Alright, so as the title suggests i'm look for some hair shears to continue my s&d as well as regular trims. I've been using a pair of scissors that came with a hair cutting kit however quality just isn't there as I feel they just aren't sharp enough and instead are fraying my ends rather than cutting them clean off. So suggestions for shears that aren't too expensive but will do a more proper job. Also what to look for as in length of blade and metals used and brands? Thanks

Expensive means different things to different people. What price range works for you?

I got mine from amazon in the uk for about £9. They’re really sharp and high quality, I think it’s a good price for a good pair of scissors.

I'm actually in Canada. And to clarify "inexpensive" I mean $100 or less in canadian or US dollars, I should of made that more clear from the beginning.

I could give you a huge list of good scissors for $100 or less!

For now, I'll just suggest these https://www.amazon.com/Equinox-Professional-Shears-Razor-Edge/dp/B00KVYBY8M/ref=sr_1_5?_encoding=UTF8&c=ts&dchild=1&keywords=Hair+Cutting+Shears&qid=1612885953&s=beauty&sr=1-5&ts_id=3006300011

I keep two pairs around the house (one for myself and one for my dog) I have coarse hair which can be rough on scissors but these are almost as the more expensive ones I used when I cut hair daily.

Plus, they are a good length and are well balance weight wise. :)

ETA: that link looked weird. Let me know if it doesn't work. Oh, and I'm in the US... hopefully they are an option for you still.

Oh! Just a tip but if you want to keep your blades as sharp as possible I cannot stress enough how important it is to dry them off thoroughly after cutting wet hair. I even oil mine prior to cutting as well as after cleaning them. It helps keep the metal from oxidizing over time while being stored.

I have heard and continue to hear good things about the Mane Choice shears, but there are warnings on them that places are selling this set of fake ones; be careful where you get them, if you get them. I seem to not be able to see them on the site anymore, so I'm not linking them. But you can probably look them up.

I don't know if you can get the brand Ultron in Canada. It's available in Belgium and The Netherlands, and for 50 euro you have a nice set of Japanese steel blade shears, be sure it's Japanese steel (razor sharp, and I know, I cut myself a couple times now).

Other than that there's Jaguar for a brand and those are nice, but might be a tad expensive.

Alright, thanks everyone! That should be enough to help get me started and great tip jane_marie I never would of thought of oiling them or drying well enough.

I would at least spend 50 on a pair of scissors. Not that I'm trying to break your budget or mess with that, but I had cheaper scissors too and they weren't sharp at all. I would 1/ go with a good brand 2/then see what the best price is. If you can get Ultron in the UK, I would go with that. They are an "entry level" pro-shear (they only do those, I think) but they are great! Japanese steel (for real) and razor sharp.

I am on my 2nd pair after 10+ years, and the first pair is still good for S&D!

It also reduces wear on the blades when using them
