Since my hair was still clean from Monday, we agreed that she would flat iron it and cut it dry. Here is the result:

Look at all the hair I lost!

Although she couldn't have been nicer or more sensitive to my intention to grow longer, I came away feeling that I'd wasted $60 and could do it myself in the future (as I've been doing for 2 years). On the way home I stopped at Sally's and bought clarifying shampoo and new sharp haircutting scissors.

For what its worth, I think it looks nice and I like the face framing layers.

My last haircut in a salon was like this. The hairdresser took a fine toothed comb and combed my hair from root to tip. I bought myself some scissors and have been trimming myself since then. The cut does look very lovely on you, though!

Good decision, spidermom, that and you invented the "spidermom method", right? I totally understand wanting to get pampered, but $60 worth? I can pamper myself. LOL ;) I know exactly what you mean.

Well, at least the stylist listened to you... There's that!

I think it looks great!

Indeed; she did a good job blending those grown-out bangs into the length.

In Spite of your disappointment it does look very good. =)
Besides your hair grows fast.

No matter what the length, wavy or straight, your hair is still epic in my eyes.

Your hair is so pretty, Spidermom. I don't believe I have ever seen a "not pretty" photo of your hair. The straight look is awesome and so shiny! Whenever I go to the salon they ask to straighten my hair and I say sure, what the heck, it's a fun change.

I agree. Every day would be a problem, but I don't think once in awhile by a professional is going to cause a lot of damage.

IDK about that, they are not mindful of heat and how high they put the temperature. Key is to get the client out of the chair *fast* and that usually means they put everything on high, very high!

Looks lovely Spidermom! They flow like silk and the cut looks very flattering! It doesn't look like you lost too much length.

As a person who does 99% of her hair-stuff at home, from cutting to dyeing, I understand the price shock ;)
However, I think it may be a fair price (depending on area and such) considering all the expenses: shop rent, insurance, even plain sanification.
My hairdresser has a fairly expensive machine to sterilize the scissors, just like a dentist would, in order to kill all bacteria and viruses (including HIV and Hep B and C), and dozens of spare scissors because she always needs a clean pair. If you live in a decent-sized city 60 $ is not necessarily unreasonable for styling + cut.

I don't think I've seen your hair in a while, spidermom; it's so beautiful wavy and straight :)

I don’t think you waisted a penny. You found someone you can trust and that’s worth a lot. I’ve never seen your hair straight. It looks amazing!

I also think your hair looks great. :)

I think, because we rarely go to the hairdressers, the prices can come a bit of a shock. However, it’s a nice change to be pampered, once in a while. :D

Please give up your secrets spidermom, I swear it seems no time since you got you hair cut to collarbone or was it APL? Your hair is just lovely.

Your hair is so beautiful! This is exactly why I stopped going 4 or 5 years ago now. They always cut off way too much. I do the bring your hair to the front and I put it in a book to make sure I cut it evenly. I think that's your method you started on here!

I did get it cut to collarbone in 2015 or 2016. It does seem to grow pretty fast. I have no secrets about that.

It always is an awful feeling when they cut more than what was agreed upon. Is why i never go to hair saloons anymore...

The hairdresser did such a nice job. Didn’t cut too much off, just a trim. How refreshing. I also would think $60 was high, but considering all the hair you have, and that she did NOT cut more than you wanted her too, it’s probably fair.

The more I think about it and live with this haircut, the more I agree. I'm impressed that she got it to flow so nicely by removing so little.

When I read the title and then saw the pictures I didnt know if the post was going to contain positive or negative comments about your experience.

The title implied a not so great experience, but your hair looks so good I thought it might of gone the other way.

The title is kind of a joke. So many have complained so bitterly about how stylists never listen and always cut too much. My stylist listened carefully and cut even less than expected.

When I first saw the title and saw who posted it I was like "what???" because I know you have been happy with hairstylists and have had good experiences and offer your perspective in many threads that hairdressers aren't evil. So yes your title being a joke makes sense!

Also, your hair looks amazing! She did a great job, and your hair is looking so good at this length.

Own experience? I cut shorter pieces, longer pieces, cut my hair ever since I was 15 years old. You really do not need to remove a lot to be OK again with your hair. Half an inch to an inch can do *wonders* yeah, it really can!

Which is why whenever people post about wanting to cut their hair, I always go, try an inch maybe or even less, couple cm or so, and you'll see it will be so different already. I doubt people *ever* believe me, though, so thank you for adding to that conversation. LOL ;) :p

I missed the sarcasm too lol :waving: I'm glad she had a good experience with the hair dresser. I'm permanently scarred though and will only cut my own lol like lapushka says a little goes a long way.
