I am considering doing feyes self trim straight across method, as my hair is starting to thin at the ends and it is only about bra/nipple length level. Has anyone got any pictures of their hair after using this method, i would really be very interested to see how it looks after the cut. Many thanks

It looks just the way it did before, only a tiny bit shorter and with a neater hemline.

I would really like to see how the ends look when it is cut straight across, for example whether hair bends inwards/outwards/to one side etc etc. I am aware this would vary depending on the hair type however i would just like to see in general what the hemline looks like

My profile pic shot is of the straight across trim, which I had been doing for a year or so at that time.
The cover of my "length shots" album is the U-trim hem, which I am doing now.

I'm curious too, I wonder what it looks like for other people.
This is my hemline, I trim weekly, but due to extreme thinness at the ends it looks more like fairytale ends. I hope to have those gone next year:

Btw for those who wonder why I don't just chop them off: they are handy in updo's :)

There's no such thing as a "general hemline" as all our hair is so different. It's not going to have a bearing on what your hair does after trimming. It's either straight across, v-shaped, u-shaped or fairy tale. It just looks like hair that's been trimmed

I always use this method to trim my hair. My avatar pic is a good example.

It is really, amazingly easy to trim your hair this way, with or without the extra help from elastic bands (my ends from shoulder down are still too thin for elastics). Sometimes I trim the ponytail, then divide it into two, then trim those ponytails, divide them into two and trim, etc.

I have used her method to trim my hair. Pics are on my album. Its difficult if you have short hair. i had some difficulties cutting my hair but i refuse to let anyone else touch my hair as they are very thin....

I use feye's method. Take a look at my length progress album :P.
I went from straight, to V to straight again after monthly trims.

I have trimmed my hair for over a year now with this method. It's kind of hard to do it "right" when your hair is short! I didn't aim for straight across but not for a v-shape either. I have a lot of layers too. You can see the result in my avatar.

Check out Frannyg's siggy. I am always amazed at how even her hair is using this method. I cant seem to get the hang of it.

I have the problem if I trim and put my hair back in the ponytail and do it over again, that the ends are uneven. That actually keeps on happening, I can't seem to get it right. Maybe because the ends are so thin?
When you do this, do you make a parting in hair, or should you brush hair back without a parting (that's what I do, I don't want the front hair to end up too short)

Interesting set of pics! I'm guessing you like straight (blunt) better, since you went back, but I was going to ask what you liked about each.

This was my hair mid September:

Did a Feye's self trim (U hemline) a week ago (also hennaed it). I cut about an inch off to try and slowly even up the layers. I'm looking down a bit in this picture, but the flash makes it where you can really see the difference in the ends.

And here it is with my head held even:

often peoples hair looks different after they have a 'trim', for example last time i got a trim my hair curved in alot at the bottom, it must have been the technique the hairdresser used by cutting it. Im desperately wanting to trim my own hair in a way that doesnt curve in or out, or to result in hair curving to one side, instead just a blunt straight across, thick hemline. (completely flat at the bottom of the hemline)

I've been trimming using Feye's method for several years (starting around the time my hair was BSL).

I use the straight-across trim.

I didn't do the self-trim method, but I had my boyfriend get down on the floor and trim it for me ;)
Here's (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/blog.php?b=39735) the link to the blog update with pics.
The ends do tend to "curve" a bit outward.

I've been trimming straight-across lately, and my latest pic is here (excuse the frizz, bad shampoo :D ) :

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=2603&pictureid=33905
I looked straight ahead of me when pulling the scrunchie down instead of looking toward the floor, which gives the hair just a very slight inverted smile thing going on. On my hair the sides wave more than the back of the hair, so it works out fine for me.

If you find it difficult pulling the scrunchie all the way down without pulling hairs to uneven lengths, you can try only pulling the scrunchie halfway down instead, like this:

http://pics.livejournal.com/challe/pic/00134chz

I have done this lately and it has worked nicely for me, so I'm sticking to this for now. I'm thinking that it should work fine with longer lengths too. Just be gentle when holding the scrunchie, so that no hairs are pulled. Also, make sure to cut the tassle straight across and not at an angle.

When I trim it usually takes an hour, because I redo the steps so many times just to make sure that I'm not missing any strands. Therefore I do mini trims, so that I don't accidentally end up with more length cut off than I intended.

If something sounds unclear, just let me know! :) The easiest method is probably the V-shape, it doesn't involve scrunchies.

Oh, one more thing.

I used to comb all hair back with a middle part when doing the straight-across trim, but lately I have found that it works well with a side part as well. I guess that it depends on if you always wear your hair in the same side part or if you want to change the parts around.

I self trim.
I have posted pic's in my swedish blogg. Probably you don't understand a word of what it's written but I think the pic's bescribe how I do it pretty well.
Her are the link to my post:
http://crazy-nails.blogspot.com/2009/02/dags-att-toppa-haret.html

I did some mistake when I first started self trimming, especially when I split the hair and took it in front of me and tried to make a U-shape. It came out uneven. Now I skip that step and just cut the ponytail and make it a straight shape.

Just bumping this to say I LOVE THIS METHOD! Thank you SOOO much Feye! I finally broke down and tried it after much consideration - I needed to do a serious dusting and it came out SOOO nicely. I did the slight U shape and I am SO thrilled with it. Much happier with the results than spending $40 to have my hair cut shorter than I'd asked. Plus the money I will save!

If youre on the fence about trying it, just DO IT! It works great!!!! :cheese:

I use the straight across method you can see it in my signature, it's so easy and straight forward and it saves me £30 as that's what a decent stylist charges here.

You need to use something like photo bucket and by the ways its free. You then upload you images and once you've done that click on the tab that says share and there is a code copy & paste that For clickable images or full and then people can see your photos in your posts.

You can see in how I have changed my hem line in my length shot album. I use Feye's method. Last time I got a bit reckless and gave myself a hemline that slants to one side. It is in my signature. Unfortunately, it slants down away from the side of my hair that is growing more slowly anyway. :cheese:

I envy those of you who can trim your own hair...I tried for many years but I've sworn off it now because I always end up cutting too much. After I make the first snip it's like the OCD flood gates are wide open and I start making "tiny corrections" to it every other day for weeks, trying to make it perfectly even ...then it's several inches shorter before I know it. I decided to stick to my hair stylist - I have confidence that she makes it even and I don't need to correct it. I just don't have the same confidence when I do it so I end up making too many corrections.

Mine's in my signature. Usually I get it more even than I did this last time, but I wear my hair loose so seldom that nobody's going to notice but me anyway, so I'll just fix it next time I decide I need a trim.

I have used it about three times. A couple of times, I ended up with one piece near the middle of the v or u shape that was about half inch too long. All I did was gather my hair in one ponytail in the back and trim that little bit. Walla, perfection!! I am too lazy tonight for pictures, but it turned out nice and even, I swear ;)

I know I am totally reviving an old thread, but I just tried the U cut with Feye's method and it was easy and it came out really lovely. I was so on the fence of going to a hairdresser, but each time, they end up either cutting in too many layers or a bit too much length. I took the plunge and I am glad I did :) . Picture to follow soon!

I would love to do this method myself as well.. but I am WAY too scared of things going wonky. If I don't center the bands things are going to be lopsided. :/

I'm glad it turned out fine! :D I keep encouraging people to do it, as a hairdresser can take off too much length, and what can you do when following the instructions well? Not that bad, in any case!

If you follow the instructions to a T (print them out if necessary), then it can't go wrong. If you are in doubt, then for your first time, let someone else do that snipping bit (if you trust them). But it should go well, if you don't keep cutting to "even it up". Just one cut is enough.

But, eadwine, you have a lovely hairdresser, so... not a bad one that just chops big chunks off. So... I don't know.

I use this method as well. I won't post pics because I'm a wavy with flippy ends, so you can't see anything anyway... works for me, I just snip, do a quick check in the mirror to confirm its not totally off/crooked, and I'm done. No correcting necessary. I assume it is a bit more involved for straighties.

No, it really isn't. Just position the scrunchies evenly and snip.

Ha, looks like everybody's experience with this is different, regardless of hair type.

I want to try a new experiment next. Do a half up bun. Trim the bottom layer of my hair using feye's method. Then braid that hair off to the side, and undo bun releasing the top sections of my hair. Then do a layered self trim method for the rest. I haven't mustered up the courage to do it yet :o

I was about to chime in with what did and didn't work for me but I just realized how long your hair is, I can definitely see how it would be a lot more difficult to make sure everything was straight and even.

Here's the U-cut (but a very shallow U--I was worried I wouldn't like it, so I didn't try anything too drastic).

Does anybody know if you should part hair in the middle even if you wear a side part daily?

Ok, washed and clarified hair after my trim, but because my hair tends to curl up at the ends, it looks quite uneven when it does its own thing (even though it's not):

http://i987.photobucket.com/albums/ae360/dweamgoil/Trim%20100116_zpsvlabvhrk.jpg

I am quite happy with it and last night I side braided my hair for bed. It was nice to see the braid come out so neat and thick :) Without the quirky curling, the full hemline looks like it looks on the bottom left hand side.

my hair was already in a v shape so I used the u method and only did steps 1 & 2 with soaking wet hair (soaked with condish)
Cut 2 inches off

I'm so happy with how it came out. I have been cutting my own hair for the last decade and have used so many methods but this was by far the fastest and easiest.
