Does anybody else like to explore hairstyles on YouTube and attempt to recreate them on yourself? I've been doing this off and on for years, and some of my attempts have been hilarious. I thought we might entertain each other with our attempts.

This morning's attempt: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oSqkgWs9pfI

My hair is not long enough to go around my head so I made a braided nape bun instead. Here is my result:

O.k., not perfect, but I'm going to say ....
I nailed it!

Come on LHCers - play this game with me.

I love it! I don't have enough hair yet but I'll be watching this thread for ideas I can use down the road😊

I look at hairstyles then think no way can I do that :justy:

Your braided nape bun looks very good! :)

Cool idea for a thread, spidermom! And I love the nape style, well there you go, found a new style!

That is absolutely gorgeous spidermom.

I mostly look at buns that are mentioned here on LHC to see if I am able to do them with my length. I am quite sure I don’t have the patience for anything fancier. But I will watch this thread.

It looks really pretty, spidermom!
It's been a while since I've attempted any new styles but I'll be sure to post here next time I do. :)

Oh, I know! I love how soft it is around the face. I twirled the straying tendrils around damp fingers, and they curled. It looks so romantic!

There was a thread a few years ago with failed hairstyle pictures. I love it. When I'm on my desktop, I'll have to dig up a picture of my Christmas hair fail.

I love this hair style! Yes, I always come across hairstyles I can't do. Or, my hair isn't long enough for them.

Off center, lumpy, bumpy; clearly failed it. I added ribbons to my rope braids because I wanted to tie off with ribbon instead of a poly-band. I think I need more length for this one. After taking the photo, I took this horror down and went back to yesterday's nape bun.

I am on a mission to find new ways to wear my hair. Over the past 2 years, I mostly lived in a version of the french twist held by a Ficarre or fake-arre. I ended up with thousands of very bad splits - some looked like feathers - as well as multiple white dots near the ends and sometimes as far up as 4-5 inches from the end of nearly every hair. I think my hair may be too fragile to be held by metal teeth. I've made it to barely brushing hip length and am determined to take much better care of my hair (and my hips!) over the next year/s.

That looks really good on you. It’s not what I’d call lumpy either... you should see my attempt at braiding!

I like watching intricate hairstyle tutorials and not even attempting them because they look too hard lol

I wanted to have ribbons in my hair for Christmas. This attempt not only is lumpy but pulled and just hurt. https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=44031&d=1610327007

Eventually, I redid that bun and got this one that looked much better, even if you couldn't see the ribbons as much.

I recently tried the brioche bun and was super excited to nail it on the first try. Then I made the mistake of trying to redo it so it was more on center. I haven't been able to make it since.:justy: But here is the one and only successful try.

Spidermom le sigh - I ALWAYS love your hair... it's just so lovely! I'm with you on the metal teeth. Off to find something new to try!

Shorty89: well done attempts on beautiful hair. Thanks for sharing.

I am on a mission to wash my hair less often in hopes that I will get less damage. I've been in this pattern for years: my hair starts to look oily on the third day after washing, counted like this 0-1-2-3, and it's a real oil slick on day 4. Therefore, I've usually washed on day 3 or 4. Right now I am hoping that my scalp will adjust to an every 5-day schedule. In the meantime, day 4 calls for a sleek, neat bun.

You can skip the first 48 seconds while she straightens her hair.

And I did this:

Hmmmmm ... semi-nailed it? It doesn't look as structured and pretty as the video. Also, it doesn't feel secure. I think I'm going to have to redo it at some point, when it starts unbunning itself. My hair is good at that. But I think it's pretty good and will get better with practice.

I love the french twist but I can't/won't use a clip with metal teeth to hold it anymore (trying to mitigate damage). Enter a new method:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_46Q7IADhnM

I didn't curl my hair. I did use the last of my Oribe texture spray (sample can). I didn't use a hair-tie to stabilize the ends but tied a simple knot instead. I did use roller pins.
First attempt ......................................... Second attempt

Nailed it! I think the second attempt is pretty good for a new method. If I were going to an event, I'd try to end up with fewer fly-aways, but for a stay-at-home comfortable style, it feels pretty good.
