this milestone but I knew people here'd be more than understanding.

That's a great milestone! I got my hair trimmed & I first noticed it was growing because my hair started to get trapped by my back on the chair. That only happens when my hair is wet though & it's straighter :( However, if I keep on growing 0.5 to 1 inch a month, I should be BSL curly at the end of the year :) & will join you in the BSL to waist thread. Well everybody seems to be growing along nicely. I started the monitat this week (mon) at 24" and I measured 6 days after at just under 24.5", re-measured 3 times and this was the average measurement, still a good inch and half from the top of my bra strap but its growing. I need to be 27.5" (remeasured) for bottom of bra strap which I am praying for September.

All in all I will have been a member for 12 months in Aug and in that time have grown 6.5" and thats with approx 2" cut off and I still have another month and half of growth to do before my aniversary. I estimated when I joined I thought I grew 8" a year, so not far off. Funny as it seems not that much longer since I joined!

Back on my cold water washes too! keep up the good work everybody!

I can't remember whether I checked in here before or not...but if not...hi! (waving) I cut a couple inches off two months ago. I have about two to three inches to go to be covering my brastrap. (I'm very short.)

I don't know how long my hair is right now, but I'd have to guess somewhere between 23 and 24 inches. I always have a heck of a time measuring my hair...I'm not that flexible and it's hard to reach around and back and pull down but not too hard and...and...and... (/wiping forehead)

Anyway, nice heads of hair on here! Imagine, this time next year people at APL will be looking at us and asking, "So how did you get it that long?" and such. Seems like a nice thought...passing on the torch! :D

I'm probably about 3 1/2 inches or so away from BSL. I think I get about a half inch or a little over a month. So maybe in November or December I will be at BSL. Wish it would grow faster!

I'm trying to post more instead of just lurking, so I thought I'd check in. I'm at 23" now and my hair seems to be growing a steady 0.5"/month. I will probably do a small trim on Aug 1st to help even up the longest layer. I'm tempted to try the monistat but since I don't use shampoo, I wasn't sure if that would be the best thing for me.

25" is my goal to maintain for a while to try and thicken up my hem and get rid of layers and also just the top of BSL. I should be there by Thanksgiving!:)

Oskimosa
June 30th, 2008, 04:08 PM
I am 27 months away from my goal, if 1) my hair will grow consistently .66 inches per month and 2) I don't trim. BSL is 25.5 inches for me and, since I'm hovering at 18.5 inches, I won't get there until next May. Boy oh boy. Well, looks like I'll be hangin around this thread for a bit. :)

ETA: Dude I can't count. I am 13 inches from waist, which is tentatively my goal, and that should be 19 months of growing, if I can keep up the pace. Not 27, sheesh. If I want I guess I can always let it keep going to hip. But I think at BSL I'll be comfortable enough to trim it.

I have had a few trims recently 'cause I felt like I needed them. Still at APL and I have decided to stop measuring for a while and focus on the milestones instead. Also I really want my hair to be virgin and healthy eventually so I will probably keep trimming pretty often. This means that it will probably take me longer to get to BSL than I first thought.

***depressed*** :disgust:

I will not be at BSL before Christmas! I am at about 21.5-22" right now, top of BSL is 25.5. You do the math. I will continue to use Monistat in the hopes of a miracle occuring. If I reach BSL before Christmas it will be due to the Monistat, as I am a slow grower; 1/2" or less per month normally.

On the bright side, microtrims have somewhat evened up my ridiculously raggedy hemline. Don't mind a little fairytale-ing, though. It will be YEARS before all the ends meet because I am growing out from bald on the bottom of my head.

Awww, cmon now, you could get there seeing as you've still got plenty of warm months to go before then (depending on where you live). Besides, there's still ..erm.. VALENTINES! Yes, you'll get there by Vaaaalentines. So you see, that's even better. *cough*

Yeah, I'm not too devastated. In the grand scheme of things, one months doesn't make too much of a difference. For the future, I'm probably better off to have fewer, but bigger trims.

Don't be depressed  My hair grew an inch in the first month & only half an inch in the second month & I hope it keeps on growing & I have some kind of growth spurt to reach BSL curly by Christmas. I think my hair like yours is hard to grow past this length but we have to remain positive & get past this mental block :) I've got a lot layers to grow out as well & luckily my hair is curly so it hides the funny lengths. Curly hair hides a lot of sins :D

I will join this club too, I'm at apl now and am realistically calculating reaching MBL (= mid back length. I want to use gender neutral term rather than bsl) by next summer. Most of my V tip is now well into bra strap. I'm at 24.75 as best I can tell. I kept pulling hairs out trying to grab the bottom of the V to measure . My arms are getting really limber now :). At some point I'll jump over to the BSL-to-waist thread :D but probably not before I've either decided to cut my hem blunt or just to leave the V. I haven't decided on the dusting thing yet either. I seem to be growing at a steady .75 inch a month, but now I hope I haven't just jinxed myself :p.

I have actually reached 'ponytail catching in sweaty armpit' length, and while out training the other day I had to morph the ponytail into a ponied braid mid-workout to get it out of my armpit. The braid looked pretty pathetic but it served the purpose!

Wishing patience and happy distractions to everybody here.

I am also close. Got a cut a month or two ago I think and she cut lopsided so had to have it done again. I don't think I am there already and I am also going to skip the 3monthly picture session and waiting for the 6 month period to pass now. I am in a phase of "ignore the best you can, enjoy the feel and not getting myself upset by measuring or taking pictures". It works really well because I look at it as little as possible ;)

I am not getting another microtrim until November or so, so I won't lose much now. :)

I'm hoping to reach bottom of BSL just before Christmas. It would be such a nice Christmas present.

When I get there I plan to do a small trim to even up the hemline. I need some time to sort out if I want to have it blunt or U-shaped. Now it's somewhere in between, like a very sallow U.

When I first joined LHC, my hair was about an inch shorter than it is now and nearly platininum from being over highlighted. I decided to henna it, so of course it came out flaming red and I hated it, but I tried living with it for a while. I tried everything to fade it.. which it eventually did, but it was still red. In that time, I somehow managed to grow it down to BSL, even though it was sooo damaged from the bleach. I remember just picking off the split ends and seeing them all over my desk at work. Horrible! So, I started getting inches cut off at a time and by January of this year it was back to my shoulders but in much better shape. My last cut was in the beginning of May which I think got the remainder of the damage off. I haven't had a trim since and I don't have a single split yet. My hair is now at APL and has never been healthier! I finally found a shade I like with henna and cassia, so no more torturing my hair anymore. I can't wait to get back to BSL again and have my hair look way better this time around :)

I keep reaching APL, but then I get fed up with my dry ends and cut it. I'm finally there again and if I only dust my ends from now on, I should reach BSL (my first goal) by spring 09'. Btw, my hair has never been past APL so BSL will be a major milestone for me!!

I have finally reached APL so I can join now! I feel like this is going to be the most difficult phase for me, as I still have about 3-4 inches to go until I reach BSL. Thanks Jojo for starting this thread :D I've just measured my hair one day early hehe than the start of the month & two days earlier for you Americans & it's 27.2". I'm just thrilled that my hair is actually growing. My expectations are very low hehe. I bought a pair of hairdressing scissors a few weeks ago & will attempt my first microtrim this weekend. It will be interesting to see what my hair growth will be on October 1. It's almost Spring here thankfully & my hair grows faster in the hotter months. Bring it on!

I don't have a digital camera & my friend who took the original photo is overseas at the moment but I put on the same dress that I wore for my profile picture & there is visible growth. I see more growth in pictures than I see on the measuring tape. I guess I'm more of a visual girl :) The first pink line is where my hair sits curly and the second line is where the hair now sits when I pull it straight. The first photo is a bit dark but in May my longest layer is as long as the diagonal black stripe. Now it is down to the next horizontal stripe which seems like a lot of growth. It shows you how much my curly hair springs up as well!
