I just wanted to share the hair-related videos of a Youtuber called Katherine Sewing. Most of her videos are about sewing, but she recently posted some videos about growing long hair using historical haircare techniques and they're worth checking out. She has beautiful hip-length hair and apparently she's a member here, but I don't know her username. Here's one:
https://youtu.be/k-2YxqGiI54

She explains her haircare routine and gives lots of tips, but the most interesting part to me was when she said that historical hairstyles for long hair commonly involved sectioning the hair in front of the ears and putting it up separately from the rest of the hair, which relieves tension on those front hairs near the hairline and prevents traction alopecia. It reminded me of a video by Abby Cox about how the "mullet" was history's most popular hairstyle (lol): https://youtu.be/GdJ10UBa6oE

Anyway, I've been putting my hair up like that more often lately and it's so much more comfortable, and my hair's not even that heavy yet. I cut some face-framing layers recently so I'm able to let some tendrils just hang down, or I can pin them up or braid and pin them. It feels like I stumbled on this amazing hack, and I was wondering why I never thought of doing that before, especially since it was done so much in the past. So I wanted to share that particular tip with you all, and her videos in general.

Haven't checked it out yet, but that's interesting about sectioning to relieve tension on the front hairs. One thing I noticed while watching Vanessa Haartraum's videos is that she has bangs and I imagine with her incredibly thick heavy hair that's part of the reason. It totally makes sense.

Section hair into four braids for scalp washing she says? :hmm: I only ever do one and the resulting tangles are Not Fun... She may be on to something there!

It's more work for me and I'm not sure if it'll be as easy to distribute shampoo over my scalp with the sectioning, but I'm curious. I'll try even just two braids next weekend and see if it helps.

There was a thread about one of her videos recently. I tried plaiting my hair before washing, as she said she got that tip from LHC, and it has made a huge difference. My hair only needs one plait, it isn’t very thick! As long as I do it loose enough that I can wash my scalp properly, I can virtually eliminate tangles. It’s a game changer for me. I do this for a full wash, not a scalp only wash, as my hair is MBL and most of it would get wet doing a scalp wash anyway!

I'm looking forward to my hair being long enough to braid and scalp wash. It sounds like it would make life so much easier.

Oh yeah, this is her, right? https://youtube.com/@haartraum
I like her channel too. Yes, I'm sure a lot of the super long hairs who have bangs do so for more than just aesthetic reasons, especially the ones with thicker hair.

Posting more than once a week is a *chore* and a full-time thing, so people with a 9 to 5 next to it... I mean it's no wonder. What can you expect?

Way to be realistic and take away from my whining. I know it's a lot but there aren't enough good videos of long hair so I just want more.

LOL; sorry. I get like that. I sometimes tend to forget people want to load off.

I’m a long time subscriber of Anna, she’s had surgeries over the past year and was busy at the farm, and her interest shifts to Genz recently, so her update schedule became erratic.

I’m a hair youtuber myself and it’s really not feasible to do regular video update with a full-time job and illness (in my case, all the family got covid, my dad got chemo side effects, etc). I’m lucky to have filmed a lot of footage last year but even now it’s quite a burden to edit and make captions for them, especially the English part, I found myself sometimes unable to speak another language. Long Covid’s brain fog is real.

I didn't realize that she's had surgeries. I'm only a recent subscriber and I've been binging her videos. I love her hair.
