View Full Version : How do my fellow longhairs deal with flyaways?

I have slightly wavy waist-length hair and lately I have had a lot of flyaways happening when I do my buns. I am growing out quite a bit of old breakage from when I used to wear tight ponytails with hair elastics all the time  which has resulted in a lot of short pieces of hair around my face. I have a major antipathy towards hairspray and refuse to use it. I have a pomade that I use from time to time but really all it does is grease the tiny hairs and they stick up after 10 min. Pinning doesn't take care of all the tiny pieces. Oddly enough body lotion works, but I'm sure it's not good for hair.

So what do you do for those little flyaways?

I don't have a flyaway problem but i have heard of aloe vera gel being used to tame them.

I let them fly.

Yep, I let them fly; but counter that with wearing head coverings any time I’m doing stuff (pretty much all the time) which protects them from weather, wind, temperatures (fire, oven etc etc) and stops them from getting all dry, that’s when I don’t like them. But it’s not their fault.

1) Let them fly.
2) Gel or some sort of styling aid.
3) Tie a silk scarf around my head for as long as I can before going out, then remove it. Any kind of scarf can work, but silk will not dry out the hair.

I detest gunk on my hair so if it's windy and I have to be out, bobby pins. Ugly but effective. Otherwise I just ignore flyaways.

My entire face is framed with naturally chin length hair that doesn't grow. I also let it fly free. And when it's windy and it gets blown in my face a lot I use some sort of wrap or hat.

I have a million of them too! Wash day is the worst but day 2 and beyond I can usually wipe them directionally with my bun with a little bit of watery conditioner spray. I’d like to experiment with flax seed gel too... I hear good things but have never tried it

Short answer: I don't

Long answer: if I really have to (e.g. if they're really annoying me and I can't stop sweeping them back with my hand, or if they're getting stuck in sun cream) then a fabric headband. But it looks really stupid on me, even if I wear a pretty one I just look awful* so it really is a last resort for me.

*I don't on the whole care too much about how I look or what people think of me, but I honestly don't feel like myself with hair so completely slicked back because I naturally have wispies to somewhat frame my face and slightly soften the egg look, and a headband is just not my style

I have tons of fly aways/regrowth due to me losing a ton of hair after a major surgery. I just ignore them and either put my hair up or I just don't wash my hair for several days and they smooth out from my hair getting a bit oily.

I also don't really care what others think much about me, the way I see it, it gives me a lot of volume

I mostly ignore them. If they bug me too much I use a little aloe vera gel to smooth them down.

I embrace them...I consider them my halo...especially in certain lighting!

Sometimes I give them a bit of a watering to encourage ringlets and maybe a drop of oil to help keep the curlies clumping.

I have just learned to live with them.
