Hi all,

Not sure how many people will still remember me - I used to be a lot more active however life has got busy! I missed my 5 year anniversary so 5.5 year it is - January 2017 until now :) For those interested - So much has changed over the years but my determination (and sometimes neglect of) growing my hair has resulted in the longest my hair has ever been and now mostly natural colour, now at knee length! In the last year I've had a wedding, very difficult pregnancy with hyperemesis gravidarum which reduced me to barely functioning day to day, the birth of my beautiful daughter Sadie (whom I fully blame for missing the ends of my hair either side, my god the grip that girl has). I was previously hearing impaired from birth however was able to function with hearing aids however have recently had sudden profound deafness in both ears - so my world is currently silent as hearing aids are no longer working! I'm currently desperately trying to learn British Sign Language with my husband and raise my 3 month old daughter. It's been a lot!

On to the hair bits -

My 4 year anniversary thread is here with all previous pics: https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=153712&p=3855606#post3855606

I started my journey on LHC with mid back length hair and I can hardly believe I've made it to knee. I think my initial goal was Classic length - and I honestly didn't expect to get that far. Here is a photo taken I believe at the end of 2016 which prompted me to start growing my hair healthily - it was the longest my hair had ever been at the time, although heavily bleach damaged - but someone had commented on its length and I was so happy about it! The me in that picture would hardly believe where I am now in my growth journey!

Here is a picture pre-LHC with a few strands of hair juuust at the tip of tailbone. As you can see, the ends of my hair even now are fuller (if also with chunks taken out I still attribute to baby hands!).

Following this picture I decided to get it cut to get rid of the worst of the bleach damage - however I also didn't realise it was bleach damage and re-bleached it again (sigh) so here is a picture of post-cut and bleach January 2017 to now, August 2022.

Lastly, here is a picture of my yearly progress from January 2017 until now :) I hope that these pics show that it isn't impossible to reach your dreams!

My current plan is to get cochlear implants (Which is incredibly scary and somehow I'm worried and so upset about them having to shave some hair to put the implant in after how long I've worked to grow this - I feel a little silly to be so upset by it but I'm hoping it will only be a bit). Every time I reach my new goal I keep thinking - well - I reached it... why not go further?

So as of now I am planning to keep growing with maybe a trim to even it up at some point - with the current goal being to grow out the last of the dye eventually with small trims (Dye is now at tailbone length - 5 years of growth in a picture!). Now I've seen myself with knee length hair... well my next goal has to be solid knee length with a straight hemline ;) Ultimately? I want to figure out the longest I can go whilst still having a hemline that I'm happy with!

So on that note - any predictions on how long you guys reckon my terminal length may be?

Happy to answer any questions!

It’s lovely to see you here Jas! Congratulations on your wedding and the birth of your daughter. I hope you can go ahead with the cochlea implants. Any loss of hair will be worth it, your hair will grow back :grouphug:

Your dedication to growing out the dye has always been inspiring. Your hair looks fantastic.

I remember you and your gorgeous hair, it's not that long ago when I thought about you when reading around here, so it was great to hear an update. Big congratulations for your wedding and baby!!! : grouphug:

I hope your implants work as planned! Hair grows. So some of yours will be shorter for a while. Annoying, but not really a *problem*. It's one of the ways you're paying to hear your DD speaking, singing, laughing.

Hair looks great! :)

Wow! I am growing out bleach and coming up on 2 years in a few months. I love seeing the difference year to year of the bleached parts growing downward. Definitely inspiring! Your current hair is beautiful, congrats on reaching knee length! :flower:

That all sounds like such a scary ordeal. Your fears and grief are completely valid, even about the hair: it's a part of who we are. I hope you have strong supports around you and that everything goes well, the surgery and learning a new language!

And congratulations on reaching knee, that's a fantastic accomplishment :flower: I'd guess you still have a while to go before terminal, especially as you're still getting rid of the last of your bleach. I hope you keep us updated!

Jas, first congratulations on your wedding and your little girl Sadie! So sad to hear it was a challenging pregnancy.

I know kids with implants not adults, but my advice? Get yourself a great surgeon, research research research. An uncle of mine had a surgery totally go bust as the doctor wasn't knowledgeable enough (later turned out). Man, it was a major ordeal.

Your hair looks great!

Happy anniversary! And congrats on getting through that difficult birth. I hope you find some resolution to your hearing problems <3 I've been hard of hearing my whole life and really wish I had gotten the opportunity to learn to sign when I was younger.
