Hi all.

I'm in the UK.

I am trying to find a shampoo/hair cleanser which is sulfate-free AND doesn't contain any polyquats or GHC (guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride). I'm confused by how many shampoos and hair cleansers which are marketed as CG-friendly but which contain polyquats and GHC, ingredients which are all well-known for causing buildup. As a curly head I would rather not have to use a clarifying (i.e. harsher) shampoo every few weeks just to remove the buildup which has been caused by the supposedly CG-friendly shampoo I've been using for my usual washes. Seems to completely defeat the object of using a gentle cleanser in the first place!

I've found by a process of trial and error that GHC makes my hair feel very crunchy after just a couple of washes. Lots of products I've tried also contain at least one polyquat and had the same problem.

I have found a few baby shampoos which fit the bill, but only one of them with truly gentle cleansing ingredients.

For the record, I don't use styling products, I just scrunch in a little oil after I've washed my hair, so I don't need a shampoo/cleanser which will remove styling buildup, but even if I did need that I still wouldn't want a shampoo which is going to cause its own crunchiness and buildup.

For a while I've not been looking for sulphate-free now that my scalp tolerates sulphates for occasional washing, but I have noticed even looking for clarifying shampoos it's astonishing that they all seem to contain film-forming ingredients, especially GHC!

There are these, expensive but the cleansers do look gentle https://handmadenaturals.co.uk/collections/natural-sls-free-shampoo-shower-range

Classikool shampoo doesn't actually list it on their web page or Etsy, but the ingredients from the picture are
Ingredients: Aqua, Decyl Glucoside, Lauryl Betaine, Sodium Chloride, Xanthan Gum, Phenoxyethanol, Aloe Leaf Powder, Citric Acid, Benzoic Acid, Dehydroacetic Acid

Also if you're alright with sodium olefin sulphonate

You little diamond, thank you! I used to use conditioner bases like that as CO washes and they were brilliant. It hadn’t even occurred to me to check out the shampoo bases. I found a couple that look suitable, it’ll be interesting to see how they work out.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. :D
