The list of hair styles we have not yet done for Style of the Month is becoming short! And most of what is left are names from old lists that have lost their descriptions.

Combo Knot
Easy Hairstick Bun
Ficcare Braid
French Roll
Lazy Bun
Lazy Infinity Bun
Long Clamp
Pencil Bun
Puffy Bun
Rosette Bun (knottedbun)
Topsy Bun
Twitch'sDouble-looped Knot
Wrapped Bun
Wrapped HairstickBun

Now, the ones in Italics sound to me like generic bun descriptions, but if you know what any of these names means and can provide links to descriptions, videos, photos, etc please do!

Also there is no way the LHC Hairstyle Thesaurus (https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=145554) is comprehensive. What are we missing? What new thing have you invented or old thing have you discovered?

This video (https://youtu.be/Z0k3dD4qX34) is for a "pencil bun" that is probably the same structure and process as some other bun we have here. But it was one of the first ways I learned to do a bun with a pencil (or stick or whatever).

Okay, on the subject of "old" things not mentioned in the hairstyle thesaurus:
Back at the beginning of 2018 I did a 30 day braiding challenge based on a post on hairbylori.com, which is no longer there but can be found on the Wayback Machine. The ones she listed that I don't see here are
Infinity braid and suspended infinity braid
Zipper braid
Feathered braid
Slide-up braid
Ladder braid
I did all these at the time and can probably find links and pictures. Also Lori had links and pictures on her site. (I'm so bummed the site is gone. There were so many good pictures and links!)

Also I found this woven updo (https://www.cutegirlshairstyles.com/hairstyles/time/5-10mins/the-woven-updo/), listed in the 30 Day braiding challenge but not really a braid. I don't think we have quite this style but I'm not positive.

Haartraum has this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NepoivO6N8 for a Simple Hairstick Bun that is also titled as her Nessa Bun. I don't know if that's any different from what is meant by "Easy Hairstick Bun. (She has phenominal hair)

I also found this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZI3rM6WvKo for a Wrapped Hairstick Bun. I did it on the first try and it's very secure!

That's exactly the bun I thought of when I read "Easy Hairstick Bun", "Pencil Bun" and "Wrapped Hairstick Bun" but I couldn't remember exactly how to do it, thank you :D

I love high ponytails and since my elastic bubble was burst once I came to LHC, I've been thinking of safer ways to do them. There's one I'm "working on" that I believe could look great if someone more skilled and with longer hair did it (hoping tuanyiji stops by :D).
It's a (french) braid held pony, where you start braiding your hair from the front and transition into an English braid once you're right below the spot where you'd like your pony to be.
Finish the braid, get it out of the way and you should have one thin-ish braid and the remainder of your hair down. (You'd use between 1/4 and a 1/3 of your hair for the braid, depending on the thickness and weight of your hair, or the overall look you prefer).
Gather your remaining hair into a ponytail, poke a hole with a finger in your braid at the spot where the "french" part ends and the "english" begins and take your ponytail through/out/over the braid.
Wrap the remaining braid around the base of the pony to mimic an elastic.
Et voila - braid-held pony tail, no tools needed.

I'll edit the post to include pictures soon, my hair is too clean to listen to me right now.

ETA: Here's what it looks when your braid is too thick

I’m here and I heard you, lol let me digest that information first.
If I were to wrap the end of the french braid around the pony base, I’d probably use a stick and do it the lazy wrap bun/pony way to secure it.

I think I have a de ja vu moment as I read this, I came across the Lacrosse Braid thread in the past:
https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=47079

Hey, y'all. I was watching the ACC women's lacrosse championship today and saw a really great braid on one of the UNC players, #5. Our hair types, lengths, and colors are pretty different, but I wanted to recreate it anyway and see how I liked it. I've been wearing it all day, and so far it's a hit.

It's not complicated; the pictures below are pretty self-explanatory. But what's great about it is that it combines the visually interesting sectioning off of a French braid near the face with the big lift and off-the-neck coolness of a high 3-strand. No sagging, no ridge-down-the-head, and no slick-back-from-the-face of a tight ponytail.

This style isn't for those shy of pulling tight, but I think that's what might make it perfect for athletes. Also, if I were going to do this for looks over function, I'd cover the elastics with a length of hair. From TV, I couldn't see how she fastened hers; the elastics weren't so visible. So that is something to ponder. Incidentally, it looks awesome on what was probably BSL, blond, type 1 hair!

As I gather, once upon a time this braid was quite popular here, but since the pics are no longer working, I still couldn’t quite visualize the braid, anyone else can help?
Is it something like this? https://www.pinterest.com/pin/9077636734038143/

This is a great thread, I will frequent this in the future as I dig through the old threads and try to fix the missing links and pics of hair tutorials.

Lazy Infinity Bun?
I thought that was shortened as L-Infinity, as well as because it uses an L-gesture.

But I actually have a lazier version of Infinity Bun that uses a stick to lead the whole thing and takes like 10 seconds. It is also quite popular in China because Chinese bunners love to lead with the single stick (and seldom use a fork, flexi-8, ficcare or cage), while LHC bunners seem to prefer to lead with the hands and fingers, and then insert the tool.

I will try to do a text tutorial and video tutorial later.

For new braids, I highly recommend Youtuber and mother-daughter team Learn Do Teach Hairstyles. The daughter has past knee length iii/1b hair and they have created a lot of wonderful tutorials that have me drooling all over the screen. I’m not even joking, they are THAT good. Unlike most hair influencers, they never push any hair products, never chitchat, they get right to the tutorials with clear steps and demonstrations.
https://youtube.com/@LearnDoTeachHairstyles

Sweethearts Hair has a lot of tutorials for kids and adults, but there are a lot of hairspray and teasing involved for the fancier ones: https://youtube.com/@SweetHeartsHair
Mindy started out for kids but now moved on as her children grow up, her page is still a great resource if you skip all the family vlogs: https://youtube.com/@CuteGirlsHairstyles

The following ones only work with mannequins/wigs/extensions but they have a lot of great tutorials:

https://youtube.com/@AnotherBraid
https://youtube.com/@irina.abramova_hair
https://youtube.com/@CoiffuresSimples

And if you want to up your braiding game to MASTER level, I highly recommend Myhairstyle_xo, this Finnish girl has a pair of golden hands and god-like hand-brain coordination, your jaw will be on the floor if you take a look at her page:

If you love fantasy styles and have usually thick long hair, try the following:

I will keep editing and expanding my rec list.

That does sound similar! I did manage to take some photos. I made the braid way too thick though and now the ratio of pony tail to braid is pretty sad looking lol, but as I said - I'm still working on it :D
Here's a link to all the big photos (https://imgur.com/a/Bqlk1QQ).

This may seem hilarious but I accidentally found some multiple braiding tutorials from a baker named Challah Prince

The way he sections out his strands reminds me very much of how bobbins are separated on a pillow for lace :D

I have come to the end of the well described hair styles in the Thesaurus that have not been done as Hair Style of the Month! Which reminded me of the existence of this thread. I need to check here and a couple other places where people may have reported missing styles. Please make suggestions! I'll try to make time for needed updates.
