If you see a picture of a hairstyle and you can’t figure out how it is done, put it here!

I’ll start: How would you do something like the updo on this album cover? https://images.app.goo.gl/4qhzbu6PLC2WRGxU7

It looks like some kind of French twist held with a hair stick?

I actually remember this updo, heres the link: https://www.allthingshair.com/en-us/hairstyles-haircuts/vintage-hairstyles/how-to-do-a-french-twist/

Fair warning, it does say to tease the hair, and the style is don't on APL hair (about), so your hair might be tricky

Thank you! That’s a really cool way to do a French twist but yeah- I have way too much hair. I have to do a log roll type thing to wear a twist. I was just curious as to how the woman on the album is wearing here but I see now.

French twist was the hairstyle of the month (https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=56895) back in 2010.

I tried it awhile ago with a stick and my head looks malformed, like an oblong alien skull

There are many ways to form a French twist, and I've tried them all. In fact I've tried a few ways not even mentioned here. The result always looks pretty -- for about 1.5 seconds. I've concluded that not all hair accommodates all styles.

The picture from the original post seems to show two twists vertically aligned, or if it's only one, an uneven tension or perhaps some strands that didn't get placed quite right before anchoring. But I guess that could just be the shadow obscuring things.

The second method in that video is how I do it except I hold it with pins. It stays all day in my hair. I’ll have to try it with a stick!
