My year of hair

I thought I'd share my variety of hair lengths this year! I hope my links work.

I started 2020 with this length, something like BCL or tailbone.

Then, due to that cut being crooked (maybe my curls fault), and also wanting to learn to cut my own hair, I ended up doing FIVE trims this year between these pics and my current final pic. 🤣 I kept trying different methods and didn't stop till I found a way I was happy with. So anyway here is my end of 2020 hair after a very cutty year.

I'm doing no trimming first half of 2021, or maybe the whole year, so I should be around hip length by 2022.

Amazing progress, those curls are beautiful. What made you cut most of the length off the first time?

Thanks! I just hated it. Lol it was driving me crazy and I wasn't in the mood for it anymore. I really like growing it out, I don't like maintaining.

Thank you! Well, I kind of want to grow longer than before, but my limiting factor is that I hate updos. I have a very tender scalp, also headache prone, I don't like the way they look on me, and my curl pattern is ruined after I do one, until I wash again. So I will grow as long as can without getting frustrated with it. :)

I have the same problem with updos and headaches when my hair is long. Hence this latest short cut. Good luck with your hair goals! I hope you keep us updated along the way!

I absolutely LOVE your hair in your signature. My hair is a little too curly to do a blunt bob, it turns out round even if it's cut blunt. Idk how to explain it but it doesn't look quite right lol. But I love curly blunt bobs so much.

Oh thank you so much! I always have fantasies about blunt bobs and then they don't end up as great on me as I was hoping. I miss having length and its hard to keep the curls intact on my fine hair for more than a day with it so short. I hope to have my hair your current length one day.

Wow! Your hair and curls are simply beautiful! I love your curls! I see that since the cut you have made lots of progress too! Your hair grows pretty fast! Mine does too! Yeah, I'm like you....I also hate updos too, and I get headaches from them at times. Do you know what your hair type is? What's your goal length?

Thank you! I think overall I'm mostly 3a. Mixture of fine and course. As for a goal, I like the idea of growing it longer than before, but I'll just see when I want to stop. :)

Thanks! I've never measured my growth rate, but for one thing, I have a short torso, and also scoliosis making it even more compressed, so visually it gets to new milestones really fast, and it might not be growing that fast.

I do know that if I measure 6 inches to see what length it should be in a year, that's always been about right. So I guess with some curl shrinkage it may be growing a little fast. But a lot of my curls do a twisty dread-type thing, rather than a big spiral that causes a lot of bounce and shrinkage.

No wonder you prefer to chop rather than maintain, you'll probably be back where you were again by next December :rolling:

I also have a tender scalp and I'm really sensitive to weight on my neck, so I might end up living in braids instead of updos, and growing as long as that will allow me.
I had a friend in highschool that had hair a lot like mine, but didn't take that great of care of her hair. She always wore it braided or down, wasn't careful at all, still managed to grow to classic.
If she could reach my goal, with all of that considered, I probably can too because I baby my hair lol.

Thanks! Hmm maybe it does grow fast. I'd track it if there was an easy and accurate way, but I feel like it would be hard to get the same circumstances every time. 🤔 Anyway I'm just happy it's growing along. :)
