I have this trick to make a bigger bun volume, but I'm wondering if it hurts the ends of my hair. This is what I do:

I comb my hair upside down, then tip it back and make a bun with minimal twisting, in this way I end up with a really big bun. If I do a normal bun it just becomes a regular size.
But since I often get bend ends in my hair, I wonder if this method is the cause of these.

That depends on how carefully you're brushing and securing the bun. If the ends aren't tucked just right the ends can bend, and brushing upside down can cause tangles (at least, it can for me.) :)

I don't think it's the loose bun that does it but that the ends might not be tucked in right. I wear loose buns all the time. Also you can do them without brushing upside down. Just don't twist or not as much anyway.

Probably the way I tuck in the ends. But I'm very careful now!

Keeping my hair in a bun is the best way to keep it safe. Even in a braid or ponytail, which I wear both these quite a bit, my hair gets tangled at the nape of my neck.
