View Full Version : Massaging the conditioner into the hair?

Do you simply apply conditioner to the hair, or do you give little time for massaging it in? I have recently started to massage it a little and I think I've noticed some benefits from that. I anyway can't be quite sure about that yet and I continue my experimenting, but has anybody else been doing this and seen some results? :)

I wouldn’t necessarily use the world ‘massage’ for what I do, but I do make sure it’s thoroughly applied on all of my strands (as much as reasonably possible). I’m just too OCD-inclined not to. :)

I still add to my message that my results have been very good lately, but i have been doing so many things to achieve good results, that i cannot be sure to what all factors the credits go.

It’s more like a light squeeze or rub motion, making sure all the hair strands are coated, I fix the hair into a lazy wrap bun or a stick free nautilus bun, then I put on a freezer bag, turn on hot water for a shower, this provides a heating effect over all the bathroom and opens the cuticles for better absorption, after I scrub my body squeaky clean, I rinse the conditioner off with cold water to close the cuticles.

There's a technique called 'squish to condish'.

Maybe this thread would be interesting: https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=148172&highlight=Condish

There are links to another threads and articles too.

Personally I massage or press (very carefully, not hard at all) the conditioner (and masks and even leave-ins) to my hair, and I do this for at least for a minute for a conditioner or a mask.

Thanks, Suortuva, I have heard of this method elsewhere online, but haven’t read anything about in on LHC. On to read to see if I do it correctly or for the right reasons  I apply in 2 sections with flat hands, then apply another squirt to my palm and squish gently like I am scrunching my hair for wavy styling. Then I clip it up for however long the rest of my shower business takes (about 2-5 min).

When applying to the lengths, we do "smoosh" it in there. I do wring out my hair first, so it's not dripping and can "accept" a product. Does that count as massage? Probably. I don't just coat my hair, no. And it helps because then you don't have to use heaping heaps of the stuff. Lately I add a tiny bit to the fuzzy bits by my temples, it helps when styling afterwards. Less fuzz!

I never massage it because it tangles easily, I simply untangle the strands from below with my fingers and let it act for a while

I squidge it in, put it up in a bun, then I comb my hair to detangle before rinsing. So ... maybe that half counts. I don't really pay too much attention, particularly, but I do make sure it's thoroughly coating my hair.

I usually brush it through w a tangle teezer, and I'll do that w my leave-in and serum when styling it after washing

I generally give it a smooth over all over and then pay extra attention to the tips. No massaging here. After shower, I spray lightly with a leave-in conditioner.
