How do you get a Gibson Tuck to stay in place? Could I use bobby pins?
Also, how can I decorate it with hair toys? I'd like to try to do a Gibson Tuck tomorrow and decorate it a bit for the holiday.

There's an article here (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/vbjournal.php?do=article&articleid=49). There are also some really good tips here (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=4792&highlight=gibson).
I just tried this style, and I find it really important to keep the pocket as small as possible, so that the hair won't fall through. You could use bobby pins, but I find it staying pretty well without them.
You could use a pretty clip, like in the article. You could use a comb and stick the prongs through the ponytail elastic, which would help make it more secure. If you scroll down a bit on this site (http://www.longlocks.com/hairstyles.htm), you'll see it decorated with hair sticks.

You can use a single pin, or a barrette, just above the tuck. Flowers are pretty, for decoration. I'm going to PM you a photo! :D

Here's an OLD pic of me wearing a gibson tuck.
IIRC I used a couple of bobby pins to keep the tail from escaping. I had to redo it at least once during the day.

Manderly, this is beautiful! Can you please tell me where you get these gorgeous sticks/forks from? Your Gibson tuck is great, no scalp cleavage at all.

That had me giggling. :D Man, I have that problem! I wish I didn't have such thin hair.

They are from heavenly harvest :). They are VERY pointy. And thanks for the compliment
I've also used pretty clips, combs, and forks to decorate them, but I don't have any pics. Combs do double duty of helping it stay in place too.

I hate cleavage, sometimes I just want to dye my scalp to match my hair LOL. I just use some *gasp* hair spray. I just got me some Aussie spray because I love everything Aussie makes :p

I'm feeling really excited about trying this.
I just washed my hair. I'm going to let it dry before I try this out. (Also, my FIL is installing shelves in my bathroom right now, so I don't have access to the mirror.)

So, it was hard to actually tuck my poofy hair. It ended up more like a roll, and used about 8 pins. It ended up not draping much on my neck because I was finding that too uncomfortable and it felt like it wasn't going to hold. I need my hair to be very stable.
But I like how it looks. I clipped on a big green butterfly.
I will have DH take a pic when I get dressed, and I will post it when I get a chance.

Oh Manderly, I'm SO happy! I just ordered from Heavenly Harvest, in spite of their poky pictures (is there such a word?), and I am sure I ordered just what I saw on your picture! This is wonderful! Exactly what I hoped for. I'll try the same hairstyle in a few days, I hope. Thank you.
