View Full Version : The Growing to Floor Length Club

Bat
January 22nd, 2021, 07:17 AM
This Probably could be merged Into the terminal thread but I wanted to make a specific club for this. I can't be the only one wanting floor length hair! Come join me if you are aiming for floor or already have floor length hair, a hangout if you will, let's be motivated!

I also will make a poll ( it's a multi choice poll!)
Where your starting point is or there is this mini
Questionnaire

What is your Starting Length in Inches/Centimetres?

What body marker are you at

How Many Inches/Centimetres is floor on you

If you know your growth rate how many years do you think it will take to reach floor?

Will you be Trimming or not Trimming?

What made you decide to grow to Floor?

MY starting point was 8 inches long, the body marker where I'm at now is MBL almost to WL. The number of inches that floor length is on me is 63 inches. Well, my growth rate is a half a centimeter per month. So, I think it will take me 8 years for me to reach floor length from where i'm at today. Will you be Trimming or not Trimming? Well, it depends on if my hair really needs it. But mainly no I won't be doing too much trimming so that I can retain the length. What made you decide to grow to floor? Well, as a kid at my old church I saw this girl with very thick floor length hair, and it was always beautiful every Sunday when I saw her. Over a period of time we've become really good friends too. She has been my inspiration ever since!

I didn't ever really decide to grow to floor length, so much as I decided to go for terminal (probably when I was about knee length). Then after quite a few years at floor+ but still slowly growing, I decided I'd had enough of the whole experience and cut back up to mid-calf, where I no longer stepped on my hair even when braided. It was a fun experiment, but since my June 2019 cut, I've gotten back to floor twice (by spring 2020, and again now when wet) and mannnn is it annoying accidentally stepping on my hair again sometimes when I'm washing it. I'll get around to trimming back to calf somewhere when I have time to think about it!

Dark40
January 22nd, 2021, 11:40 AM
I really don't think I want to actually want it dragging the floor either. Because, of stepping on it when it's dry and when washing it while it's wet. I think I will be maintaining it with the ends or tips being right touching the floor. Like, what "Crystal Gayle," does with hers. She always keeps hers trimmed up to the floor so she doesn't accidently step on it.

I'm aiming for floor! (not terminal)

What is your Starting Length in Inches/Centimetres?

My true starting length: 27" ~BSL
Currently: 61.5"? My tape measure is too short now

What body marker are you at

Mid-calf

How Many Inches/Centimetres is floor on you

71"

If you know your growth rate how many years do you think it will take to reach floor?

At least 2 years if I continue to trim.

Will you be Trimming or not Trimming?

I'll be trimming; I'm still cutting out damage and maintaining my hemline.

What made you decide to grow to Floor?

I want to grow as long as possible with a blunt hemline, and barring any genetic limitations, I think floor is my final goal.

MY starting point was 8 inches long, the body marker where I'm at now is MBL almost to WL. The number of inches that floor length is on me is 63 inches. Well, my growth rate is 1.5 inches per month. I'd love to grow 1.5cm a month better than my 1cm

I might end up cutting back to ankle if I get to floor plus but I want to experience floor length once in my life

I have absolutely no business on this thread....ha ha....never be able to hit that long...nor have the guts to be a guy with hair that long if it even grew that lengthy...but it did catch my eye.

One question:

Currently: 61.5"? My tape measure is too short now

Ms LL, do I need to send you a longer tape measure? I own several for my home projects....lol

Yeah, I know what you mean. I wanted to make a correction on the monthly hair growth rate. It's 2cm or 1 inch a month including taking vitamin supplements. I really wish that it was 1.5 inches too! Yeah, I bet that would be better than your 1cm

Yes, I don't blame you for wanting to experience the feeling of having floor length hair once in your life too! You only live once. I want to experience hair touching the floor just once too, and then trimming back to ankle length as well!

What is your Starting Length in Inches/Centimetres?
Well, bald, but now at 5 inches.

What body marker are you at
Longest points are mid neck.

How Many Inches/Centimetres is floor on you
64"

If you know your growth rate how many years do you think it will take to reach floor?
Approx 6 years. Right now I'm at about .80" per month. But obviously, with the season cycles and such, I expect it to change here and there.

Will you be Trimming or not Trimming?
Not trimming. My hair tends to do pretty well with no trims, as I keep it up almost constantly and lightly oil daily, once it's long enough.

What made you decide to grow to Floor?
I had my hair at tailbone, and due to thyroid issues had severe thinning so I shaved it all off. Since then, I've gotten a dermatologist involved, and my hair is growing in so much thicker. Besides, I'm not getting any younger. I'd like to have floor length by the time I hit 45!

What is your Starting Length in Inches/Centimetres?
12 inches.

What body marker are you at?
A tiny bit past the shoulders.

How Many Inches/Centimetres is floor on you
I don't understand this question.

If you know your growth rate how many years do you think it will take to reach floor?
With my hair type, I don't know if I will even reach past classic even if floor is a dream/goal. I have very fine hair that tends towards tapering as it grows out. If I don't trim, it stops growing at almost classic.
So this is a challenge to see if I could just do it with proper care this time. I don't exactly have a fast growth rate. It hovers around average. And it would take at least until over 35 years old for me.

Will you be Trimming or not Trimming?
Trimming for sure.

What made you decide to grow to Floor?
I've seen it happen on others. And I'm resentful that some hair types and genetics just doesn't allow this for everyone. And it's simply a challenge to see if I can overcome genetics.

Well, the reason why I compare my hair to my friend's is because we have the same hair type and texture. It doesn't disappointment me if mine doesn't grow that long. If it doesn't I would be happy if it grows close to floor length! Yes, when I saw her hair every week it motivated me or inspired me to grow mine that long. Who knows? Starting Length in Inches/Centimetres?
35" when I really decided to go super long.

What body marker are you at
Tailbone + just shy of classic was mid thigh but needed a trim hated to lose the length. 44"

How Many Inches/Centimetres is floor on you
70-72"

If you know your growth rate how many years do you think it will take to reach floor?
5 to 10 years?

Will you be Trimming or not Trimming?
Small trims along the way to keep it thicker even hemline.

What made you decide to grow to Floor? After seeing it and how cool it looks I love it but have doubts I can get it that long. Knee would be awesome but anything past that even better ankle floor♡

that would have been Lady Godiva for sure, although there may have been others. she had very fine tangly hair, but she took such good care of it, and it was relatively full....as fine does not equal not full...just the individual hair quality, no matter how much of it there is. She hasn't been around in a while, but there should be pictures here and there from a while ago.

I wish Lady Godiva was still around more. She had gorgeous hair for sure. I'm jealous of all those with fine hair and no taper. I always have more taper at TB than people like Godiva and Ashley have at floor.

What an interesting thread, and even more interesting, Bat started it :)
So I was googling "floor length hair" to see what Google thinks of it (to compare it with LHC) and I have not found much - but this thread popped up there, among pretty scarce results otherwise. And I found out that a lady in my country apparently had her hair recorded in a national Guinness record book (not the world, just national) with 170 cm hair, and I was like *challenge accepted, move aside girrrl* (just joking of course).

What is your Starting Length in Inches/Centimeters?
Around 80+ cm now.
What body marker are you at?
Beyond hip length.
How Many Inches/Centimeters is floor on you?
Assuming it is measured from hairline, itīs about 195 cm or more.
If you know your growth rate, how many years do you think it will take to reach floor?
My rate is 1,5 cm a month, so letīs see: (195-80) : 1,5 : 12 = 6 years 4 months 16 days from now.
Will you be Trimming or not Trimming?
Mostly not trimming.
What made you decide to grow to Floor?
I havenīt decided to grow to the floor. I am growing as long as it will go and as long as it keeps me happy. But floor is very special, and to dream of it is nice. I am in awe of every member of LHC who reached it.

Probably the reason why is that is not very popular. Many fewer than 1 in a million reach it.

What is your Starting Length in Inches/Centimeters?
18 inches/~46cm

What body marker are you at?
Between shoulder and APL

How Many Inches/Centimeters is floor on you?
66 inches/~168cm

If you know your growth rate how many years do you think it will take to reach floor?
Oh my lord, I grow maybe 0.5-0.75 inches a month. 66-18 inches = 48 more inches to go from when I started (a little less now that I've been growing for several months now). 12 months x 0.625 inches (average growth) = 7.5 inches in a year

(x years/48 inches) = (1 year/7.5 inches)
x years = (1 year/7.5 inches) x 48 inches
x years = 0.133 year x 48
x years = 6.4 years

so if I keep at it and don't cut the bottom of my mullet off, I'll get to floor in 6.4 years.. maybe even 7-8 years cause my hair is curly and I was being somewhat generous with the growth average. If that is the case, I'll possibly reach floor in 2030?

48in / 6in per year = 8 years

Will you be Trimming or not Trimming?
I'll probably just trim my bangs for now, but I don't plan to trim anything else. just S&D

What made you decide to grow to Floor?
I have always loved long hair but my mental health wasn't stable enough to maintain longer hair so I kept cutting. Now that I have some stability, I want to see how far I can grow! I thing long floor length hair is gorgeous on others and I hope that I enjoy my curls just as long too! I'm definitely going to go terminal and see if I actually can reach floor and beyond length.

What is your Starting Length in Inches/Centimetres?
Here on LHC, I first measured from my scalp to end at 92cm last August. But I stopped trimming before the pandemic after a blunt cut at APL/BSL.

What body marker are you at
Fingertip

How Many Inches/Centimetres is floor on you
170cm maybe

If you know your growth rate how many years do you think it will take to reach floor?
I grew 15cm over the past year, that’s 1.25cm per month, I’m now at 106-7cm, so it will take me another 51 months, and that is 4.2 years.

Will you be Trimming or not Trimming?
I am a no-trimmer, but I might maintain my hemline at knee for a thicker, even line for a while before I go on.

What made you decide to grow to Floor?
I want to test my gene limits to see where my terminal length is at, probably pass the floor.

I'm not really actively growing to floor now but I am giving up scissors so if I get to floor length so be it!

Probably the reason why is that is not very popular. Many fewer than 1 in a million reach it.

I'm not sure I saw this thread when it was first posted, or if I did maybe I wasn't actually going for floor at that point anyway. I can try to answer retrospectively though :)

What was your Starting Length in Inches/Centimetres?
I decided to go for terminal or ankle when I was calf length, and started to entertain the possibility that terminal might be after floor length when I was around lower calf, so 60-odd inches, maybe 64/65"? I'd have to trawl back through my posts to find exactly when I decided to give floor a go though.

What body marker were you at
Lower calf

How Many Inches/Centimetres is floor on you
70" [according to the tape measure. But my hair is 71" now and the flippy extremely thin ends means it doesn't always look floor length! I have trodden on it in the shower with my head straight though which is what convinced me I was actually there.]

If you know your growth rate how many years did you think it will take to reach floor?
I thought it would take me anywhere between a year to two years, depending on whether my growth slowed down or stalled because I was already nearing terminal length and didn't know if I could get to ankle let alone floor. I'm not sure how long it took in the end, as I don't know exactly when I decided to try for floor.

Will you be Trimming or not Trimming?
I intended to probably trim a little at the turn of the years. I didn't do that but did have to cut off a massive knot after ankle length the first time which set me back by nearly a year I think.

What made you decide to grow to Floor?
LHC-itis, I guess, and just to see if I could, whether my terminal was before or after it. But I have to say that with my ends so extremely thin, extra length at that point was making absolutely no difference to the handling of it aside from wrapping a few more times when finishing a bun. If my hair were heavier or with less taper and fuller ends, I may well have felt differently and reached my limit long before that.

I originally never dreamed I'd reach knee or calf but then when calf became reality I started to entertain the possibility of ankle, and mayyyyyybe beyond if I didn't hit terminal first ... and then after I reached ankle the first time I still didn't really think it would be possible, I really thought my terminal might be between ankle and floor. I think the second time I reached ankle was when I genuinely thought it could be possible and really knew I wanted to get there. That was the first time I felt I'd be slightly disappointed if I didn't quite make it

Yep--definitely a great read! Since I'm likely going to terminal length, it will be exciting to actually see (via the info from this article) the increasing rarity of reaching each milestone. I think though that hair length is a little bit longer now over than it was 20 years ago when the article was published. I also have to think if there could be some bias in the sampling of the people since they were attending an amusement park (would attendees either have longer or shorter than normal hair overall--though they address age range issue) and even a bias based on different parts of the US (Florida, which would probably attract a lot of people from farther north along the East Coast). Geographically, it's hard to determine bias for hair length without statistics, except for a few exceptions like Colorado, which definitely has longer hair than the US average for both men and women (based on my experiences--I spend a lot of time there). Actually, could Floridians have shorter hair due to the heat and humidity making people be more likely to go shorter with hair? If these stats are out there, they would be fun to see, whether they're state or country-based stats.

I read the entire paper, and yes, I think it is a little outdated. But I know it takes a lot of work and possibly money to make a good study, and Iīm not sure who would undertake anything like that today. I think that samples would have to be more accurate and representative, and not just for the US but the whole world. And I definitely think there are way more people nowadays with unusually long hair - if nothing else, they jump at me every time I open instagram. Especially in India - now that everyone has social media, the world can see that there are countless ladies with floor+ length over there. Also many long hair models and ordinary folks with classic, knee and beyond hair, all over the world. I like this trend of growing beyond what is considered "normal", it is so inspirational.

Instagram, LHC and the like, provide only a self-selected sample which isn't really representative of the real world at large. Reliably estimating extremes is always statistically very difficult.

That's right about India--lots of very long hair there. In fact, a good reminder--Sikhs, at least those who are observant, never cut any of their hair, male or female (the males usually keep their hair in a turban), though Sikhs are a distinct minority in India (less than 2% with many in Punjab).

One could possibly do a survey based on Google Street View images (faces are often blurred but usually not the hair). However, in either colder climates where hats are more likely to be worn or climates with a lot of sun, especially in hot weather, where hats or other head coverings are used, the results could be skewed. Of course, buns, turbans and other ways to keep hair more compact on the head are likely to be used in some cultures more than others, which would also skew the results.

That is true, good point. But I feel like there are many more long-hairs out there now than at the time of when the study was conducted, regardless of statistics. We would need a national yearly hair survey for every nation, as Brandt once suggested in the Random Thread :D

Ah yes, I thought about that too- imagine how much hair is covered all over the world - think about Muslim countries, I donīt think that all ladies over there cover pixies and bobs under their scarves... And China, there is at least one minority over there, I think women from that tribe hold the world record? Saw a video about them somewhere, they too never cut their hair and wash it with rice water.

What is your Starting Length in Inches/Centimetres?
54 inches, I think? It was right when I started here...

What body marker are you at
Calf *excited*

How Many Inches/Centimetres is floor on you
I don't know how to calculate this right now...Does it go from hairline? Or just height? Is telling my height bad?

If you know your growth rate how many years do you think it will take to reach floor?
I don't know my growth rate...I don't know much...

Will you be Trimming or not Trimming?
I oh-I-forget-the-word...I cut off split ends when I notice them and when I'm stressed...Search and Destroy! That was the word!

What made you decide to grow to Floor?
I saw everyone's picture on LHC and my hair started growing past my knee. For the longest time I thought I was terminal at knee. After a little over a year on LHC, I know a lot more ways to take care of my hair and now it seems that floor might actually be possible *very excited* I saw the Victorian hair pictures, too...and the world record holders, too! ...but I didn't think it was possible for me back then.

Good luck, everyone!

What is your Starting Length in Inches/Centimeters?

31 inches (top to hip)

What body marker are you at?

Hip

How Many Inches/Centimeters is floor on you?

69 inches (top to floor)

If you know your growth rate how many years do you think it will take to reach floor?

6.3 years

Will you be Trimming or not Trimming?

Yes, after I reach classic length I plan to trim my ends every 6 months.

What made you decide to grow to Floor?

My hair texture made me want it, my curls shrink so much that the weight helps with detangling and styling, plus I think floor length is magical:o .

What is your Starting Length in Inches/Centimetres?
I don't really know. It was knee...maybe I can find it in my profile. I think it was 50 something inches...?

What body marker are you at
I was at knee when I thought I'd try for floor. It didn't seem possible then as my growth stopped at knee before I chopped it off to shoulder a while ago. I figured it'd stop at the same place, but this time it hasn't.

How Many Inches/Centimetres is floor on you
So that would be my height? I guess 5'3" (63 inches)
or 160cm!

If you know your growth rate how many years do you think it will take to reach floor?
Have no idea. I just hope it doesn't stop growing again...

Will you be Trimming or not Trimming?
No trimming, just Search and Destroy when I feel OCD.

What made you decide to grow to Floor?
There was hope that it might actually happen this time :) ...oh, is the smiley police going to get me again?!

Oh! I answered this already (is it age or the aftereffects of Covid? I'm getting older as I type...aaaahhhh!)! And Bat answered! Oh well, I have one new answer since he did.
