Hi Guys,
A little Back story, I posted on here a while ago after years of lurking , I decided to bleach my hair and finally signed up for support. I went ghost because moving and my 2 year old keeps me busy.
Im back to babble.
I was a few inches past waist with natural level 5 from about BSL up, and old color on the ends colored to my natural color, I lifted to a level 9-10 over a few sessions, I had minimal breakage because I used olaplex as I am a professional, and I have access to products that not just anyone can buy. I still decided to slowly cut back to BSL and hope to grow back to waist while maintaining blonde.
Anyway, I love Vaseline for my skin, lips, diaper rash, cuts, scrapes. My favorite dermatologist on youtube says its completely safe, cheap skin protectant thats been around forever.
From my understanding its occlusive so it prevents water loss from the skin, and blocks everything else protecting the skin.
A few months ago I got curios if it would do the same for my hair, I decided to apply a small amount on damp hair after my moisturizers and leave ins, I normally use JBCO in this way. I also started applying to my front hairline because my baby hairs are fragile and prone to breakage. They stick out every witch way now because I did have some breakage there, they never really grew in long or thick anyway. After a few months my hairline seems thicker.
A lot of hair products are petrolatum based but are formulated with colors and fragrance for no reason.
It came out fine for me with a heavy CO, and shampoo if I feel like it needs it.
Btw I have 2c/3a hair thats fairly thick and dense.
Long story I know, Sorry guys, I just wanted to share my new experience.
Share your experiences please good or bad .

I like it for my skin. A lot of pharmacy skin products use it as it's very non-irritating, as far as I've understood.
Non-professionals have had access to all Olaplex products for quite a while now as well. :)

Hi! I can’t say I’ve used Vaseline on my hair or face. Its main ingredient is petrol and I’d prefer to use something a bit more natural. You’re right that it is occlusive and forms a barrier, so unlike more natural plant oils and waxes it will lock moisture in more. If it works for you then there’s no reason not to use it, just make sure it’s on clean hair / skin as it will lock anything in, including dirt :-)

I remember there was a thread about baseline in hair. Or it was discussed in one thread anyways. There was a member who really loved it in her hair. So I tried it too, but it really wasn't for me.

I think it's like putting baby oil/mineral oil on your hair. It's roughly the same, except the texture. There's a whole thread on mineral oil, and you either love or hate it. That'll be the case with putting vaseline on your hair as well I guess.

Me too but like you say, if it works then go for it.

Mineral oil (baby oil) is used here in oil rinses (by me). I am using a different oil right now, but have used up a whole bottle of baby oil on oil rinses (not all at once, of course LOL). 10 drops max. will do. Less is more with this.
Way back when Madora on here used it as a conditioning agent. She had massively long hair (was it knee, or beyond?) and used a couple drops on the lengths.
That's it... you don't need much. I only use 10 drops max. for my oil rinses.
I love it for my skin as well; and my own dermatologist, as well as Dr Dray here on YT says there's absolutely nothing wrong with it (as long as you use it as as sealant).
The Nivea blue tin is a staple in my routine, as a day and night moisturizer as I have extremely dry facial skin. It contains MO as well and is perfect as I layer my serums and other moisturizers underneath.
There is nothing wrong with MO, at all. It's been on this site for... a long time.
ETA/ I am going to be 48, and I have been using the Nivea blue tin since age 3! Non stop! I have no permanent wrinkles on my face yet. No crow's feet. Nothing. I use it all over. No eye creams (don't believe in them).

A lot of hair products use Vaseline of some sort, petrolatum, as a primary ingredient. The entire line by Softee is basically jars of Vaseline with various stuff added to it.
Softee is wildly popular, and has remained so for decades.
Asquith practically everything, individual results will vary. Which means try it and see whether or not you like it.

Hey, I loveeeeeee vasaline and petroleum jelly!!! I use it for my skin and hair. I mainly use it to do my hot oil treatments. :) I know that sounds gross but it really works my aunt (which is also a professional). She saw my color-treated hair looking dry and brittle one day, and she suggested to me that I start doing hot oil treatments, and it really works just like she told me. It really penetrates the scalp and hair shaft. Giving it down-to-earth moisture. It really moisturizes the hair and scalp like crazy!!! And, it also helps your hair to grow faster and longer too!!! :D

OMG; I once used Vaseline on my hair for a slicked-back, Halloween look. I tried many things, and it finally came out with Dawn dishwashing liquid. Never again! I hate the texture of it anyway.

Yes, for some people it is very hard to get out. I just used a harsh shampoo with sulfates. Like, Alberto VO5 Extra Body Volumizing Shampoo, and it came out very easy.

I love it on my skin. Vaseline is a LOT heavier on hair than just mineral oil, as it is in solid form. Might take you a couple of washes to get off. if you are no-poo, I would highly recommend against it. If you use it perhaps once a week and sulfate wash more than once a week, it might work for you. All I know is that my non-black friends who have used grease-type products (these contain petroleum jelly, the ingredient in Vaseline) have complained of needed SEVERAL washes to get it out. I've noticed this as well and avoid it like the plague.

I imagine finer straighter hair would feel sticky, look stringy and be difficult to remove. I would not recommend for not poo either. I really don't use enough that I have any problems getting it out.

Number one and 2 aren't suppose to be sold for at home use, I know there available online, its probably the real stuff but you just never know.
I would would recommend asking a stylist or beauty school student to buy them for you.
Also can cause side effects if not used properly, like putting in a spray bottle or not diluting properly. Its easy to waist product as well.
And will not deliver the best possible results if directions are not followed

No worries. I'm running a pretty high temp, my mind isn't working right and there are sort of a lot of acronyms around here.
I'm sorry I didn't understand. <3

no. 3 -7 are great for maintenance. 1 and 2 could be too much for repeated frequent use in some people.

It doesn't technically penetrate or soak into the hair at all. It creates a barrier trapping in water that would that would otherwise escape quite easily. causing a lasting moisturizing effect.

I use Vaseline as a last occlusive layer when I sleep. Since I’ve started doing that, I’ve had to be a little more careful when washing my hairline, as it take a a decent amount of shampoo to remove the bits of Vaseline that get transferred. But the texture doesn’t feel greasy so much as just heavier than normal.
Lapushka, I’m excited to try mineral oil in my ROO rotation. I bought a different amla oil, with the first oil listed being mineral oil. Excited to see what my hair thinks! So far I’ve been happiest with sweet almond oil and jojoba oil.

Don't use too much. Start with 4 to 5 drops! No, not kidding. I can use 10, but that is my maximum (almost turns limp status). Granted I only use it on the last 6-8 inches of my hair, so there's that.

Good looking out  I’ve got less hair than you, so all the more reason to start conservatively. Thank you!

How do you do the hot oil with vaseline? Do you shampoo afterward?

You're welcome. It's better to start slow, and then add more if it's OK for you. Good luck with the amla oil. :D

Yes, I would only apply the vaseline to my scalp only, and also only needed to go through one shampooing cycle, and I have relaxed/fine hair. When my hair is relaxed straight it's considered fine but it's really fine/thick. Which means it's fine, and I have a lot of it. But the vaseline only took 2 washings to come out with my fine/thick hair. I love washing/shampooing my hair. So, I don't mind.

Considering that my ex-stylist used them completely wrong on me, I think I'd rather trust myself with the products.
Not that I'm going to repurchase them anymore anyway.

I know there are no rules to hair care but I'm sure putting vaseline on the scalp is probably bad advise for 99% of people. It could seriously clog follicles. Mineral oil, again, is a lot lighter and easier to remove in comparison.

I never apply to scalp other than my front hair line. I love all of those oils as well. This was and experiment. Just though I would share.
