Seriously, forever. I cut it off a YEAR ago. And it's still short!!! Yeah, I know, I kept trimming it to cut off all the dyed hair and to avoid a mullet, but really now. Shouldn't it be at least chin length already?

I feel like the peter pan guy. Although it's much cuter than the side swept tucked behind the ears way I was wearing it, I just want my darn hair back already.

In 2001 I decided to "let it grow" and up untill about 18 months ago I quit trimming, it's *finally* growing to a decent length! :)

I had boy short hair too, I will never go back!

I have noticed that there seems to be a correlation between people who say their hair isn't growing and is trimming the damage off their hair. Hair grows on average 0.5". If you keep on trimming your growth, simple maths will tell you that you won't see much progress. I had the same problem where I was letting hairdressers sabotage my growth and now I trim my own hair and have taken control, I can finally see my hair growing longer

If you're trimming off dyed hair your hair is growing. ;)

When you stop trimming so much you'll see it.

I went through a period of fustration years ago when i made up my mind to never dye my hair again, the worst thing is you dont gain length just health, but once the dye had gone it grew to almost bsl now and it never needs a trim coz it's so healthy now. It grows so fast when you dont have to worry about cutting out damage

If you want to see how much your hair is growing, get rid of the rest of the damage and then let it grow-grow-grow; no cutting, except to maintain a pleasing shape, but only 2-4 times per year and only the minimum.

I checked out your album too and yes your hair is growing! Not as fast as you'd like because you've got to keep trimming off damage but it's definitely getting longer.

About 75% of my length is dyed. I haven't cut it in 11 months. I've grown from my chin to 2 inches shy of APL in that time. Keeping my hair up, using oils, minimal mechanical damage, and generally taking really good care of it has allowed me to grow virtually split and breakage-free.

Now, I'm not saying that it looks amazing down, but it's not as awful as I thought it would be, going this long without cutting. And it's much longer than it would have been if I'd trimmed every time I thought I needed to. Letting it grow and just dealing with the awkward stages allowed me to gain length so when I trim in January, I'll be able to get rid of some of the layers while still maintaining a decent length.

Yes, by trimming you really are just doing yourself a disservice! Stop trimming! When I joined the military - I went out and got a professional to cut my hair which was (Mid-back - elbow length) cause I figured if I had the stylist cut my hair up to the required length that the military wouldn't do it. Boy was I wrong! My hair was a little bit longer than chin length and it was styled all cute. The military chopped it all off, and made my hair look like a boys' hair cut but all uneven. I wanted to cry!!!! It was hideous! After that, I did not cut or even do a simple trim until my hair was at least back to the middle of my back.

In just two months time my hair had gone from above the tops of my ears down to the base of my neck(bottom of my neck). From then about a year past and my hair was hitting just below my shoulder blade. So it just takes time...you will notice it more the longer you hold off on trimming it. That is what I am doing right now. I am growing out all my dyed hair. I used to go at least once a year to get it trimmed - but after the last time the stylist cut off a good 6" or more - I have stopped going there altogether and it has been a good two years or more. And since then its gone from middle of my back to waist from waist to tb from tb to thigh, now hopefully before 2009 is over - it will be well past my knees!

I've been growing out a pixie for almost a year now and I've only trimmed once. I really needed that trim because of razor damage, I was getting white dots on the ends and didn't want them to split further. I haven't trimmed since and I don't plan to for another year. The reason I'm taking this approach is that I know that I need to see significant growth during this awkward stage otherwise I get too discouraged and am very likely to give up. Just my experience. :twocents:

I just posted the same thing earlier this week! The catnip rinse/treatment helped, and now I am going to try cassia. I think we need to start a "growing out from pixie" support thread. I have decided that from now on, I will use treatments instead of trims to deal with damaged ends. Once the side pieces are touching my shoulders (they're mid-face/cheek level now), I will allow myself to trim a little off any damaged ends.

Well, you're adorable no matter what the length of your hair is. When my hair was your length, my son and I drove past a man (yes, a man) with a classic length braid and I wistfully said out loud "Oh, I'd love to have a braid like that!". My son, the wise one at the age of 15 said "You can, Mom. Just don't cut it". So I didn't. And now my hair is long. Find fun things to do or put in your hair and try to ignore it. Before you know it, it'll be long. :flowers:

Can I jump on the "growing out from pixie" bandwagon? It is so hard to be patient... the in between pixie and shoulder phase is truly awkward...

If you're trimming off dyed hair your hair is growing. ;)

When you stop trimming so much you'll see it.

I stopped trimming the dyed stuff off in may. I got one more cut in August so it would grow out nicely and not be mulletish, which was amistake. she set me back two months.

YES! A "growing out from pixie" support thread! There are several of us right now, from what I read. Mine was always a razored cut, so I *am* getting a dusting off the ends every 8-12 weeks right now. I have to say, the guy that cuts my hair is very aware of my goals and sticks to just dusting the ends. I feel very fortunate that he listens to me, understands my goals and does his job well!

Good luck to all you pixie-growers out there. I feel your pain!
