I came across some short films from the 1950s on YouTube today. I was originally going to post links in the retro hairstyles thread, but there’s at least one that I think everyone will like!

There is a thread about very long hair in art, including films.

Many of the British Pathé films are not about long hair, but show techniques that were used decades ago, including how to use updos to balance a face or head shape, and adding temporary flashes of colour. These don’t really fit into the other thread, which is why I started a new one.

I liked this film showing how ladies matched the colour of their hair to their outfit. It’s not that far removed from colourful extensions that are used today, but it surprises me to see it in use 70 years ago! I shouldn’t be surprised, because this is the generation of ladies who dyed their grey hair every shade of pastel under the sun when they got older, and they used to be quite flamboyant with make up back then too.

Ah wow! In that case yes it’s a total duplication :) Thank you for finding it!

I’ve never seen that thread. My Dad died a few days before it was posted so I wasn’t really around here then. It’s good to know other people like this stuff!
