Calling all wearers of head wear!

Whether it’s a beanie keeping your head warm in winter, a wide brimmed sun hat in the warmer months, or even a protective hard hat on the building site - how do you wear your hair under your head gear? Take a pic, and share some hattish inspiration :queen:

My school requires staff to wear sun protection when outdoors, so I wear hats often and am always looking for new ways of wearing my hair under my hats. Here’s a pic of one of the few times I wore my hair loose (a rare occurrence in summer...it’s just too warm!)

Ok I tried to edit my post to add my pic but it wouldn’t let me, so apologies for another post.

I know it’s not a hat but here’s my bun friendly alternative this morning. Please excuse the state of the bun, it’s my sleep one and I’d just come back from a dog walk :p

Absolutely! I reckon this should be for all forms of head coverings :) Personally I’d love more ideas for head scarves - it’s not something I’ve really tried. So, snoods, buffs, scarves...even wedding veils. Bring them on!

Thanks! I always reckon the key to looking good in a hat is loving what you’re wearing

That is perfect - headwear with a high bun is never easy and ears must be kept warm! And gosh - I wish my sleep buns looked as neat as yours!

I thought that this thread was just for scarves, but turns out it was for all type of head coverings. https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=151560&highlight=hair+scarves

Does hat counts as head coverings or should we keep the threads separated?

PeonyBlue That looks so cool :)

Feral That's 100% my winter head wear :)

Eastbound&Down That's pretty! Is it a headband or does it cover the entire head?

Hm, my instinct is that hats are somehow different than scarves and other cloth coverings? I think maybe having a brim to deal with. (Of course knit hats blur the line). It may be useful to keep them separate.

I don't know if my beanie with a whole counts as a hat, but I have meant to post this pic somewhere here since this autumn when I knitted it. It's almost the only hat I had used this winter, and the yarn reflects light, so it's a bit extra safety too.

^ I agree, and think they should be separate.

And here's my baseball cap bun:

It doesn't have the same amount of sun protection as a hat with a brim all the way around, but when I do my bun through the back it certainly won't be blown away by the wind. :p

Good find! I searched for “hats” and “hat hair” before I made my thread...and of course “head covering” didn’t come up in the search. Might be worth keeping the threads separate unless there’s a way to bring it up n search with a “hats” search?

I’ll leave this one up to the mods :)

I love how baseball caps make room for hair at the back AND stop it blowing away...why don’t I own any? Love it with the bun, BTW.

I haven't worn a "hat" since I was first growing out my hair pre-ponytail length. I found baseball caps extremely damaging. But I do derive benefit from head covering.

@Feral I love it!!! I made myself an ear warmer in February and it helped a lot... but now I'm tempted to make one like @Suortuva because the little bun hole is so cute, and it looks like it'd keep the whole head warm! Guys is it too late to do some winter knitting when we're in spring, lol! :knit:

A mythical beast :D The design on this tapestry is actually 3D. I'm very familiar with stereograms from grad school but I don't understand the technique used by this image. With the special glasses the design literally leaps right out at you!

Oh thank you! Originally when I purchased that yarn, I was planning to use it for someone else, but then I changed my plans. Those are not my typical colours at all.

And then I get a bit excited about knitting, so I knitted matching leg warmers, pulse warmes, neck warmer, butt warmer and a scrunchie. Lol.

ooooh I like it too! So trippy. Would love to see the 3d effect.
I've nevcer had luck with stereograms :(
I remember them being super popular when I was younger, but could never make out the hidden images...
I tried staring at it till things blur, tried slowing bringing it towards or away from your face, looking at a point past it instead,
HOURS were spent on every technique I could find, and they just don't work for me. Total bummer.
Anyone else have problems with them?

That’s so weird, and cool. Only this week I was talking to someone at work about those. I could totally do it, and quite fancy revisiting.

My dad had these self made magnifiers, like binoculars but for looking at fossils. I think it was good training as you had to refocus your eyes to make sense of it...

Yes, tricking your brain to merge the standard twin diagrams angularly displaced from one another to "see" 3D molecular structure was a necessary skill in my former field (protein crystallography). It took me a long time to learn how to do it (without aide).

While the print on my textile doesn't appear double in any way to my naked eyes there MUST be two images to see with the glasses. I'm thinking 3D effect arises from some kind of invisible printing using polarization which the glasses enable you to see but I don't really know. However it works, being very striking, it's a cool effect but glasses are definitely required.

My summer outfit :sun: :inlove:
I just got this hat, but I already love it so, so much. We've had our first hot days and I love that I can use it without having to redo my bun (like with a baseball cap). It's more of a visor really, but my hair doesn't have a parting when I wear it like this, so my scalp should be okay.
