Help me identify this bun!

Howdy LHC friends, I was playing around with my hair last night and came up with a new-to-me bun! Since everything has been done before, can anyone identify it?
I've uploaded an example of how I do it to YT because explaining how a bun works with text is impossible.

I find it holds really well and is great for my length, I also enjoy how wide it is. If I do it slightly looser and right up the top of my head it gets even more width real-estate and kind of reminds me of a croissant :p

I don’t know what it is - I’ve been going through the description of different buns the last few weeks and haven’t come across that yet. It reminds me a bit of the link bun when I didn’t make it properly… it I don’t think that will help you.

However - what I did want to say is that it sets of your sleek and shiny hair beautifully. Keep doing it, whatever it’s called!

It seems similar to a L infinity bun. Here's (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-eWgtPF9a7c) one tutorial video on that, but I'm sure you can find others. Yours isn't wrapped quite the same way as hers. I think yours feels more natural to how my hands want to move. I'm going to practice it some more. (And maybe not try to secure it with a too-short pencil. :silly: )

Ooooooh yeah alrighty, that does seem super similar, I'll have to do a comparison of what they look like once my hair dries! Also this seems like a bun I'd actually be able to do on my hair length, I find most buns mentioned need a little extra length than what I'm working with at the moment.

Thanks Sarahlabyrinth! Another vote for the L-infinity, seems we may have cracked the case. I've got to get out there more to find additional buns, can't believe I'd never seen a video about the l-infinity before!

I hadn't heard about the L-infinity bun either and I'm excited to try it out as well.

Huh, I'd always thought the L-finity was twisted not wrapped. So I've been doing this bun and calling it an unnecessarily complicated name :laugh: ah well, live and learn! Looks great on you illicitlizard :D

Well that's amusing :laugh: glad this thread elucidated that for you, L-finity is despite the lack of twisting :p

I did some experimenting, this is as good as I could get the L-finity to look, I have short fingers so holding the hair for that thumb wrap was insanely difficult! The resulting bun is more secure than the vid I posted above, especially in the nape hairs - I think having slightly more length would help in forming the bun the proper way.

The way I'd done it originally above seems to be "backwards", as I loop around the thumb first which adds extra security for the wrapping portion. But it seems to add some slack in the loops by doing it this way, as it consistently results in a looser more "romantic" updo. Plus the bun itself is back to front, the front section fold over on the opposite diagonal if that makes sense! Otherwise, it looks like this is absolutely an L-infinity bun :o Thanks to everyone who suggested it!

I agree its just wrapped thumb first instead of index finger, You could call it a reverse L-infinity. It is lovely I am going to try it.

Yeah! That is a good way of explaining it, basically just reversed :) I hope you share your thoughts when you try it!
