I am starting this thread on behalf of LHC members who are hair stylists.

I know you are out there, lol. Some of you even post, revealing yourself as stylists.

This thread is not meant to put you on the defensive or get you the angst caused by fellow stylists you do not know.

There is a website called Behind The Chair. Anyone can read posts but membership is restricted to professionals.

I for one, would love to know how different things work from your perspective.

Any tips or insight that may be helpful to fellow members all in one thread, will be very much appreciated by me, at least.

I have started cutting my own hair recently but that is not because I have lost faith in your profession. That is a personal choice.

There are numerous posts on hair colour. What are your thoughts on dealing with henna, conventional colour, etc?

What kind of support do you get where you work?

Do you get the MSDS sheets you need on product safety?

How can a client better communicate what they want from your side of the chair?

What do you use on your hair at home?

How do you feel about your own hair and does your hair reflect your own hair philosophy?

Are you pushed to sell things you do not believe in and how do you deal with that?

Please help those like me, who want to understand what you go through daily, from a positive point of view.

Who cuts your hair and what do you look for in someone who does?

What and how do you ask for what you need done?

Salon owners/managers, how do you feel about how other managers operate?

How do you prefer to run things?

I did not see this thread initially.

It is exactly what I had in mind, so I am posting it here.

I'm not a hairstylist but this is a cool idea for a thread.

I've often wondered what a nightmare it must be to interpret people's sometimes fuzzy articulations re what they would like done with their hair, knowing that if you get it wrong they will be upset with you :(

Must be great when it comes out well and the customer is happy, though :D

Thank you.

I was upset on behalf of the stylists with a rash of bad hair cut reports.

There are excellent stylists out there who do take the time to listen and care.

Had I seen the archived thread first, I just would have reposted it. I think that it is excellent.

I'm not a stylist but anyone can find an MSDS online. They're usually on website created by the chemistry depts of reputable universities. Usually you look up sheets for specific ingredients and not the names of finished products.

Yes that is true. P&G though, does provide MSDS sheets with a full ingredient list in most cases, for their finished products. I found that odd but very nice.

There are MSDS sheets as well on professional products, finished as well (usually not with a complete ingredient list, only the ingredients that have cautions of some sort). I have seen them online, when looking for a single ingredient MSDS sheet.

Example
http://www.sebastianprofessional.com/en_US/msds/pdfs/Evokativ_MSDS%20Sheet%205065%20CRAFTY%20BRAID-ART%20DETAILING%20BALM%2074444020101%20(06-15-.pdf

A stylist, though, IMO, should not have to look up an MSDS sheet on a product they are using. That kind of information should be provided for them. MSDS sheets on some ingredients and products require asking for them and are not easily accessed online.

That's really nice!

I would love to see the MSDS for AquaNet hair spray. That stuff give me hives! :demon:
