View Full Version : How do you prefer to wear your hair when it's down?

This is a silly question, but I'm actually super curious about it! My hair is on the thin side, so I tend pull most or all of it in front of my shoulders to help disguise this fact a little. I'm wondering if anyone else has a preferred way of positioning their hair when wearing it down.

I don't wear it down any more but when I did I preferred it all behind my shoulders. Not that it ever stayed behind my shoulders, so wearing it up was always easier anyway!
[On the occasion it is down for a few minutes nowadays (not 'wearing' it down, but if my sleep bun has fallen out and I haven't yet detangled or rebunned) I sometimes like having it over one shoulder so I can keep an eye on it and so that I don't sit on it or get it tangled in anything ]

I wear it a few ways, but I chose the most common which is all behind my shoulders. Otherwise, it's either half in front, half behind, or all over one shoulder (and getting in my face).

I voted some in front but most behind. I start out with it all behind me but as I move it always falls over my shoulders. I can't fight the volume so it does whatever it wants lol

I voted all behind my shoulders because that is what I did most recently. When my hair was much shorter ~shoulder-waist it would end up most in back with some in front contained by a headband.

I'm not sure how to answer this. When I wear my hair down, I drape the middle of it over my left shoulder and drape the tail over my right shoulder. Kind of like a loosely draped scarf over your shoulders.

As it grows it's been getting easier to hold it behind my back. I've been basically using it as an indicator of how good my posture is: the more it falls in front of my shoulders, the more attention I must give to my posture.
Either way I like having a bit of both to feel like I'm wearing a little cape :)

It all goes back over the shoulders. It's way too long to hang in front of me. Accidents will happen.
Anyway it's not down for long. Just for night time.

I prefer how it looks when I put all my hair in front of my shoulders, it's like I show it off more. But doing that it's kind of uncomfortable and I get nervous (my hair is all over the place, gets stuck in things, I can't stop touching it...), so at the end I always have all my hair behind my shoulders, resting on my back

My hair's too short right now to do anything besides choose whether or not to tuck it behind my ears, but when it's longer I tend to put it all on one side and in the front so I can keep it away from things.
I have no idea how my preference will change though once it's long enough, it's been quite a while.

I love it all down behind my shoulders. My hair is at the point where I can just barely flip it behind my shoulders before it pops right back in front of them. LOL, if that makes any sense! I can't wait to get back to APL where it'll actually stay behind 'em!

I change between different possitions because I don't sit on my chair when my hair is on my back, rubbing my hair on chair would turn into a mess of split ends. I am careful not to sit on my hair because my hair is a bit beyond classic length. I am careful not to catch my hair in my fingers when I have my hair draped over my shoulders. it's just like with skirts, you definitelly are more careful when you wear a skirt than when you wear pants.

I prefer my hair behind, especially while eating, because it gets in the way and sometimes gets in my mouth

I like to pull mine back, so it doesn't get into things.

I only let my hair loose when I need to rebraid before bed or wash and air dry, that’s behind my shoulder. But for a photoshoot, I’d adjust some hair or all the hair to the front for a more voluminous look. Honestly I don’t let my hair down often enough to have a preference now.

All your hair behind your shoulders, I just let my hair down at home.

Sometimes all behind my back, sometimes all in front of both shoulders, but most of the time it's all in front of one shoulder. I just like that the best. :)

I feel prettiest with all my hair over one shoulder. I also like letting it just flow down my back

When my hair is down I position it over my right shoulder. I have more piercings on my left ear that catch the hair, and they can get shown off that way too. Also, when driving or biking, it is much more likely to need to look over my left shoulder at traffic coming up to my left behind me, so hair is out of the way over my right shoulder whether down or braided. I quickly pulled it back in a scrunchie pony tail today & that is currently over my right shoulder after driving for errands

I let my hair cover my cheeks and frame my face since I have no bangs. I think it looks more feminine that way which is important since I am only like 4 months into MtF transition. I pushed it all behind me when I am eating even though it keeps falling back to the front while I am eating. I voted most in front some in the back.

In front of my shoulders. It's easier to not sit on it.
It may change when it's too hot.

Me too :D
When my hair was shorter, I rarely (or never) wore it plain down, but half-up half-down was my preference. So the length would not fall around my face and forward, but stay in the back.
