Hey, some of you might have seen my thread in the "New? Start Here" forum, I did not think to move it over here until a lovely lady told me why I should, lol. :o


Okay, I'm going to post my full Journey with photos and videos, I did not realize how far I've come until I put all of this together! This journey has been full of ups and downs but each one brought me closer to understanding what my hair needs, the biggest lesson was to just leave it alone. All of those cute hairstyles only set me back when it came to length, I had to accept that I was beautiful even while wearing my hair in simple styles. This alone is the reason I've been able to retain so much length, I just leave it alone and make sure my scalp is always clean. I also realized that consistency and patience is the "Magical Hair Growth Secret!", it's not easy to accept but you just can't escape it. No matter what you do to achieve long Rapunzel hair you still have to be consistent and patient to see the results.

I wish I would've just relaxed in my first 4 years of having this knee length hair goal, I probably would be a lot closer due to fewer set backs. I also wish that I wasn't so ashamed of my split ends... I have tried everything! I made my life miserable for two years doing the "finger detangle routine" which took hours out of my day only to notice that my hair hated it in the end! I had so many fairy knots it was ridiculous! I kept trying to make it work by going slower and being more gentle until my ex lover "The wet brush" called me and all of our beautiful moments together took me over. So, of course I had to give him another chance... He was replaced a few years later but my hair was better than ever! I have come to realize that split ends are apart of my journey, my hair seems to do just fine with them and they don't look back when I straighten my hair. I had my last date with the "seek & destroy" method, I just go too far and I end up thinning out my hair. I'm going to make more of an effort to not cut my hair in anyway going forward.




Alright let's move on to the good stuff!



The Beginning:

I had to big chop again (June 13, 2012) after a hairstylist used keratin in my hair after I told her not too... (I should have sued or called the board) my hair was ruined and I had no choice but to cut it all off.

:knit:My next update will be next week with a length check, I recently measured and my left side was 26 inches, my right was 27 inches so we're about the same as January 2022 again after I cut some November of 2022. Waist length on my body (5"7 with a long torso) is 26 inches, I'm currently four inches away from hip length for the first time ever! I am so excited to pull my hair down to my hip, It will take me another year after that to be fully hip length (fuller ends)! Now, Knee length is 22 inches away which means I could be there in 4 years ( I'll be 34 years old). That seems like such a dream... I can't wait! :o

What a gorgeous head of hair! So full and shiny!

What does it look like curly after the S&D misfortune? When straight, you do have fairy tale ends, but if it's not noticeable when natural and you can't see any more splits or concearning ends you can push the trims a bit. But if you do still see some worrysome ends you should go for it, as the damage will travel up the hair shaft and you'll have to have more cut off than if you did it now.

Length Update





I did a braid out to stretch my hair, I think it's longer.... I have not cut it at all even when I wanted to, lol. I have been keeping up with my protein/bonding treatments to help with my splits and fairy knots. I always know when it's time for a treatment because the ends will tangle and lock, that's never fun! The splits never really matter when it comes to styling my hair ( it always looks and feels healthy)... I think I just have an image of healthy hair so my mind plays tricks on me. Anyway, let me know if you see a difference :o...



I made sure my shirt was in the right place but I couldn't find the same bra I was wearing so I think the side and front numbers are off, I will redo it when I find that bra.

Yes, I used and old t-shirt, I think it has been helping me stay accountable on this journey. It took me 20 mins to make! I love your hair hair, btw, that color looks great on you!

Thank you!! You are too kind :blossom:, I feel the same way after a few salon disasters and I haven't let anyone touch my hair since 2015. Honestly, it's better to do it yourself until you find someone who actually loves long hair. Most stylist just ruin it or try to cut it off, I was recently at Ulta and a nice hairstylist gave me her card. I had to throw it away, lol, my hair is finally the length I wanted since middle school and every time I trim it I can't stand the way it feels or looks. So, no salons for me, lol!

My gosh but that is exactly why I don't get my hair cut professionallly, or at all, I'm too shy to tell them they've done a bad job D': but that sounds devastating, I'm so sorry that happened to you!


Oh, yes, it was devastating! I had blue hair at the time, I wanted to grow it out and have blue tips (ends) so I took extremely good care of my hair back then to make sure my hair retained length... I wanted my hair straight for Graduation so I looked up black salons in my area, this one had good reviews. She did a great job straightening my hair but it had an awful smell later that night! I was at graduation taking pictures when I smelled something awful and it was ME! I tried to wash my hair after but the smell got worse every time I washed it, I was crying while searching on google to figure out what happened!!! My hair was not curling back up, it was straight even after five washes, google said it was keratin but I didn't want to believe it because I told her "Please do not use Keratin, my hair has been lightened to a level 10 (platinum blonde to achieve a vibrant blue)" she said "Okay, none of my products have keratin in them". So, I waited until I could see my Cosmetology teacher for finals so he could confirm or deny Googles claims! He took one look at my hair and asked "What the hell happened!" that's when I knew it was hopeless! He confirmed by the smell and feel of my hair that it was indeed Keratin... I made an appt that following week to get a buzz cut and I never looked back! I shouldn't went back to that salon but my temper at the time would've turned the place and her upside down so I just let it go.


The makeup was on 10 :rolleyes:, lol, I was a beautiful mess!

What a gorgeous head of hair! So full and shiny!

What does it look like curly after the S&D misfortune? When straight, you do have fairy tale ends, but if it's not noticeable when natural and you can't see any more splits or concearning ends you can push the trims a bit. But if you do still see some worrysome ends you should go for it, as the damage will travel up the hair shaft and you'll have to have more cut off than if you did it now.

Wow, thank you! That makes me happy, lol, I think I have a photo of it... The split ends traveling up the shaft is a myth, they will break off over time but they don't travel, all of mine are on the ends. Some cosmetologist will say that to encourage regular trims which keeps them booked and busy. You can get hair shaft splits from ponytails, over use of heat, overly brushing or combing the hair but that's not coming from the split ends on the bottom. Thankfully, we have hair bonders to repair splits now! I just have to fight my mind from cutting my hair, I was conditioned to believe split ends are bad and ugly but that's not true. It just means I need to take my time when I do my hair and make sure I moisturize my hair (keep a healthy protein/moisture balance). I think I get split ends because my hair is "coily" and it likes to lock up at the ends (especially after a trim) so detangling causes damage no matter what I do. But thank you for trying to help me, I love receiving advice because I don't know everything. :o

This photo is another reminder that hair needs time to even out, I only had a few strands at my tailbone now I have a lot more even after the S&D disaster, lol.

However, if you have colour, I do think those splits can travel, hence the need for bonding treatments and the like. I know my highlighted strands are definitely more fragile than my natural colour. I don't S&D splits though, only knots, because the knots create more knots and then tangles, and then breakage. :(

What do you think about those temporary colour gels that just wash right out? Have you ever tried some for a pop of colour? (that blue looked great on you!)

:blossom: I completely get what you're talking about, however, they don't travel. Your hair can have different kinds of splits which can make you think it’s traveling. Lighting your hair can open the door to some mid-shaft splits, this is one subject I’m very passionate about because I’ve always had some kind of split in my hair. After years of cutting and still having splits I decided to just let my hair grow (i’ve never lost any length), sometimes I have a moment of weakness and I trim but it never makes a difference in my case. :blossom:

That's exactly what I pictured, the eyebrows are a nice touch! I’m so glad the green washed out, I didn’t even think of that. I just thought it would wash out and not leave anything behind, but that’s wishful thinking, lol. Blue is just one of those colors that looks amazing on curly hair, thank you for sharing! :o
