View Full Version : Trying hair typing

Hi!
So after some CGM experiments it was recommended I try hair typing.
Truth be told my hair's only about 90% dry in these pics, but I was walking to a friends house after and I NEEDED to comb it, ha. But I felt it was close enough for a baseline, so, posting.
Anyway, here's the back of my head (which is forever hard to photograph, I've got one pic taken over each shoulder)

And then here's the front of my hair

I think it may be considerablyvwavier than I thought, but I'm still not sure where I fall on the spectrum.
I also think I might try again once I reach APL.
Thanks to all

I think that's 2a, laurab. Especially that first picture is quite wavy!

Oh dang!
So weird.
But like I've said on other threads, my mom, brother, aunt, and grandmother all have/had curly hair. So it makes sense that I have some wave.
Not sure how to handle it though

Agree with 2a

Seems there's a lot of agreement!
I guess it's time for more experimentation.
I've looked up 2A tutorials now. There's not a ton, but I've learned it's called swavy, so that's fun.
I decided to try a texturizing hair cream and a mousse (just some cheap ones, both under $4) to see what that does.
But it's weird. I do think wavy hair is pretty, but I also really like combing my hair  I don't really love the whole not combing in between washes thing I see with curly videos.
But I'll work it out, see what I like.
I think tomorrow I'm gonna do a co-wash and try gel again, see what that does.

I believe the "swavy" name is on the CG method system and 2a there is *far* more wavy than 2a here. :flower:

oooh, that makes sense! Thanks!
I have noticed some varience in how people describe hair types.
I think I'm going completely off book anyway, most videos use products way out of my price range, and I don't have any problem with sulfates or silicones. I also found with my last experiment that my waves held better when I put the gel in dry. They were messy then, but my lesson there is I don't want to put in product while my hair is sopping wet, which most videos seem to recommend.
Time for lots of trial and error!

Oh and mind the whole Devacurl debacle! There are problems with some products of theirs. If not all. :o

The not brushing is mainly for the curly girls to prevent frizz. Your hair is slightly wavy so no worries about brushing it. I’m a brush supporter.

Yep 2a's can get away with brushing. I would be such a poof ball. :o

If I brush my waves, I end up with a mess of frizzy and statics hair. I think it depends a lot by the kind of the waves.

I agree with 2a for now, but your ends seem to want to wurl more so i think you might become wurlier as your hair grows longer. :)

I couldn't quite identify why my thoughts were '2a, but ... ' - this is it. Yes, definitely 2a right now but in six months or a year you might want to do a typing photo again. Mine changed pretty much each year with just a more moisturising routine (and now it's growing in more wavy too) so it can be interesting to see what happens over time with length and tweaks to your routine :)

Thanks for everyones input!
Yeah, I could totally see it changing.
One of the reasons I wanted to do a hair typing was I saw people suggesting it for people on youtube who's hair... poofed at the ends? I'm not sure how to described it. But I was thinking back to high school and how my hair was and I was like huh, maybe that was some wave....
But it was also never really past APL.
Here's a really low quality picture, from back in 2013. Looking at it now, there's probably more wave to it than I thought. I always just credited that to the whole sleeping on it wet thing.

EDIT: Oh also VERY Glad to hear I'll be fine continuing to brush and comb my hair
