I just did a search and the only reference I found to this maker was in Flaxen's hair toy links.

Has anyone ordered from Turn of the Century?

I think they are quite elegant and am thinking about getting one or two--and the price is right.

I've never ordered from--or even heard of--them, but they look beautiful. And the price is *definitely* right! I think you should buy some and then report back. It will be a totally selfless gesture for the benefit of LHC! ;)

I'll bump this thread. I've been looking at their crochet hooks for a while.

Yes, the crochet hooks are what got me there. Then I noticed hairpins in the nav links.

I'm not buying anything right now, I'll order a couple from my sweetpea for Winter Holiday. :)

I feel my resolve not to buy more hairtoys weakening...

I will NOT buy these. I will NOT buy these. I will NOT buy these.

However, I will be eagerly awaiting a report back from anyone who does. :) Then I can put them on my "wish list" for the future.

awesome price, but am I missing something? $7 for one stick, $15 for a pair is not a deal is it? Are people that concerned about the pair not matching that they charge a dollar for it?

I'm bumping this very old thread. I have stumbled across this seller's website (http://www.turn-of-the-century.com/hairpins.htm) several times, and I am very tempted. The sticks look very graceful and delicate and really are evocative of the old days.

Has anyone purchased from them?

Those are lovely! Thanks so much for the link... they remind me of Mei Fa sticks, in the simple delicate look of them. That works so much better with my thin fine hair. :)

I have 1 pair and 3 singles, plus a couple of shawl pins (like 3 inch size). I think they are beautiful, especially for the price. They are on the skinnier side, so if you break sticks easily, you may want to think about that (I'm not saying in any way they are inferior, I'm just saying, if you think you need a "chunkier" stick, these may not be for you).

I got these all at the same time, so I cannot speak too intelligently about customer service, but from that 1 time, I can speak to it positively. Things got shipped out fast, they kept me apprised of my order, etc.

I had seen this web site a lot before I ordered, and I wonder how often they add new stuff, etc - I could have gone for some tulipwood, but I'm not sure if any of those are available any more.

I'm at work, but at some point, I will have to post pics.

You're welcome, embee. I agree: They are reminiscent of Mei Fa's in that they are so delicate. I think that I have finally come to terms with the fact that some of the heftier hairsticks, such as Timberstone Turnings, overwhelm my baby fine hair an relatively tiny bun.

I ordered pair #10 from the
"Hairsticks - 5-3/4 to 6-1/4 inches long (Total Length)" section here (http://www.turn-of-the-century.com/hpgal.htm#shorthp). I emailed him last night asking whether that pair was still available. He replied this morning that they were and that he put them aside for me.

I, too, would have loved to have ordered a pair of tulipwood sticks.

I wonder if he would do custom orders.

I recently ordered a pair in african blackwood. They are so lovely! I really like them and hope to end up with a few more pairs. Shipping was super fast as well.

Kherome- you inspired me to e-mail him about a couple myself:) Thanks for the enabling!

eta: I was thinking of two similar singles worn as a mismatched pair. Is that crazy?

A mismatched pair sounds like it could be really cool. As long as they're similar in some respects (length, diameter, color family, or design) it could look intentionally mismatched rather than "I just grabbed whatever I could find and stuck it in my hair."

I'm happy to see Turn of the Century getting love on LHC, they were literally my first ever hair sticks, and still one of my favorites. :heartbeat

They were all I wore for work for like four years straight, until I discovered amish pins... I've lost some pairs to life but I still have two sets that I use regularly. I'm a little hesitant to post a picture because they're a little beaten up looking after many years of hard wear. It's really a testament to all the swimming and camping they've endured over the years.

I emailed him earlier but he hasn't replied. How long does it usually take? Would be easier to order directly or am I missing something?

Nope you just email him and wait. It's later at night now he may not get back to you until morning. Don't worry ;) He hasn't gotten back to me on my order just yet either.

I agree. :agree:
If the single ones I have on the swap board don't sell, I think I will purchase some in matching woods to make pairs. Maybe they will hold better that way for me. The tops will be different, but I think that could be interesting. They are really nice sticks in their own right, even though I usually go for thicker hair things..
Kherome, they look very pretty in your bun.

new Turn of the Century fan here! I got a purpleheart off the swap board a few days ago and it's absolutely amazing. How can one skinny stick hold so much hair up? And it's super easy to insert, it slides right through my coarse grabby hair. One stick works perfectly but i'll be ordering a second one just because i have a personal preference for pairs.

I LOVE the stick I just bought off the board! It's so SMOOTH and today at work I keep getting compliments :) I was nervous at first because they seem like they'd be easy to break, so I'm just going to take it easy for now. Beautiful, beautiful work.

not to threadjack with my own self-absorption, but dang my bun was so much smaller back in april! Ha, i wish i'd kept those sticks just so i could do a comparison shot of then and now!
