Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knew of any good sulphate free shampoo's and silicone free conditioners that I can buy in the UK please? a lot of the websites that pop up on google are American.
I'm currently using herbal essence sulphate free shampoo as it's the only one I can see in the drugstore shops (supermarket!) and Alberto balsam conditioner (silicone free apparently and £1) - I was wondering if there is anything better out there that other people use and recommend for us UK based people :)

Thanks!

Oh hello, this is right up my street!

A very much non-comprehensive, not guaranteed to be up-to-date list of conditioners (so check the ingredients just to make sure):
Inecto
Suma
Faith in Nature
Liz Earle
Mother Nature's Goodies
Classikool
Pure Nuff Stuff
Organic Shop (organic-shop.de but stocked in Tesco apparently)
Naturallythinking.com
Rawliving.eu
Thesoapkitchen.co.uk
A'kin
Noughty
Kind Natured
Shea Moisture
The Body Shop
Urtekram
Dr Organic
Love Beauty and Planet
Avalon Organics
Neal's Yard
Korres
Sukin
Cantu
Shea Moisture
Maui Moisture
Garnier Ultimate Blends - some conditioners (check ingredients)
Garnier Hair Food masks, Hair Food conditioners

Other UK websites to try:
Waitrose
Bodykind.co.uk
Biggreensmile.com
Greenpeople.co.uk
Boots.com
LoveLula.com

Sulphate-free shampoos I'm not so aware of because my scalp doesn't tolerate many even of those, especially when cocamidopropyl betaine is the main surfactant.
Dr Organic
Liz Earle
Noughty
Shea Moisture
Cantu
A'kin
Jason
Bright Earth soapnut shampoo (from rawliving.eu)

Some brands in the conditioner list definitely didn't do do sulphate-free shampoos last time I checked, including Faith in Nature, Urtekram, Garnier, Inecto.

... yeah, my knowledge is a bit pitiful there. I'll have to take note of other suggestions from this thread!

Edit: I can recommend Garnier and Faith in Nature conditioners (the others I've not tried, although some are waiting their turn in my stash!). My cheap HG conditioner is Macadamia Oil conditioner from pound/cheapie shops, 400ml in a black bottle with silver decoration. It contains one water-soluble silicone in the bottom half of the ingredients list. Also Dr Organic shampoo.

WOW! thank you so much. I have been eyeballing the Dr. organics range online as I have a holland and barrett near me but wasn't too sure if my thoughts were correct. I'm slowly learning about ingredients :) thank you so much, you have helped so much!

Urtekram does not have SL(E)S though, if that is what OP means by sulfate-free. It can be hard to distinguish, but I always thought sulfate free meant free of the harsher sulfates. Maybe the term sulfate-mild is a better one.

Amazing, MusicalSpoons, I've saved this list for my own use!

I use Faith In Nature conditioners and love them. My favourite is the blueberry one, with a delicious scent.

Couple of shops to add if you're shopping online:
Funky Soap Shop: (funkysoapshop.com)
Sells liquid shampoo, shampoo bars, "shampoo cubes", liquid conditioners, solid conditioners, masks, rinses (my favourite is cider vinegar mixed with chamomile tea). One of my favourite things about this company is that you can buy certain products in refillable containers, which you can post back to them for refills. I also use their face balm and household soap. I'm glad I gave up online shopping for Lent because just browsing their website is very tempting!

Amphora Aromatics (amphora-aromatics.com)
My favourite seller of essential oils and associated things. Some of their shampoos have sodium coco-sulphate and some don't. All the conditioners I've looked at are silicone-free, but the ingredients differ so do check. I haven't tried their shampoo and conditioner, but I love their whipped shea butter balms and the francincense & rose face cream (which is a better and much cheaper version of the Neals Yard one in my opinion). Again, check the ingredients for all products because some of their skincare products have silicones (which I hate on my skin!) or alcohol (which I don't personally mind as much).

I'm also using the herbal essences bio:renew sulfate free one for the same reason!! It was the only sulfate free one I could find that wasn't ridiculously expensive. I wasn't too sure on the OGX ones as I don't like coconut and a lot of their shampoos seemed to have protein which my hair doesn't tolerate well. I have eyed up dr organics too but I have a few shampoos (my sulfate free and sulfate ones) to use up first!

I use garnier ultimate blends hair food for conditioner. They are silicone free. I use the banana and shea one but I believe the rest are silicone free too. It lasts me quite a while and there was a sale on at boots last I saw. https://www.boots.com/garnier-ultimate-blends-hair-food-banana-3-in-1-dry-hair-mask-treatment-390ml-10261179

(In store there was a sale - doesn't seem to be on their website though). It's on sale around other websites I can see. I think you can buy them in most supermarkets as well.

Lush UK has sulfate-free co-washes. I can't attest to how good they are, though (Lush products are pretty hit-or-miss for me, and quite expensive; I use them as aromatherapy first and foremost).
