Hey! I just applied the argan oil my mom bought for me to my hair. After I applied it, I read "for cooking only" in small letters on the bottle. Whoops mom, you must have missed that! Anyway, it's too late in my time zone to shower so I can't wash the oil out tonight. I was wondering, could the cooking oil harm my hair?

If you can ingest it, I sincerely doubt it can harm your hair!
The first few oils I used were cooking oils

If anything, it's probably higher quality than a non-culinary oil. Go right ahead.

Almost definitely, but be more cautious using hair oils in your cuisine :misskim:

Exactly. In fact, I used to make sure to buy my coconut oil, almond oil, etc. from the cooking section, as it was usually cheaper than getting it from the beauty section...
If you read the ingredients and all that is in it is the oil, I'd say you're probably fine. I can't think of anything they would do to oil for cooking that would hurt hair?

My fav oil for prepoo is olive oil, straight from the kitchen, and it has never broken off all at once xD
In all seriousness, no problem!

Heck yes you can! I've been known to use butter or ghee as a pre wash treatment and have great results. I know a number of people use coconut oil intended for cooking as well.

You totally can! It's probably going to be a bit more aromatic than cosmetic-grade argan oil but that's not an issue for your hair

Hi Loveletters !
Cooking argan oil is usually made out of roasted argan nuts and has a much stronger smell. I don't think it will harm your hair in any way though, but it can make you smell like you have been eating some fried food, lol. Same for sesame seeds : if you take the Asian cooking one, it smell ultra strong because seeds are roasted. So it's always better to check if the oil is crude (and virgin) before applying. ;)
