What do you find to be the most convenient/quickest way to protect your hair during a motorcycle ride? I know that this has been contributing to a ton of damage in my hair as I have left it loose every time :O. I recently trimmed two inches off the length because of the damage and would like to protect it this time. What would you recommend?

I thought perhaps braiding and tucking the braid under my shirt/jacket?

Or a ponytail wrap, they cover the hair and protect it :)

You might want to invest in one of these:

I've heard they're excellent for covering and protecting hair.

I have no advice, but there are several biker babes on here who will have tons of suggestions for you!

I braid my hair when I ride my motorbike. I don't tuck into my jacket or anything - just leave it hanging down my back. I can't do any kind of buns or updos because they won't fit under my helmet.

I do two side braids to keep the bulk down (I wear a helmet each and every ride), tie on a bandanna to keep the inside of the helmet from roughing up my hair, and leave the braid ends loose. My braids aren't long enough to find much trouble when left out like that. If your hair is long enough, I'd tuck them down your shirt/jacket.

I braid if I have time but I ALWAYS tuck my hair in my jacket. In the summer if I don't wear a jacket I use several silk scrunchies and do a ponytail all wrapped up or a folded under braid all wrapped up. I NEED to put something over my head too like a bandana but it is a lot of trouble taking it on and off. I don't think the helmet causes too much friction on my hair on my head, hope not.

when my hair was long enough i kept it in a braid whilst riding, i never really tucked it in my helmet as i would assume it would get itchy after a while but i always were a banana or head scarf to protect my hair from the rubbing of the helmet and the frizzies

I wish I still had a bike!

I used to tuck my hair inside my jacket, and tie it at the nape of the neck first unless I couldn't find a hairband, plus always wore a scarf to hold it in. I used a faux silk scarf in summer, and I never rode without a jacket.

Granted this was when I lived in England, and summers are hotter here in Maryland (winters are colder too, though!). The question is, do you value your skin enough to cover it? You may feel differently when sliding sideways down the road on your behind! Been there, done that, but not without being fully covered at least.

One hot summer day I even wore a leather jacket with no shirt! I guess that's not really an option though if you're a girl, LOL! It also makes your jacket sweaty (uuugh!).

Former biker babe here LOL

When i was much younger i used to have behind the knee length hair, and rode a motorcycle regularly. My reference comes from always wearing a helmet, its the law in the state where i live so its imperitive here.

I always wore a braid, and i would once braided lightly coat the outside of it with conditioner rubbed between myhands and smoth it over the braid.

For helmet wear, you'll see a lot of long haired bikers who wear the rolled up bandana as a headband around their heads / foreheads, there's a reason for this. It puts some distance between your head, and the helmet, so your hair isn't constantly rubbing against it, like a space buffer.

I'm a former biker too... well, rider ;) When I was able to ride, I would braid my hair & tuck it into my jacket as well. Updos wouldn't fit under the helmet, and when I left my braid outside the loose braid-ends would snarl. On longer rides I would wrap my braid in a bandana before tucking it, so it wouldn't get all messy & staticky.

I know this thread is probably dead, but maybe someone will search for tips on this (like I did months ago) and might come across this.
I am a relatively new rider with a little over shoulder length hair. So I can't braid it yet (well I could, but don't know how to do it myself). So I found another solution to protect my hair while riding, and for now it has worked fine, and my hair is never a “hot mess" anymore when I take of my helmet.

I bought some satin and my mom sew together a “tube” I out over my hair. Looks like this:

It’s a bit long, but I don’t mind and I tuck it under my jacket.

And after that I put on my “Face mask” to hold everything in place.

I don’t use my facemask only, because it is made out of cotton and it always dried out and tangled my hair.

So this works good for me for now. Maybe in time I will try a silk one to see if there is any difference.

Nice solution! I'm a passenger for now (saving up for my licence), but I found double dutch braiding and putting a bandana over my head gave me enough protection to look put together when I get off. I might want to think about what I'll do when my hair gets longer. Tucking it in my jacket will constrict my movements, I'm afraid.
