Just thought i'd stop by to say I have started Daktarin today for the first time. I used SuicidesEve's method of diluting it and then applying using a hair dye-applicator-type bottle.

I will post again with results - whatever they may be!

Question about applying it on iii hair:
how do you apply it without using a whole tube?! LOL! On myself it's rather easy, I don't have that much hair, but applying it on my BF scalp is not easy. I don't want to dillute the cream because that would make the percentage so much smaller.
I have used it twice on his hair so far and got very good results for his scalp! He had bad dandruff that was even painful because parts of his scalp were 'breaking open', that is cured now and the dandruff is nearly gone!

Btw What kind of medication contains ketoconazole (mentioned here (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=45484))? That would be interesting to try for some people.

Good to see it's helping with the dandruff problem. It worked the same for me, now I'm just waiting to see how it helps my hair growth. As for ketoconazole, I don't know about medicine, but I know Nizoral anti-dandruff shampoo contains it. I find it much better than head & shoulders or anything like that.

I have been using the diluted method (except for the area around my face and my center part, I used undiluted there) and I got ~1" growth in one month! I had DBF check 3 times. Amazing!

Also, I don't think I can pin it only on MN. Other things I did this month: multivitamin + 500mg biotin, and I joined a gym and exercise 2x/week. It's also summer, which gives me faster growth, and my stress level is down.

Your post is interesting chahuahuas, I will take everything into consideration. I do not think it is unsafe to use Monistat within reason.

Update, I trimmed my hair 1/2 an inch on July 11th, since then I have grown a 1/2 of an inch :D it looks like my growth is back to normal, last month I only grew 1/2 an inch the entire month  I am at 18.5 inches

If I had the money I'd use Monistat forever. I never shed while using it. I still use it on my hairline every 3 days, and this way I keep the tube lasting for a while. Once its finished I doubt I'll continue because I worry about long term use side effects.

I've been doing alright with the 4%, but I'm likely going to go back to the 2% next because my local stores are always out of the 4% within a reasonable price.

I haven't used it for quite a while, but have a lot of growth: after trimming it every couple of weeks I still got from the middle of the hollow of my back till just past where the hollow of my back starts. Strange.

Is there a poll somewhere about the lenght of time people have been using Monistat? I am curious if there are people who have been using it for months or years even.

I'm curious about this as well. I vaguely remember reading about people doing it one month on/one month off, or even talk of three months use at a time.
Maybe some data could be collected about this, in order to make a database of how MN results vary with hair type, concentration, routine etc?
Apologies if this has already been discussed/done, of course :o

This is a great idea!

I used Monistat 7 for over two months, just about daily. I stopped using it for two months and I'm thinking about starting again. I gained about an inch of growth. I wonder if I will be able to grow another inch or if I have reach my growth potential?

Hey Apple Betty; I think I''ll try that as well. I'd really like to get my bangs to catch up with the rest of my hair. They are a good 2-3" shorter than the back, which is BSL and blunt cut. I've been spending so much on all the other good stuff reccommended on TLHC that I think I'll have to wait for next month when I get paid again. LOL :D

I've been using MN for 3 months now. The first month twice a week diluted and the next 2 months only once a week. Hair has grown 3.5 inches, but cannot tell if it is because of the MN or a summer growth spurt :hmm:

Still, MN is really cheap in my country and helps my scalp, so I think I'll continue the routine for a couple of months.

I've thought about trying Monistat- right now I'm trying Sulu Max Gro, and it's working but smells positively awful. Knowing that my hair grows like a weed without any help, and my scalp is pretty resilient, I'm willing to give it a try sometime soon. I'm right now at about chin-length, and really would like collarbone-length soon. Without a growth aid, I can expect that in about 5 months. I'd be interested to see what Monistat might do.

OK, I'm really interested in trying this out. Can any of you "experienced" Cootchie cream ;) users give me directions? Like, How much do you use? How do you dilute it? With water? How long do you leave it on before washing it out? Any details you can give will be appreciated. Thanks! :D

Back on the monistat bandwagon! I've been using it for about 2 weeks now, undiluted. I wish I would have actually measured but it pushed my ''can I call this bsl?'' length to full on bsl :) I am VERY happy about that. I have others say it made their nails stronger as well so since I've been having issues with my nails peeling,I decided to leave my polish off and see what happens.

My one complaint is that I haven't been able to stretch my washes to a week anymore:( I hair hasn't dried out though. I just do a heavy oiling on the ends before bed and the a CWC the next day.

I don't know how long it takes most people to get to waist but I am hoping to make some progress this year. I think between monistat and no trimming I should be able to get close.

I have been thinking of trying this but the idea of a three day migraine scares me BIG TIME. I am a stay at home Mom to 4 little ons (6,5,3,1) and I CANNOT have a migraine for three days. Has anyone ever actually experienced these symptoms? Also if I have used Monistat for *ahem* other reasons (what it is really meant for) and didn't get the migraine would I be OK to try it? Really scared of that headache:(. Any advice appreciated!

Hi Mermaid OH,

Years ago when Diflucan was first approved for use in an oral delivery system I took it at the suggestion of my doctor for chronic candida (yeast) that I've had since age 13 from antibiotics. The Diflucan made me extremely ill with headaches, nausea, dizziness...etc., As a result I stopped and switched to taking acidophilious which works. I also take herbal yeast supplements which are great. I'm a big believer in herbs and finding natural alternatives.

I also stopped using Monistat years ago because of related complications which no one really talks about.

With that said, I would be too leery of using it on my scalp so close to my brain because of all the various complications which are known for any type of fungicides of prescription strength.

However, there are some wonderful natural yeast formulations you can buy at Whole Foods or similar. One such formula is YeastAway which comes in a gel cap. It is designed for yeast infections and the idea is that the gel cap melts after being inserted (my apologies for being too graphic). It's been around for years and was developed by a woman for women who didn't want to use Monistat or similar.

Could this work on the scalp? Yes, of course. It might take a little experimenting, but the gel cap could be opened with a pin and the ingredients squeezed out.

Also, you can buy acidolphilous in a really high strength powder (look in the refrigerated section of the health food stores). Mix this powder with a little warm water and try this as a scalp application as well.

The YeastAway has always works well for me and I don't worry about all those ingredients are doing to my insides.

The reason I am so leery of any chemical fungicides like Diflucan or Monistat is that some of the related fungicides are NOT recommended for use by women who are pregnant, hope to become pregnant or may be nursing. These fungicides are also not recommended for anyone under age 12...which always says a lot to me.

Anyway Mermaid, there are natural alternatives if you want to bypass the risk of headaches and other symptoms.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!:cheese: I try to use only natural items on myself and my family and the idea of the Monistat, as you said close to your brain, does indeed make me nervous. Thank you for your wonderful suggestions! Looks like I will be taking a trip to Whole Foods. It is nice to see people using natural alternatives. I too take acidophilus everyday and actually began taking it years ago when my midwife recommended it. Thank you! :D

Well, I used WalMarts Equate brand of Monistat/Miconazole last night and was relieved that I didn't get a headache. I'm also glad to say that my itching has decreased. I'm going to rub some into my arm each time as well to see if the white spots diminish. I'd heard it years ago and now again on this thread that that those white spots are probably a sign of a fungal infection so I'll see what happens. I'm also going to rub some into my nails each time since they've always been weak, splitty and break easily. Time will tell if they get stronger. Have any of you had any experience using Athletes Foot spray which is also Miconazole 2%? It just seems that it might be easier to apply and was wondering if it would work as well as the Monistat has for so many of you. Hope to hear from some of you. Thanks for all your experience and for sharing with us nooBs. :D

Hello all :D
so a few days ago i jumped on the bandwagon.
i've done 2 apps with diluted monistat (2%) with no side effects.
i have noticed more shedding throughout the day. in the morning it sheds like crazy but it calms down to just a few hairs in the afternoon... i know. weird.
Anyway is this normal for the first week or so?
if this doesn't help me get hip length hair in a few years, i may just have to lock myself in a bear cage :(

I'm still doing the routine, and still not noticing a difference as far as shedding goes, but I noticed slight growth difference in my last two measures or so. I wonder why some of us still shed so much.

Oh well I am in the monistat 2% clan - applied yesterday after I CO washed hair - no effects (smile and sigh) - (I am a headachy/migraine person). Have decided I will apply three times a week and see what happens. I diluted it in some warm water and applied it with a sauce bottle lol.

But since it contains paraffin, I won't be able to CO-wash anymore... But can someone explain how Daktarin can work if it contains paraffin, which can make your hair grow "less"? Anyone? :(

Hi Mermaid,

Glad I could offer an alternative.
I talked to my acupunturist about this (he's a cute little Chinese doctor) and he said to buy yogurt at WF or similar that has the least amount of sugar. There are one or two brands that are like Greek yogurt and almost no sugar. He said to make a paste of that and try that as a scalp mask. He said the yogurt will in essence do the same thing as the Monistat.

I haven't tried it yet because it seems messy but I have tried the YeastAway and the acidophilous mask and they bought seemed to make a difference.

Let me know what you try and how it works for you.

Have a great weekend. :-)

Well, I'm checking in again here, and as of today, I'm still at 42". I've been applying the MN diligently (2%, undiluted) approx 3x per week, and leaving it on longer than I used to. Not really sure what's going on with that. The previous two months I grew 1/2 inch per month, and this month nothing. Any thoughts?:confused:

I might be wrong but I believe the accelerated hair growth is a side effect of miconazole. Greek yoghurt doesn't contain miconazole so it wouldn't do the same?

ETA: I realise aswell that the greek yoghurt would get rid of any fungal growth.

Okay, I need some advice. How many here can use Daktar and still use CO-washing method? The CO routine has made my hair so much better, and I don't want to throw it away on Daktar which may not even work for me, and if it does, it might just give me 1 or 2 extra inches, total..

I am soooo sold on this. For my whole life I have had these ringlets just above my ears. they have never been able to figure out how to get them to grow, they've always been about two inches long at the most.

Well I used the monistat, about 6 weeks ago (I haven't since but I am about too). On both sides the ringlets are growing! 5 inches long now. I actually didn't even think of them when I used it. I can pull them in with the rest of my hair when I put it up in a bun.

I am soo stoked! :D

Rub the leftovers on rough heels and feet. The same fungi that cause athletes foot can cause dead skin to build up on feet.

Also, while you shop for Monistat, there is a product called "Chafing Relief Powder Gel" made by Monistat. It's not for infection, it's a smoothing gel.

It's the same thing as the expensive under-makeup products but for 1/4 the cost of products like Smashbox Photo Finish. Your makeup goes on like a dream.

Sorry for suggesting another way to spend money!!!!

Hello all. I'm a long time lurker around these parts and I've been reading this thread and a few others. I looked up castor oil on Wikipedia.

"Therapeutically, modern drugs are rarely given in a pure chemical state, so most active ingredients are combined with excipients or additives. Castor oil, or a castor oil derivative such as Cremophor EL (polyethoxylated castor oil, a nonionic surfactant), is added to many modern drugs, including:
Miconazole, an antifungal agent;[21][22".

I am thinking I am only going to try the castor oil and see how it works for me. My hair is extremely damaged. It's been bleached, dyed, stripped, dyed and then bleached again, straightened with heat, blown dry and any thing else I've come across. But now that it's incredibly damaged it won't do anything without a complete styling routine. I'm at 19 inches(BSL) and it never seems to get any longer, I think due to tons of breakage:(

So I've been doing the whole Daktarin thing for nearly a month now... thought it was time to post an update.

http://img830.imageshack.us/img830/5892/tdoit.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/830/tdoit.jpg/)

In case anyone has trouble reading the stupidly small writing, it says :'where I was on 14/08'; 'where I am now' (picture taken on the 28th of the same month); '... and where I think I'll *actually* be by Christmas... since APL is about here.'

As far as the Daktarin goes, I think it's working pretty well, as this is indicative of a fortnight's growth. It's about half an inch, I think? I haven't been able to really measure accurately because all of my messings with henna affected my rootline and I find it oddly difficult to get consistent readings from the length of my hair. Maybe because it's short, and difficult to reach. Idk.

I'm going to try and get DH to take a picture that's consistent in size and position with one from the very beginning of the month, to chart my overall progress, but he's being a pyar grump about it right now so it'll have to wait.

Pretty pleased so far though!

Personally, I didn't notice any growth difference when I used the Walmart brand. I had tried the 4%, and it didn't do anything much. I went back to the name brand and I grew a little less than half an inch the next month.

Even still I haven't been noticing any difference in the last month. Any thoughts as to why it seemed to work for the first two months, but it isn't now?

I've been using the generic brand of the monistat on my scalp to help with the itching and dandruff (I have it really bad and would wash my hair way less frequently if not for that). I saw instant results, but when some of the dandruff seemed to come back, I thought maybe it was a fluke so I stopped using it. That was a terrible idea because the dandruff came back with a vengeance! I say dandruff, but it may be something else because my scalp comes up in scales and itches like crazy! I've started using it again. If hair growth is a side effect, then great, but my main use is to tame my itchy scalp!

Is Mometasone Furoate a similar preparation to Monistat? I don't think so, but have just found a fresh tube of the former left by a flatmate! :cheer:Would be good if it did, but I think it's a steroidal thing rather than anti-fungal.

I loss my hair due to chemo and will try this for the chemo ppl like me. Guess I'm gonna hafta figure out how to download pics and what not.
Well I'll give updates without pics if necessary. Here we go;)!

Well after my first week measure mess up, I got on with it correctly. My dad is a retired carpenter so he measured for me.

I started at 2 3/4 inch of hair measured same section weekly at around same.

week 1: 3 1/4 = 1/2 inch growth
week 2: 3 3/8 = 1/4 inch growth
week 3: 3 5/8 = 1/4 inch growth
week 4: 3 3/4 = 1/8 inch growth

Total hair growth so far is 1 1/8 inches.
My relatives and friends are amazed!:cheese:

Other than a little itching, maybe still sensitive because of chemo, I had no problems.

I ended up mixing mine with herbal hair grease which made it sooo much better for me.

Hope it was helpful and I will continue while trying other ingredients.

I've been reading this thread for a few days now. At first I just couldn't believe that something so magical like MN really exists, it souded too good to be true. I cut my damaged coloured long hair short 2 years ago because I was depressed every time I looked myself in the mirror. Now, my hair is all natural and somewhere between APL and BSL, but 2 months ago the growth stopped and I also experienced some serious shedding.

So I've decided to try MN. In my county MN 2% can be bought as a Daktarin Cream or Daktarin Oral Gel. I tried both and the oral gel is way better for my oily itchy scalp, it makes it a bit sticky, but at least not greasy:) I put it on after I wash my hair, and I fix the visible residue with some baby powder (which is invisible on my ash blonde hair, but maybe not a good idea for those with dark hair).

Because MN can also be eaten, I'm really not afraid that it could hurt my scalp/hair in any way:) I'm just a bit disappointed that I cannot buy Daktarin Powder, because we simply don't have that in my county. I believe that product would be perfect for me. Also, the lady in the pharmacy told me that I cannot get MN 4% without a doctor's prescription. I told her what are my intentions with Daktarin and she was quite interested, she said that she might even try it herself, lol.

I've ben using this gel for three days now, so I cannot say anything about the growth, but my scalp feels sooooooo much better. No itches whatsoever, and I had a very itchy scalp fot the last 10+ years. That is a great improvement for itself, but I'm still hoping for some growth. Fingers crossed!

Oh, and I'm so freakin' happy to find LHC, thank you all for all the information and amazig posts.

All right MN people, I'm going to buy some Daktarin. It depends on my local Boots I suppose whether I'm going to be able to get the Oral Gel, Cream, or powder.

I actually have a fungal problem on my feet ATM so if they ask me why I want it I can show them :p

As well as this, I have what I am suspicious may be a fungal problem on my scalp, so aside from possible hair growth I am wondering if it will sort out my itchy, flakey scalp.

I just started using Monistat last Wednesday. My hair usually grows very slowly - Maybe an inch every 3 months.

I didn't measure accurately to begin with, but I can tell by my roots that it's grown almost 1/4" already.

I'm using the 2%, direct application, every other day! On the off days, I'm spritzing with Red Bush tea before going to bed.

I just bought two packs of name brand Monistat 2% (the combi pack, with cool wipes/internal/external cream etc) for about $28, I know, I live in Australia, life's tough for an impatient hair grower here...

I think this way it comes with the extra 18gm of cream though, cheapest deal I could find anyway!

Hi Emme76; Yes, this is the right stuff (Miconazole 2%). As to how long a tube will last? That will depend on how often you apply it, if you apply it straight or dilute it, how heavy you apply it. In general though, a tube will probably last at least a month. Good luck! :D

Hi! I live in sweden and i have just started using Cortimyk. It has the same ingrdients as monistat. Since I have just started using it I can't say if it is working but I thought I should tell you anyway.

I wan't to say hi to the rest of you as well. I'm new to the forum but have been lurking in the shadows a few months. And this week I decided to try miconazole nitrate. I'm hoping for wonders in growth since i'm very impatience. Waist can't come soon enough!

I messed up my first application a bit, tried it undiluted and was a bit of an idiot about it.

So after watching the video at the start of this thread about how to apply it, I've decided to go the diluted way. Going to apply tonight.

I need to wash my hair tomorrow evening, though, do you think that will make a difference? Or should I wash tonight and apply tomorrow? (No time to do both).

I started this last Friday. I wasn't able to find the tubes but the prefilled applicators. I don't know if I'm putting it on too thick because it takes 2 1/4 prefilled to do my head of hair. I put it on after washing out a honey cinnamon lightening treatment. I hope I see a growth result as my hair is not where I would like it to be. So far my husband says my hair is softer but it feels so so much drier and it looks like its has frizz up the entire length which I didn't have before. Is this normal?

My hair is growing by 1cm a month, much to slow for me...
So I'm really curious about this, I haven't decided yet if I'm going to use it, but still, I can't help but hope it will work for me! :cheese:

So what made you choose Cortimyk?
I have looked at apotekets homepage and if I'm not mistaken, not only Cortimyk has Mikonazol in it, but Daktar and Daktacort has it too, who also are antifungal-cream for feet.

I was just wondering if you have been recommened that particular cream?
Because I have trouble deciding which of them to get...if I do decied to do this experiment.

All I can say it's very temping, and a little bit scary, I'm very protective of my hair and I can't help but worry that what if it all goes terribly wrong?! :blueeek:

Maybe I should start by testing a bit on my skin to see if I get a reaction to the cream or not.

Then I know if it's possible for me to try it on my scalp.

You're right, the three creams contain the same amount of miconazole nitrate, so I just went with the cheapest one :)
I may be wrong on this next part, but I believe i read in this thread that it was the combination of miconazole nitrate and hydrocortisone that gave the best results. Cortimyk and Daktarin has them listed as active ingredients but cortimyk is cheaper. I'm a student and every sek counts ;)

So I did my first monistat treatment today. I diluted it. I should be able to tell how much growth I get since I did my first henna treatment last week and will be able to see the roots. I was a little nervous at first about getting a headache that I think I worried myself into having one. haha.. anyway the only real side effect I think I had was this funny taste in my mouth. I read about someone else having the same thing, but I don't remember who it was, anyway, it wasn't terrible or anything, just weird. so I am gonna do it 3 times a week for the next month and see how much it grows. So, I'll let you know.

A week of using this has gone by and my hair has grown a few millimeters (3-5, problems with the measuring). I'm going to continue with the cream to see the effect after a full month, if it's good enough I'll continue and if it's not good enough at least I've gotten rid of the nasty flakes on my scalp. The flakes were actually a bigger problem than the growth rate tbh.

Alaia, lots of people have said that its easier to apply on damp hair. i personally apply it from a hair-dye bottle onto dry hair, so either way shoudl be ok!

Same here, my scalp issues are more important to me right now.

i'd been using this for 3 or 4 months or so, and stopped back in june or july, to switch over to using rooibos tea instead.

i have psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis on my scalp, so my scalp is usually very itchy and flakey. of course i'd tried traditional dandruff shampoos, but honetly those didnt really help, and dried out my hair WAYYYY too much :( MN is the ONLY thing i've ever found that COMPLETELY clears up my scalp. i'm talking NO flakes, NO itchiness! and to me it only makes sense that if theres not all that crap on my scalp, the hair will have an easier time of growing!

for those curious, i stopped the MN b/c of a few things:
-- the cost
-- the inconvenience
-- and what, i'm supposed to just keep doing it FOREVER?!

as far as the rooibos tea goes, it wasnt too bad. helped a LOT with the itchiness, and moderately with the flakes. BUT, it was kind of messy to apply, even moreso than the monistat. and it has to be kept refrigerated so it wont go bad, unlike the monistat. also, its hard for me to find plain rooibos tea here, although a friend in London did send me some. AND, its easier to mix up the water and monistat real quick than it is to wait for the tea to steep.

soooo yeah.

i've been using all-natural shampoo bars for a couple months, and they've helped a lot with the itchiness, but not really at all with the flakes. i know maybe i need a littl emore time for my scalp to adjust, but i'm impatient.

so i think i' going to start back with the monistat again. 1st i'm going to do a manuka honey treatment on my scalp though, and see how that goes. maybe it'll help enough that i wont need to hop back on the monistat bandwaon.

wither way, i figured i'd give you guys an update! :)

After seeing the success level I achieved in 1 week, my friend now wants to know if she can do this on her 2 year old daughters bangs. Her daughter got a hold of the scissors and cut about 2/3 of her bang off from 3 1/2 inches long approximately to less than a 1/4 of an inch. She doesn't want to do it anywhere else just there. Is there any reason why she shouldn't be able to do this?

I would NOT apply a chemical to a developing youngster. There's no telling at this point what it could do to the brain or nervous system and what the long term residual effects might be. As a matter of fact, I have stopped using it on myself as I just don't think any possible extra growth is worth the downsides that are being found from so many of our modern day "remedies".

Just wanted to pop in here and say I tried the MN experiment for 3 months and stopped, not only because I saw no improvement in the growth rate of my hair, but because it actually GOT WORSE.

It could have been poor timing, a bad time of year for my personal hair growth, but in those 3 months I got a 1/2" LESS than normal for me so I stopped using it.

Just in case this helps someone else. :)

I've been doing it for one and half week now, I use Cortimmyk, the same one as BabyFirefly recommended and no side-effects so far.

I take about half a teaspoon Cortimyk and two tablespoons lukewarm water and blend, first I used (avmaskningsmedelsspruta för kattungar) a thing you put dewormalizing-paste for kittens, it's like syringe without a needle.
I can take pics if needed be. :D

It didn't work as well as I hoped, the tiny bits of cream clogged it and then you had to puxh a little bit harder for anything to get out and the when it unclogged I got to much at the same place

So now i just dip my finger tips in the mix and put it in my parted hair, it's much easier to do this on yourself, 'cause my finger knows and feels were the parting of the hair is, to use the syringe feel much more clumsy.

As for the growth, I don't know.
My friend Jennie helpt me measure before and a week later, and we must have done something wrong 'cause my hair is 2 cm or 0.8" shorter...

This week I'm trying to see if works to put in the mix three times instead of two times a week.

Thank you for your good luck wishes, I hope it works for you too :blossom:

I am thinking about doing it 2-3 times/week. Then use the Rooibos tea the rest of the time. And see what happens. If I get nasty headaches I will stop at once. But you never know - if you never try...:)

I don´t know how much really got down to my scalp, even if I really tried to rub it in. Also I felt like I got a bunch on my hair. And it made it a bit greasy. Most of it was gone by morning - but not all.

I didn´t get a headache or any other sideeffects. So far - so good :D!!!

So i have been using it for nearly a month and its working again for me like it did last year. It helped me get past my stall at BSL waist is getting closer and closer normally i only do it for about 3 months as i am worried about the possible side effects...

So I'm about 2 1/2 inches from waist which I'm happy about as that was the length i was before i had a big 2 inch trim in the summer:D

I'm measuring at the end of the month. I've missed a couple of applications but I don't think the MN has had any effect on my growth. Will stick it out until the end of the tube in any case.

It's week two for me, still no side effects, but no extra growth either, I'm going to measure it again on sunday, that's the end of week two for me.

I've only measured it once before after my first week, and the it was a bit shorter than the week before, so I think we did something wrong when we measured it before I started with the treatment... :D

I really don't think Monistat 2% is working for me :S I used it about three times a week for two weeks, and apart from an initial spurt (around 1/4 inch in a few days) I see no increase in my 1/2" monthly rate. Do you think it might be because I haven't been sleeping much? I've probably been getting half the rest I need in the past two months. Ah, the joys of being a student

I wonder if sleep does has a factor on hair grow i have been getting 12 hours recently and my hair seems to be growing a lot, or it could be the Daktarin i apply it in small sections 3-4 times a week diluted.

I just bought monistat 7 and i was so excited to try this but when I got home I opened the box and realised that there are seven ovules. I can't return it and they where quite expensive here in Canada so I don't want to waste them. Any suggestions?

Maybe try the diluted formula where you break it and mix it with the water? I haven't used to ovules so I don't know how difficult they might be to break.

Well I am entering my growth spurt season and I still want to reach hip as soon as! so I am going to use daktarin 3x a week and re-start my rooibo spray inbetween, lost my spray bottle but as soon as I get another I am back on that too.

My hair measures 30.1 and I plan to do my first daktarin treatment tomorrow after ive washed, maybe with my natural growth spurt season and the help of daktarin, ican make 34" by February or is that too much like wishful thinking?! time will tell, I shall report back in a weeks time!

I got my Monistat today and just applied it!

My starting measurements are 16.25" and 2" regrowth.

Which MN it is:

It's name brand 2%, Monistat 7 (with the cool wipes, applicators, internal and 'external cream').

How I applied it:

I just took a shower and washed my hair pretty much as usual (used a bit of left over box dye awesome conditioner that my sister didn't finish on my ends), hopped out and patted some of the water out of my hair with my towel, shook my hair up a bit, sat on the side of the bath with my head upside down and about an inch of Monistat lined up on my knee haha, then with my fingers tried to rub it all over my scalp.

I didn't expect it to be a pretty pearly cream!

I had a headache already before I applied it but I'll update if anything extreme happens.

Why:

I wanted to try Monistat not only for extra growth but because I get a constantly itchy scalp a couple days after washing as well, I'm not sure why, as soon as I wash my hair it stops, very annoying as I'm trying to stretch washes.

P.S
I did it on clean hair because my itches were giving me the irrits, I was worried my scalp oil would prevent the MN from being as effective (but now worried it will make my hair look oily when it's dry :p) and because it seems a lot easier, it was super quick! It also (to me) smells pretty much like nothing.

^^ apparently it stays working for 72 hours. I used to apply every day and somebody on the forum can't remember who told me to just apply every 3 days. My cream lasted longer (no 5h1t sherlock!) and my hair still gained length.

Incidently do you know of an online site to buy the 30g tubes, Asda has the 15g for under £3 but I am sure they can be bought in the larger tubes. somebody did post a site and I can't find the blinking page in this huge thread! TIA x

I started using Daktarin cream on the 7th October. I used it two times a week a day before washing. I used it undiluted. All I can say is - wow! I have lots and lots of new (baby) hair all around my hairline and also on the parting (I don't know if this is the correct word, I mean the line on the top of my head where my hair is divided). So, this baby hair has different lengths, the shortest 1", the longest 2", but I really must say that I did not notice this hair before using Daktarin. It's so funny, because now I have lots of short hair beside my ears and it looks like sideburns :)

As for the overall length, I don't know because I trim and S&D my hair very often (since I joined the LHC, I'm obsessed with trying to get rid of all the split ends as soon as possible). I don't want to measure it anyway, because I afraid I would jinx it  I used 1 whole tube of Daktarin cream (30 grams). This month I plan to use Daktarin Oral Gel (40grams). Because it's not as greasy, I can apply it on wet, clean hair and it is not visible. I will take a picture next month and compare it with a picture I took last month to see if there is any visible growth. I need to learn how to upload pictures first. :)

I started using this on my Husband and in one week, I have notice a difference. He had a major recession on top of his head, thinning through the middle top and his crown was very thin and bald too. The rest of him is furry! :-) So, have been using Monistat 4% 5 days out of the last week. Mostly mixed with extra virgin olive oil though one day was straight and left it on over night. His crown is already filled in and thickening, the top is thickening, and the recession areas have lots of new growth that is filling in those spots. :-D I also started him on Biotin 5000mcg to give his new hair strength. It is working! He also keeps his hair shaved short, so the difference is more apparent.

Hope this helps some! We are super happy with the results in just 1 week of use so far!

Well, if you consider my post above yours, then it can. Depends on the person and the reason he is losing it I suppose. I knew this would probably work because when Hubby takes Omega 3's he starts to get his hair back in those spots; albeit much slower. I figure using this to get it in nice, get him to continue to take omega 3's  and biotin and I will have a Husband with a full head of hair again. :D

I am no expert as I am experimenting on my Husband's head, but I think you may thin out a little toward the thickness you were when you started, but the length would stay.

I started this tonight, I used the 2% name brand Monistat-7 and diluted it in some warm water and put it in a little syringe type thing for easy application. The only side effect I've experienced so far is the tender scalp. It's not super tender, but I have sensitive scalp anyway so I expected this, no headache yet though. I plan on applying 3x per week, diluted like I did tonight for a month then seeing if I notice a difference.

I am very new to this community. I just started using the miconazole 2% and diluted with water and applied with a hair color bottle to roots only and worked in. (It was about ½ ounce of water and ½” strip from mn tube) on dry hair last night before bed. I did this thinking I may need to get up and wash my hair in the morning just in case it was too greasy or dirty to wear another day without washing. (I have just quit all heat styling and co wash most of the time, in effort to repair my permed/dyed/flat iron damaged shoulder length hair, i'm going for at least bsl or waist length!!)

So this morning I wake up expecting to wash or co, BUT… it is really not greasy at all, maybe just a little bit thicker feeling on my roots. So I did not touch it with water or anything and I’m even having a good hair day, lol. My question is did I use enough to do any good?? I am sure every inch of my scalp had contact with the solution I applied. If this is enough, is there any harm in keeping on my head for a couple of days until I wash again? I am planning on trying to use this a few times a week. Would it hurt to add more on overnight and then wash out? Or should I only apply once before getting it off my scalp and doing it again??

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

also, i was easily able to keep waist length hair when i was younger, do you all think it's still possible now that i'm older? has anyone had difficulty growing out when they were able to younger in life??

From what I've read earlier in the thread, the monistat will work for 72 hours (3 days) if you leave it in. I plan on doing mine once every 3 days. My solution was just about like yours, except I probably added a bit extra Monistat since I was using the kit with the actual tube, wipes and the cream in a cylinder like thing which I guess is for internal application. I decided to use the cylinders first, since there was like 7 of them and they were re-sealable. When I took some out of the cylinders it kind of went everywhere on the glass that I was using to mix so I may have used a bit more than necessary.

I think diluting will be the best for me, as just applying straight to my head would use a lot of the cream and it can get expensive fairly quickly.

Update: Well, having been using 4% on Hubby several times a week. We had originally saw a lot of new hair growth coming in. I shaved his head (yep, it is super short anyway, as in buzzed) and then was able to apply easier and watch everything grow in. Also bumped him for 5000mcg of Biotin to 10,000mcg. New hair is still coming in on top, but his crown is a bit thinner again. :-( Don't really understand why though. It is also taking a fair bit of time. But I guess it is much better than none at all! I guess I had higher hopes since we started off so well with a nice growth explosion. I thought he would be filling in much, much faster. *Sigh*

Aw AmiBlue... Don't be disappointed, Monistat is more of a lucky dip, it's great if you get something good but you can't be too disappointed otherwise.

I think you should definitely give it a bit more time though.

ETA: I 'think' it's working for me? I'm not experiencing any side effects, I only do it once every three days on wash day, maybe I should do it more often? I'm just worried it will be a pointless extra application because it probably won't be on for very long.

I got my first headache from Monistat the other day. I diluted it like I always do, and applied to damp hair. But I was busy doing some other things around the house and kinda started sweating on my scalp so I think that's what caused it. It wasn't a horrible headache, and went away after I took some Tylenol. I haven't measured yet, but I can already tell that my hair has grown a lot faster than it normally would.

@chrystalevonne - Yes it just makes my roots feel a little thicker, like there's a little bit of product in my otherwise non-product laden hair. It doesn't feel bad or anything. I can still style my hair after it's dried with the monistat on.

I use dilluted Daktarin Oral Gel with 2% MN. I do have very slight headaches that last for about 10-15 minutes. I used to apply hair dye on my scalp every two months and this is somewhat similar, but still not as intense and the feeling fades away faster. I also believe that if the stuff is good enough to eat, it will not harm my scalp :) In the instructions it is stated that gel can be used for babies, too, so ... But that's just me, everyone has its own opinion and limits what and what not to put on one's scalp :)

So I've been using Daktarin for almost 2 months now 2-3 times a week before wash day. Here are the photos of my growth, I'm sorry about the quality, I'm really bad at this :(

This photo was taken on 5th of October 2011:

This one was taken today:

http://shrani.si/f/1R/HI/4GD7gE4j/1122011-4.jpg

I combed out the longest layers in both photos to straighten them as much as possible (without heat). I trimmed my shortest layers a bit between this time (because they were damaged) but I did not touch the longest ones.

I still have Daktarin for two uses. Then, I will decide if I'll continue using it. My scalp loves Daktarin because it reduced the itching and greasiness, but the length - I don't know, I'm not so impressed. I think this is just normal growth rate. So, if I do continue using it, it will not be for the length, but for the better condition of my scalp. Maybe I'll use it only once a week or every other wash - to kill the monsters on my head :D

But even if there was no effect on the length, I did notice a lot of short hair all around my hairline and the hair on my balding area on my forehead did become thicker.

Been using diluted Monistat 2% for a week (twice) and I been noticing a lot of shedding. I'm kind of scared because I dealt with this issue a couple of months ago. I think I should stop it, my hair needs to stay on my head!

Thanks too. :D

Where is everyone buying their 4% formula? I have been searching high and low and can only find the 2%. I can't even find a 4% online anywhere.

I am in Las Vegas and went to Walgreen's, Walmart, CVS and Target.

I bought it from Target in 4%. You have to read the box carefully, but they do have one or two in 4% and the rest are 2%.

I started this three days ago. I haven't seen anything amazing, but I hope to soon. I haven't really had headaches or anything like that but I try not to use too much at once so that I can avoid it. I hope that it helps my dandruff and maybe once that is taken care of, my hair will be able to grow properly.

So last week I decided to stop using Daktarin after two months and my scalp is irritated again (like it was before using Daktarin 2-3 times a week). I will not use it again yet because I have some unused stash of castor oil and will try that. I also read some old posts here where people say that the "crazy" growth stops after two months. Maybe I'll be back, don't know yet, hope castor oil works too.

I bought my first tube of Daktarin today, and I'm ready to try it!

But boy, the pharmacist was giving me quite a hard time! I'm a chatty gal, and I told him it was that I was going to rub it on my scalp to encourage my hair to grow. He never heard of that 'side effect', and he was really judging my intelligence and sanity ;)

He asked me where I got such an idea, I told him that I learned that several people tried it with good results, and he really had to try véry hard not to roll his eyes. Then he started telling me about 'the placebo effect' of people reading a lie, and believing they're seeing results too when they try it, while nothing really happens. Note to self: never tell people you're about to rub anti-fungus ointment on your head

My BF was making fun of me too, but I'm used to that ;)

I've been discouraged after lack of growth with the MN in the first week. Should I go ahead and finish up my current 2% tube then go straight to the 4%? I plan on using it diluted, but I don't know if I need to stick with the 2% for a little longer....

Don't be discouraged by pharmacists. The first time I bough Daktarin, the pharmacist just rolled her eyes and looked away, as if I was lying about using it on my head because I'm too embarrased to admit that I have athlete's foot. The second time there was an older lady pharmacist who was very interested and actually said that it makes perfect sense because of the antifungal effect - apparently all of us have fungus on our scalps, like it or not. But some of us have too many of it and that is one of the reasons for problems with scalp. So I went out of the pharmacy feeling good and reassured the second time and no other pharmacist can ever take this away from me :D

Thanks Tota! I'm glad the second lady didn't judge ;)

It was like an exam, he really wanted to hear me say that I'm a silly girl. I think it makes sense too! I just know that people here are serious about their hair and about informing others, and the measuring tape doesn't lie, so I really don't believe in his 'placebo-theory'.

Sadly, I'll never have the chance to tell him if it works or not, in a month time, he'll retire. Such a shame, I really wanted to flaunt my hair around in that pharmacy after growing it with Daktarin

Oooh, the headaches! Boy, I had a rough night, I swore I'd never use Daktarin again.

But then... I measured! I had my mum measure my hair yesterday, and again today (not that I expected much after one treatment). According to the measurments, my hair as grown a spectacular full centimeter!! Can thàt be accurate?? If so: WOW!

Knowing myself, I'll forget all about the pain, only remember that spectacular growth, and try it again in a couple of days :D

Maybe that's a bit much? I'm not a specialist, but I think (if I get over the headache) I'll do it 2 to 3 times a week.

I think it's a good idea to give your scalp a rest, you can always apply it again in a few days.

Good luck :)

Oh, and hi everyone! I'm on a quest for longer hair. I'm about to jump on the Monistat train. Using the MTG on my hair is stinking like crazy. I plan to switch back and forth between the two.

I found some 1oz tubes of 2% miconazole nitrate on ebay for very cheap. It's not part of a yeast infection kit. If only it came in 4% so I didn't have to buy a kit with a tiny amount of product.

I started this last week as a trial run. I'm not actively growing out until after St. Baldrick's, but I do want my red dye gone so I can go light blonde one last time before being natural again.

I figure this way I'll know whether or not it works for me ahead of time. I want to take some supplements as well, so this way I can observe the effects of MN by itself. I'd rather not use it, but will if it's a dramatic difference. I hate in between lengths!

Plus, I have a lot of scalp irritation, and am hoping this helps.

I haven't really noticed any headaches or other side effects. I applied the 2% diluted with water Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

Monistat, or Miconozle Nitrate is an anti-fungal cream, when applied to your scalp can stimulate hair growth. Personally, I get great results and get nearly double the growth I normally get a month. Here is a good intro video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1U_gmnZJ0V8).

I tried tea tree oil. It did not have the same effect and it made me feel sick after a while. Even though I diluted it very well. You really should use tea tree oil very often, I was only doing it once a week with a few drops and it caused issues.
Some people find it very drying.

If you want to go ahead and try it anyways start small and dilute well. I'd also suggest to not do it too often. Now, knowing what I know the most I would do it is once every 3 weeks. I'd use it to clean my scalp really well, if I need it.

Okay.... I'm hoping right now that this isn't some huge, coordinated practical joke... because buying this stuff today was highly embarrassing!

I got Daktarin, which isn't available on the shelf here and you have to ask for it at the pharmacy counter. Even though I got the athletes foot one, rather than some girly one, it was still highly embarrassing! The assistant wouldn't even make eye contact when she explained that it was an antifungal and asked me if that was okay. I felt the need to explain that I was going to use it to try to grow my hair faster but she clearly didn't believe me and rung it up super quick while keeping a safe distance from my allegedly fungus-infested feet. I insisted that she should google it but clearly wasn't getting anywhere, so quickly retreated to my amused BF who was lurking at a safe distance.

Is it just me, or does buying this stuff embarrass other people too??

I don't have a baseline but assume I'm an average grower. I'll keep measurements and if this tube does nothing, I won't be repeating that experience.

I wondered who or how this was discovered too... I just imagine someone was putting monistat down there and then didn't wash their hands and then scratched their heads everyday (maybe what was ever going on down there was going to their heads)... and well, since they had to use monistat for 7 days and scratched their heads for those 7 days, they then noticed their hair grew from shoulder length down to their waist in that 7 days, so that's how using monistat on your head was born.

I've been wondering that myself. My best guess is that someone looked at the anti fungal ingredients and decided it might be crazy enough to work.

I'm sorry to hear about everyone that's had embarrassing experiences buying the stuff. Pharmacy staff are really supposed to remain more professional than that. Still I can kind of relate to the embarrassment. There are a lot of talk on the hair loss forum (mostly men) about this, many say that this stuff (monistat or the actual ingredient in it) may cause liver cancer or other cancer, I would be careful using this stuff for vanity reason and then die of a cancer later on, is it worth it?, I mean come on we all want healthy long hair but is it worth it to pay our life for it, of course not, lets be real, even if this stuff accelerate hair growth it will need to be continuously applied with the tube price at $15+ and the need to use one tube a week or even more, then once you stop the hair will stop growing, how about the long term effects, what would we do if we use this stuff then a year from now we find out that if we stop using it our hair will shed forever, why not just stay natural.

I have a feeling that these big pharmaceutical companies doing some gossips around here and there so we keep buying the stuff for other uses, they know that it will take 10 + years for them to get the FDA approval for this thing to be used for hair that if FDA approve it, they start hiring people to gossip around so we buy it under our own risk.

So, I don't think my hair really grew faster, but I'm sticking with it, I want to give it at least 3 months before I give up.

Did you try it yet? :)

Yep, twice now. What a drama to apply!! First time I used it undiluted on dry hair, not too difficult but what a grease slick the next morning. So second time I diluted with warm water and used a squeeze bottle to apply to wet hair. I found this such an awful, messy, tangled task and think more ended up in my hair than on my scalp. I found the undiluted way easier for sure so will probably do it that way in future, the night before I'm due to wash anyway.

Now I understand why people say they stopped using it, even though they were getting results. It's quite a chore.

Happy to report no headaches or skin reactions, even though I can be prone to both.

Hey everybody!

I just realised I hadn't posted with my progress for a while and would like to give you all an update.
To recap I apply Monistat with JoJo's technique (will explain further down) after each wash which is usually every 2-3 days.
The Monistat's working well! I feel I'm getting almost the maximum out of my hair growth and my hair is denser. The growth rate is not ridiculous but some people have commented that my hair is growing quickly.
I experienced a headache the first time I used it though I can't say it was definitely the Monistat, I have not had one since.

JoJo's method, which might help some of you finding it a chore:

After washing and lightly drying hair you squeeze out an inch of Monistat onto a bench (or your thigh :p) and keep dabbing your fingers in it and spreading it on your finger tips and then rub onto your scalp, rub everywhere, use your knuckles to get further in at the crown.
You can put your head upside-down too.
That's it, just make sure you have rubbed absolutely everywhere and you're set, if you timed yourself that probably took two minutes.
When my hair dries it's perfectly clean, I can't smell or see the Monistat at all (not that it smells to me anyway).

I also wanted to add that I have had my Monistat tube for a while and I've only made a little dent in my first one! I have two tubes and I would not consider this an expensive thing to try.

Happy Growing!

Thanks for re-capping that method, will try next time I wash. I agree about it being inexpensive, I've used very little after 2 applications. Not sure how some people are getting through a tube a week, maybe they have different sizes in different countries. Mine is a 70g tube, not sure if that's normal.

I agree, me too. Mine's only 45g tube, but I've barely used any. I apply every 3 days to my whole scalp. I don't use a lot though.

I started a week and a half ago. Two weeks ago I had dyed my hair. I can see a bit over an inch of roots all over. It's crazy and looks weird, but I'm happy.

Vitamins aren't FDA approved either, the same argument could be made there . Actually, I think they're even riskier since many people spend most of their lives on them.

This usually used on a very sensitive area of the body.
Not everyone uses that much and I believe it's been stated in this thread that it is supposed to be a short term use.
Many members have used it and none have reported permanent increased shedding, if that's what you're saying. I mean our hair will alway shed no matter what. Also our hair will still grow after we stop using it, it just returns to our regular rate.
Also it's not gossip by the company, according to members it works. I think you should try reading the thread here before making a misinformed post.

If you wouldn't mind please link the forum or let me know how to find it. I'd love to read what is said there and the proof that they use to back up what you've stated.

I found the MN info posted by SuicidesEve while I was lurking and figured "why not?"

I started using MN 4 days ago. I'm using a 2% diluted with olive oil every other day and CO wash it out after a few hours. I have short hair, so it's relatively easy to apply (I squeeze some out and use my finger tips). I did notice a minor headache the first time, but nothing the second. I figure, if the MN does nothing, at least the olive oil treatment will be good for my hair and scalp. My hair has definitely been more soft and bouncy and no more itchy scalp. :)
I want to get through this awkward short stage as quickly as possible!
I've been taking photos of my naked hair before I apply and will continue for two full weeks and will post results.

I'm thinking of trying this. I have seb derm on my face - and imagine probably on my scalp also.

Boudicca, I can't report on the thickness yet, but I have a tendency to get psoriasis sores on my scalp, and had a few when I first applied this (silly winter). The sores haven't healed yet, but they are noticeably less itchy. However, since I diluted mine with olive oil, the extra moisture could also be what's helping. The MN didn't burn or make my scalp any worse though.

The cause of seborrhoeic dermatitis remains unknown, although a yeast that is part of the normal skin flora, Malassezia furfur, likely plays a key role (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seborrhoeic_dermatitis)

I would assume if you have the seb derm on your head, the anti-fungal ingredients in MN would help. And once the skin is healed, you'd have a better time growing. Do you have a prescription med for your face? If you do, you might try using it on your scalp. I also used to use Tar shampoo, and that helped heal my scalp, but its super drying on the ends, maybe as a CWC?

I've been using the 4% brand Monistat for 2 months now and haven't noticed any increase in my growth rate at all per measurements. I am using the warm water dilution technique, but I use about a half inch of the Monistat in the mixture. I apply it every other evening on my prewash nights.

I am thinking of applying it straight (no water) to see if this makes a difference. On the other hand, I have never had a problem with scalp itching or seborrheic dermatitis/dandruff. Although the mechanism of action is not known, the supposed theory floating around is that the Monistat reduces yeast that is inhibiting hair growth. It would make sense that if you have naturally lower levels of yeast flora on your scalp, then the product may not work for you.

You're welcome! :)
I think it also depends on when you feel you have enough on your scalp, I use the inch only and make sure after it's all gone I then re massage my scalp.
My Monistat tubes are 45g each. 70g is huge :p!

My main aim, though, would not be so much length - but to make my hair on my scalp a little thicker (I can see scalp through my hair). Has anyone else had success with this?

I would've said my thickness was closer to an i before I started and now it's definitely more of an ii, I didn't count the hairs per square cm or anything but when I used to part my hair it looked as though I had a thin patch and that's gone now.
Like has been mentioned before I think it helps to retain more hairs/grow new hairs and you don't shed as much but when you stop/take a break you may lose quite a few of these hairs that wouldn't have stayed there without the MN.

Well my mum was trying a new braid on me and asked "What did you do to your scalp??" I have always suffered dry scalp it was never serious but apparently this afternoon while my mum was combing through my hair clumps of dry skin were coming off!!! Ive always used oil in my hair so I'm goin to assume the monistat has something to do with it. I'm excited to see where it will take me especially with length :)

I've been using Daktarin for two months (Oct & Nov), then switched to castor oil. While using Daktarin my growth rate was the same as usual, but I did get a lot of new baby hair all around my hairline. The thing is that while using Daktarin, my scalp felt amazing. After a week of not using it, I developed a severe case of seborrheic dermatitis (I had it in a very mild form before using Daktarin). Now I'm using Oronazol shampoo and trying to fix the damage done because I can't use Daktarin for the rest of my life ... I'm planning to use it every year for two months to thicken my hair, but no more than that.

So those of you who are prone to seborrheic dermatitis may take into consideration that when you stop using Daktarin/Monistat the problems will come back and can be quite severe.

I've heard that monistat helps not only with hair growth, but also with dry scalp/ dandruff. Can anyone confirm?

Oh yes it did :D! But that was becouse the pharmacist decided to question my intellect becouse I (being my usual blabbermounth-self) enthusiasticly told him it was to grow my hair. He did believe me, but tought I was slightly insane ;)

Our checkout people think I'm insane when I buy 3 or 4 boxes of MN at a time once a month. I buy this for 2 friends and myself and they buy other hair stuff. I've got the one trained that she just rings me up and asks how the progress is going. The first time I bought 3 boxes I was given a really odd look and asked a lot of questions.

I started this again today! I did it about a year ago and I remember thinking it worked, although I didn't keep very good track of it.

I've been really disappointed in my growth rate lately, I've grown less that 1cm in 3 weeks, so here I am!

I got the Monistat 4% and I am applying it straight onto my scalp. I plan to do it every 3 days after I wash with my fingertips.

I'll post my progress!

I can certainly attest to this. I never have dandruff when I use MN.

Definitely. When I used it, all of my rare 'scalp pimples' and itches went away

I went to the store the other day and picked up a bunch of stuff for my hair, one of which was a 45g tube of monistat (2%). I also picked up something call Doo Gro Stimulating Growth Oil (DH suggested it), it has all natural ingredients - just a bunch of oils. I bought a small spray bottle and mixed 1pt monistat, 1 pt Doo Gro, and 1pt warm water. I nooked it for about 25 seconds and then capped the bottle and shook like crazy - it makes a nice creamy texture. I then threw it in the freezer and forgot it for an hour. I applied it for the first time this morning (you have to give it some time to thaw if you leave it in the freezer as long as I did). The texture is really smooth and its pretty easy for me to apply with the spray bottle. I'm currently at 9 1/2 inches so we will see what I am at in a month!

I don't know if I'll be using mn again. After I applied it tonight, I felt very weird and dizzy. I may have to try out castor oil or stop trying to hurry my hair growth period. :(

Ok I take it back. I'm completely fine today and that's never happened to me before. It may have been the restaurant I ate at. Shortly before. :D anywho, I measured my hair today, exactly one month after starting mn, and had a 1 inch growth gain. Normally, I'm a slow grower at 1/4" a month. So happy! :joy: :cheer: :D :cheese:

Seeing all your great results, I just had to buy myself a tube of Daktarin, and do my first treatment. I found it relatively easy to apply undiluted on dry hair, and there was no headache or greasiness to speak of.

However, the shedding after using it was quite alarming. I wear my hair up most of the time, and usually shed about 5 hairs a day, or a little more when I wear it down. After massaging the daktarin in and detangling afterwards, I counted... almost 50 shed hairs! I really hope these were just loose hairs that have built up over time, as I really want to keep trying with the Daktarin.

Ok... sat here now with my first application just done...

I feel weird, like the smell is irritating my nose o_O even though it doesn't really have a smell. Sort of like when I used to use hair dye and my nose felt irritated by the chemicals.

Hi everyone,
This is my first post ever at LHC. I have been reading various posts for over a year now, and I have learned so much about hair (thank you!). I don't yet have any pictures, I made this profile a long time ago and wasn't really sure if I would ever post anything or not. Regarding Monistat, my question to anyone currently using it is, after you have applied it to your scalp how do you wear your hair afterwards? From my understanding, the rest of the hair shouldn't really come into contact with Monistat, and the only way I can think of accomplishing this is by braiding my hair. Is there any way other braiding in which my hair will be protected from Monistat and also be in a protective updo? I would hate to dry out my hair. I might be confused on this information, the idea of using Monistat is very new to me, but I definitely want to give it a try. Sorry for the long rant, and thank you to anyone who answers my questions!

Armyof1.....welcome!!! Don't be shy......*flower* I apply my monistat straight from.the tube with my fingers. (I apply mine this way, because I give myself.an awesome scalp massage while.doing so. This way, I get to do 2 treatments at once!!)

Then I leave my hair down for a bit. If I do it in the morning, I do my other activities, then whirl it into an updo for the day. If I do it at night....same scenario. I apply....leave it a bit....then put on my nightcap or bun/braid for the night. Its never heavy enough on my scalp to affect my longer hair. I have never noticed any dryness from it. Hope this helps. *puppy*

I do it at night before I go to sleep. I only put it on my scalp, so my scalp hair is dry by morning. It doesn't dry out my hair. I just braid it before bed and it's peachy by morning. I use mn diluted in water.

Hmm, I thought I posted when I started to use Monistat but oh well. From january 8th until february 8th I got a measly 1 cm growth. I know this because I coloured my hair on the 8th and I am always shocked that my hair grows so ridiculously slow. I think that is my normal growth rate, maybe I get a little more in the summer if I'm lucky (my hair is curly so it's pretty hard to measure). Arghh.. Anyways, I had used Monistat before but I didn't really measure very well so I only had a vague feeling that it was working.

So, I started using Monistat on february 8th (starting with 1 cm regrowth) and 10 days later I already had 2 cm regrowth!! Today, on the 8th of march, I have 3!!! That means my hair has had double growth this month. I guess I have to take into consideration that normal growth is 2.5 cm per two month so I only got 0.5 cm more than the average but still, for me this is huge!!!! YAY!!!! I'm so happy, I might make it to waist after all!

I apply undiluted Daktarin on dry hair pretty much every day (I missed maybe 2-3 days in a month). I work out a lot so I need to shower pretty much every day. And the added bonus is a really good scalp massage. :) It does get my hair a little bit greasy so I don't apply it to my side part but everywhere else. It washes out just fine with WO, which I do most days.

I will keep on doing it next month to check if it was a freaky coincidence or if I can really keep getting this growth rate! That would be amazing. :D I really don't feel that it's a hassle to do it at all. Partly because I am so excited that it might be working that I almost long to apply it (while crazily whispering waist, waist, WAIST! :P) but also because I would've given myself a scalp massage anyways to encourage blood flow. I find it quite relaxing. I just part my hair at 2 cm intervals and rub it in with my fingertips where the scalp is exposed. Doesn't take long at all.

Hi Long Hair Bear, thank you for your reply! I have one more question for you ladies. When I was younger I used to get really bad migraines, and over the last year and a half they have become a lot more infrequent (i have had only two over the last year). I started using monistat about two weeks ago, diluted, and didn't have any type of negative reaction. However, I had a horrible migraine today for the first time in months. The last time I applied monistat was on Wednesday morning (3 days go) and I haven't washed my hair since. From what I've read, the people who got migraines from monistat got them shortly after applying it to the scalp. The only other thing that could have triggered my migraine today was the fact that I was hungry in the morning but didn't have time to eat breakfast before class. Now, I don't know whether it was monistat that triggered my migraine, or whether it was just a coincidence that after not having a migraine for months, a few days after I apply monistat that I get a migraine. What do you guys think? It just really baffled me because I eat healthy, I exercise, I get enough sleep...the only thing that changed was that now I put monistat in my hair. But wednesday was the last time I used it. I'm just really confused. Please let me know your opinions, because now I don't know if I should continue using monistat.

I don't get migranes, but I have IBS, which is also a psychosomatic condition inextricably linked to mental state. From my understanding, these conditions are similar in that everyone has unique individual triggers, and one day one thing will cause symptoms to flare up, and the next day it won't.

You know all of your personal triggers better than anyone. My guess is that if it was not the monistat alone, it was a combination of triggers (not eating brakfast + monistat) or the mental association you may have of monistat with your fear of your migranes causing a self-fulfilling prophecy.

If you don't want to stop completely, maybe you could use the monistat less frequently, or leave it on for less, so that you can see if it is causing you a problem or not? If you have it on for less time, your worries about getting a migraine might not be allowed to build up so much.

Wow. Monistat is working really well for me. I had reached APL by end of December 2011. I started using Monistat about a month ago, and I went from barely past APL to almost BSL. I have wavy hair and the longest hairs are already BSL when wet. When dry, it already touches the top of the bra strap. Only 1/2 inch to go! But stretched out, it's past the bottom of the bra strap!

I also had a problem with hair loss in the past. While it slowed down with the help of supplementation, the Monistat has further decreased the number of hairs I shed, and I am noticing more sticky-uppy hairs that I am assuming are shorter hairs that are growing. Finally! The part also looks less wide.

Armyof1,

I too, am a migraine sufferer (since childhood) and I was so fearful that Monistat would be a problem for me with this, as well. I have not had one single migraine from this....I suspect that it was the combo of.things already suggested (sorry y'all, I'm on my phone and can't go back to see who that was to give proper.credit). Not eating for too long will get me every time. In fact, when I first started Monistat......I literally "waited" for a migraine to appear.....from.all of the reading I had done, I just 'knew'I would get one from it. Nope, no ma'am....nada!!

That all being said....you know yourself and your triggers better than anyone. If it were me, and since you had applied the Monistat several days before hand.....I would try it again.....but that's just me. Let us know hot itbturms out for you, we do care.

Hi everyone! I've gotten myself a tube of Daktarin (strangely Monistat requires prescription over here) that I diluted with demineralized water + 2 drops of avocado oil. I put it on my roots just like SuicidesEve mentioned in her tutorial.

I have a question though. Has anybody kept it overnight and further observed more facial hair growing?

hi everyone :) I've been lurking on this site for a while and I finally decided to join. I started the monistat challenge on february 15. The results were not immediate but I continued to use and measure. My hair texture is 3c/4a. I keep my hair in plaits and when I measured on 3-7-12 my hair was 28 1/4". I measured again today 3-12-12 because I noticed the growth and my hair is 28 1/2". I'm very excited, but to be sure, I'm going to continue my daily monistat usage and measure again in another 5 days to check my progress. I will keep everyone posted on the results. At one point in my life, I had hip length hair but due to chemicals my hair suffered tremendous damage. I have been chemical free for 2 years now and praying to reach hip length again.

Its been a week - I can see some layers have grown a tad and my hair is def not as greasy as it used to be. I can also "feel it" grow, as in, knowing it's being oxygenated and alive. Its a good feeling.

I can't really measure my hair but I take pics and I can tell it's different from last week. But I could be hallucinating....;)

Hi All! I've been lurking here for a little while. After spending more of yesterday than I care to admit reading this forum, I decided to give it a go!

I've been growing my hair out for almost 3 years now after making the mistake of going blonde and frying my hair. Hopefully this works, I'd like to get my hair to my waist. I'm starting out with 4% MN, about 1 inch diluted in one oz of water. So far no itching or headaches. Gonna try to use it three times a week. I was able to CO all of yesterday's MN out no problem this morning.

Daktarin didn't help me with the growth rate. I'm happy though ;) It was really not nice to use and while I'm really desperate to make my hair grow faster I would still be using it if it had helped me :P

Castor oil, BB brush massage and scalp tonic - this is what works for me :D

Happy growing :toast:

I'm going to try this. Bought a Swedish brand of athlete's foot cream with 2% Miconazole Nitrate. I have been a member of LHC for a long time and my hair has always grown at a steady rate of 0.5" a month. I am curious to see if this could speed up growth for me. Today is March 21st and I have just measured my hair and it's 62 cm or 24.4 inches long today. I will measure again in one month exactly to see if there are any results. My plan is to apply it undiluted when my hair is wet after being washed. I plan to apply after ever wash which is every 3-4 days. I'll be back in a month and share my results.
