Those are so pretty, Sarahlabyrinth! I like how you pair multiple things together. I’ve tended to think of head coverings as singular things, but I really like how they pair with parandas, forks, etc. Now I want to go home and play with pairings!

Sarahlabyrinth

Thank you! I love parandas and see no reason to give them up because of head covering. My grey one is so easy to wear with whatever cover I decide to use. :)

Sarahlabyrinth great styles!
I love partial covering as much as full - you can protect (or hide ;) )your hair and show something fun in the same time. Tried it for las few days and it worked okay.
Combining with paranda is also great, I did it for more bulk in full covering.
Here's what I'm wearing to work (yay for old, dusty papers!).

Thank you, Tinyponies. I also wanted something a little more versatile and less conspicuous - more blendy, that I could wear with anything, so got this:

I'm not one for head coverings except to protect my head from cold/rain/snow.
They all slip off my wispiness unless it is an attached hood :p
Even my crocheted hats must be secured with a large bobby pin...and it still slips a bit

Konfitura, that looks like such a great scarf for wrapping like you could mould it to any shape and it would grip against itself well too.

Yup, that black scarf is quite grippy and stays on pretty well.

Today something new for me - inspired by you girls! Normally I would wrap my head mostly for warmth (pain in ears from cold is no fun ) - and the more layers, the better xD (I even made a joke about it here (https://www.instagram.com/p/B7Ao10AhvkG/)) But it's not great pairing with equally bulky scarf on my neck, can't keep my head straight and... you know, enjoy your pain, honey.
So - lightweight version with my trusty black headband, square scarf and sticks poking out

Thank you both! I have begun covering because I am a Christian, and have gradually come to realise that yes, it is for believers today (here is a good article if anyone is interested:
https://www.ohsweetmercy.com/why-i-wear-a-headcovering/ ) but another good reason to cover is that it is extremely protective for hair - one of the best ways to protect it!

There are so many fun ways to cover, too! :)

Thank you for sharing Sarah. That was interesting. I have begun following the Wrapunzel Ladies on Instagram. I love their scarves and unique ways of wrapping. Of course, I showed them to my DH and it was a BIG NO! Haha. He’s not a fan of my hair either. At some point, I may incorporate a partial covering, as you do, as time goes on for protection. By then, hopefully, people in my real life will be used to all different buns, too. Haha!

Thank you, Vacurlylady! The wide headbands I use can also be worn much less spread out and can just look like an ordinary headband, if you wanted to begin wearing them that way, and they wouldn't look very out of the ordinary. They do give a nice pop of colour too. :) and would get people used to seeing something on your head. They are very comfortable to wear.

I’ve only ever worn a head covering other than a hat or headband-style bandanna once even though I really like the way they look because I only know people covering their hair for specific religious reasons and I don’t want to give a false impression. However, hearing people who cover hear emboldened me! I still don’t have the confidence to do this often (also I only have one scarf), but I love the way it turned out. Shoutout to Tatsuoni whose tutorial I used to do it.

Konfitura, that's a great combination of head and neck scarf, they go so well together. That's something I struggle with sometimes - figuring out a good coordination.

Entangled, that scarf is really pretty. If you're going to have only one so far, that's a really pretty one to have.
I wear *something* on my head for religious reasons, but I like *full* scarves covering everything and not just a band because of their protectiveness. I do sometimes have to deal with people making certain assumptions about me because of that, but it can't really be helped. I do my thing and clarify if confusion becomes apparent.

I feel like I should just take a single shot of my collection of headcoverings in my closet, I have a lot. Far more than hairtoys.

<3 I know it would, I wish I had a photographer to get the shots for me - that would make things much easier.
I don't cover full time, but I do wear some form of cover any time I'm not at home. I ought to cover at home as well because it helps reduce my hairpulling and helps my hair growth/health, but I'm not so good about that.

They do, Konfitura. :) So you can wear them wider, or narrow.

You can wear the one in the above photo narrow, like an ordinary headband, or like you see in the photo, or it even unfolds further to cover your bun as well, so it's like three options in one.

I can see that working really well with the tie anchoring it even more effectively alongside the braids.
Mines sitting a tad funny right now in the bit just above my bun but it hasn’t shifted at all today, and I’m sure it will settle down shape-wise.

Love them, Sarah, and nice job Shaluwm :)

I’m wearing my new headscarf out and about more and more - really it’s so practical and it’s nice to have something to wear that does the job well whilst being very light. I’ve started enjoying wearing my dangle earrings as I feel they give my look a bit more interest and I love the feel of them now that I don’t need to worry about them getting tangled in my hair!

I am wearing my snood today with my hair just loose inside. I love the way it looks and feels and my hair is subjected to no pulling anywhere or the weight of hair toys, yet is gently held and totally protected from wind, tangling etc! It also just has the right amount of "sag" I was hoping for and my hair fills it out just nicely :) I'm chuffed! :D All the protection of a sleep cap but can be worn in public - and no bad hair days. Now I see why they were so popular.

This is the only hat I wear, which would mean the only thing that covers my head. My trusty wool beanie.
So I guess it's a head covering.
I've had it for about ten years now. Because its the only one that seems to fit me right.
But I wear it pretty much all year round.

Oh do I know what you're talking about. It's why all my head coverings are wrappable scarves that I decide how they fit except for two knitted hats that I made myself. It's not worth the literal headache to wear a hat that doesn't fit comfortably. I actually have one hat that I didn't make myself and I think I've worn it... twice? It's just too uncomfortable so I don't choose it hardly at all.

If you've made hats for yourself, then you clearly have a skill that I do not. And one that I sure do wish I had! Because there were times when I thought that I had lost it, misplaced it, and was temporarily kinda devastated. As goofy as that may sound. And actually, going back to Alexandrinas comment, I think I might need to revise my reply in the sense that it IS sentimental, simply because Ive had it for so long.

Ooh so many pretty combinations!

Hexen, I learned how to knit from a book when I was 18 and my mom bought me a basic hat pattern that could be made on straight needles and sewn up the back. I don't have particular skill with it, but I can follow instructions on what to do and make things. It's never too late to try if you're interested.

Tinyponies I guess we're in the large-headed club!

I guess I’m in the right place because I was thinking of searching thrift stores for a satin scarf or two just this morning whilst walking the dog. I have so many halo hairs and baby hairs from pregnancy/nursing/recent miscarriages that I’d like to get in the habit of wearing scarves to protect that new growth around the house and maybe under hats for neighborhood errands and whatnot. Filing all these lovely ideas away for when I find a scarf...

When I was in hospital in 2017, they came and asked me if I had Marfan syndrome, and strongly suggested I take it further and get checked out. I haven’t done that yet, but it would explain quite a few of my skeletal & body quirks.

Er...no? Covering can protect your hair from damage (sun, wind etc.) so in that sense it's a good thing, but it's not going to help with a virus.

Actually, there’s logic to that. Touching and messing with hair if your hands are contaminated is one way to spread it. It’s not the covering so much, but that you don’t touch it. At least, that’s why my father made my sister who’s self quarantining since she came back from abroad right now wear a doctor style scrub hair cover in addition to a mask and gloves before hugging anyone

I read an article (https://www.today.com/style/can-coronavirus-live-hair-here-s-what-experts-want-you-t176524?fbclid=IwAR0z77tlZUcfNCDzpj5hGQWhTkzv5Ov7I Ee36E8QJWz2OhZppbL5vdbZlPo) today (shared on the LHC Facebook group) where some Global Health Dr from Yale recommends washing you hair every day during the Corona crisis to remove any potential virus clinging on, but I suppose if you don't want to do that, you could wear a head cover and wash that instead. Apparently the sebum in har is slightly antimicrobial, and because of hair's porous structure, it's not really a good place for viruses to cling on so no further action was needed.

((Maybe this was discussed in the Corona thread already but I butted out of that one because I felt the tensions got a bit high every now and then.))

I've had this bandana for awhile but only yesterday did I try wearing it in my hair. I managed to find a good way to fold and tie it so that I like the way it looks -- leaving a small bit of hair showing at the front looks better to me (I also left the bun visible at the back). It turns out this is a very practical and stylish way of hiding dirty hair if I haven't gotten a chance to wash it yet. I think I might try to collect some more patterns and colors of bandanas so I can incorporate them more often into my hairstyles. It seems to be pretty secure; I was a bit worried about it slipping back off my head, but I wore it all evening yesterday and didn't have that problem.

eta: I also really liked the way the lighting in this photo happened to turn out.

Not sure if you would consider this a head covering, but I love to wear silk bandanas as hair bands, or braiding them into my hair and twisting it into a bun

Today's scarf braids with a head band in the middle (medieaval/renaissance inspired). It's kinda' a head covering, but different from what I usually do :p

A lady whose house I stayed at last year gave me a few scarves, including a thin blue one with a few beads on either end. I'm using it a lot because it matches a lot of my clothes--in fact, this precise scarf was in the last photo I posted, too ( ; But it feels like a waste to hide the fancy beaded part. I learned the hard way today that leaving one of the beaded ends out at this angle makes me look kind of like a human being, whereas doing it on both sides makes me look more like a dumbo octopus!

How do you have your hair under it? You have the non-lumpy-bumpy, no-huge-mass-of-hair look I've always been striving for with that style of wearing a scarf... (Or maybe it's just due to a difference in head shape... it would definitely not surprise me if my head is just weird.)

Hehe I have a very lumpy head so I feel you :p When I wear this style, I usually loosely French braid my hair and then wrap the braid into a flat disc against my head, a few inches above the nape (in the hollow-ish spot, if that makes sense). I don't pin in place or anything, just hold it down with one hand and the put the scarf over it right away. It helps a lot that my hair isn't super long yet and I have a lot of taper, so even if the little disc comes slightly unwrapped under the scarf, you can't tell visually.

Being gentle with my head today post migraine. Loosely smooshed hair into a bun and stuck a Good Hair Days pin in it, then very gently wrapped this scarf up on both sides from my nape, crossed over at the top and then each side back down its original side. I secured it with tying the very tippy ends of the scarf together at my nape over the first wrap so nothing is pressing on my head anywhere.

Looks like I'm a bit late on the up-take for shaluwm_agape (She closed her account?!), but just throwing it out there for shelomit or anyone else who might have excess:

If anyone has lightweight (because hot summer) but durable scarves (or large enough pieces of scrap fabric, even!) that are stained or otherwise not really suitable for "nice" use anymore, I might be interested. I've been using threadbare decommissioned bed sheet chunks for dirty work, but they're as liable to tear as anything else, when I tie them on my head. I looked at buying some proper scarves or bandanas new, but standard bandanas are too small, most official scarves seem to be very loosely woven so any least catching of a thread would destroy them, and anything new of any type that's large enough looks like it's $15/item at a bare minimum -- which I don't really feel like paying for something I'll likely trash (with stains, at the very least) in short order. So I readily admit I'm being a bit cheap here, and won't be upset if there is no interest. But if you want to give your waste a second life for ideally not much above the cost of postage, I figure it can't hurt to ask!

This is great. I always have those times when I wish I could find something at a thrift store that's stained or ripped, because whatever I'm going to use it for will ruin it and I don't feel like doing that to something that's perfectly good... but I also don't really have that many people I know well enough to put this kind of shout-out to that it won't seem really, really weird.

I have a question that might be appropriate for this thread—I’ve been practicing wearing a couple of different scarf styles, but I’m running into a lot of trouble getting them to stay on my head, especially if I try to leave any hair showing at the front. I think a lot of the problem is that my head is quite small and the back is kind of flat, so I don’t think I have the real estate most people do for the scarf to grip onto.

Does anyone else have this problem or any advice that might help? I haven’t had much luck with Bobby pins, but there’s probably a strategy I’m missing. I was also wondering if maybe there are hairstyles that would help create some bulk?

I just use a couple of the clippy barrettes at the front of my scarf. I'm sure it's not very attractive, but I try to use dark ones or toning with the scarf.

Some headcoverings, to keep clips invisible, will use a little slot (like a buttonhole) or strap underneath to insert the barrettes or hairpins, or sew in one of those wig clips (https://www.headcovers.com/media/catalog/product/cache/ba642c93a0efc71830935b1d4e0de39d/j/u/jumbo-toupee-clips.jpg). That's not quite so doable with scarves, though, since they don't have a definite static edge. You could always get one of the headbands that goes under a wig-- usually either they're elastic with grippy rubber-y stuff, or velvet. (I bought one, then realized that it doesn't work that well for me since I also like to have at least an inch or two of hair showing at the front, and I can't get the headband to sit that way.)

Of course, you could always do what I hear the Amish do-- put a clip barrette in your hair horizontally just behind the front edge of your covering, then take a straight pin and insert it on the edge of the scarf and through your hair and back through the scarf. It's unobtrusive and I think the idea is that any backward slip is arrested by the hidden barrette. (Aha, I found pictures (https://www.amishworkshops.com/how-amish-women-pin-up-hair/) because it's hard to describe-- this tutorial doesn't include the barrette underneath.)

Here's a video with tips as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IpxWtPF7uNg

The back of my head is flat, too. I like to wear a scarf partially over my ears and it won't stay, even with pins. And they damage my scarves. Maybe I should braid it and pull the ends of the scarf down through the base of the braid and tie it. Then I could bun the hair. The scarf might stay if I pin the front.

What I do is placing the scarf slightly lower than I want it to end up.

But perhaps scarf/hijap clips or pins would work for you? Some are more descrete and some are really beautiful. I know that medieval women also used pins, to keep their veils in place.

Kat, that is a great set of ideas, thank you! I'm definitely going to try that Amish technique with the barrettes. The video was also great for strategies. I'll see if I can get one of those velvet bands and wig clips to try the next time I'm at a beauty store.

Spirals, I'm glad I'm not alone! The only way I can really get them to stay right now is if I tie them all the way over my ears, which is ok sometimes, but looks kind of severe on me. The braiding strategy sounds like a good idea!

TatsuOni, Hijab pins are a fantastic idea. Something like those that can go through both the scarf and my hair would probably be a big help.

Thank you all! It sounds like it's time to do a little shopping and experimenting!

I don't usually leave any hair showing up front--not only does it make it harder to keep a headscarf in place, but it also tends to cause some extra tanglies at the point where the edge of the scarf lies. There are two strategies that help:

1. Giving the scarf traction from underneath, before you tie it. For the "the back of my head is flat!" problems, you might try putting your hair into one English braid so that you have a very secure nook against which to knot the scarf (more so than against your bare head or a smallish bun). Adding slippery cloth on top of less-slippery cloth also helps. enting was very kind when I first joined the site to send some pictures of a velvet wig grip of hers. (Think this kind of thing (https://wrapunzel.com/store/no-velcro-no-slip-headband/)). I was able to sew one from some old scraps of nappy fabric. You place it so that the nap faces towards the front of your head, thereby catching the scarf tied on top of it and preventing it from slipping backwards. Sometimes I tie a plain cotton scarf under a satin one, so that the cotton gives it some grip. Or there's bonnets! This one (https://middleeasternmall.com/collections/hijab-caps/products/womens-large-khatib-cotton-snood-underscarf-hijab-cap-in-18-colors) is the only kind that I've found that's big enough to accommodate a large bun. It's worth buying cotton bonnets specifically. The bonnet from an al-amira, for instance, is almost always slippery itself and not of much use as the foundation for a slippery scarf.

2. Securing the scarf from above or through the fabric, after it has been tied. I don't do this much anymore, but when I first started covering my head full-time I used the small, snap-type barrettes/hair clips (https://www.claires.com/us/polka-dot-striped-snap-hair-clips---12-pack-245506.html?cgid=fashion-barrettes) a lot. I would put one at each temple as well as one on either side of the nape--over the scarf and through my hair underneath. You can usually pick up a variety of colors very cheaply, so they can be matched to the scarves or your outfit. The one big downside is that the colored ones often have a rubbery or latex coating on them (very good for grip!) that falls off over time. Judging by my image search to find the link above, though, it seems like it's more common these days for the metal itself to be painted. If you really need a scarf to stay rock-solid, straight pins are the way to go. You can pin through one layer of scarf down to a bonnet or other scarf underneath. My very best trick is to put my hair into two Dutch or lace braids starting from the temple, tie the scarf, and then put straight pins through the scarf and the braids. (You can kind of do the same thing with a crown braid, but the pinning doesn't work as well if the braid is thick.)

I've been trying to wear this green starry scarf more. I love it, but I get slightly self conscious about the fortune teller vibes it gives off, lol.

This is worn over a (very messy) crown braid! I start my crown braids above my left temple, so the "tail" ends up going across the front from left to right like an accent braid. Here, I pulled it out from under the scarf a bit.

Bonus: I wore the same scarf like a headband with the flowy ends wrapped up with my hair into a nautilus bun a while back.

Okay, here we go:

https://i.postimg.cc/SKTTV3Jc/IMG-20220504-190154878.jpg (https://postimg.cc/FfSVHPbK)

(Link (https://i.postimg.cc/SKTTV3Jc/IMG-20220504-190154878.jpg) in case you need to zoom in more)

1a-c: These are all very small square silk scarves: red with greenish details, a kind of coppery brown, and blue/black. They're too small for any of the scarf-dos I typically wear, but could be tied at the back of the head if you're not too picky about all your hair being covered.

2. Slightly larger square scarf in pitch-black. It's a slightly scratchy, very synthetic knit fabric and has a small worn spot on it.

3. This one and the next are scarves I wouldn't wear by themselves, but would add on to some other scarf-do. I think this one may actually have been meant to be a belt. It's a very long rectangle cut on the bias. It's super-slippery and has an iridescent tan-and-green tone to it. Very pretty!

4. Very thin rectangle in a light tan color. This is made of some kind of slightly stretchy fabric that I wouldn't dare try to identify and has "cutwork"-style decorations.

5. Square scarves! This is a very large square scarf in light cotton with a blue and white batik pattern. Super soft for being cotton.

6. Average-size square scarf, purple with a printed pattern and soft silver metallic threads running through it. Has faded a little with age.

7. Average-size square scarf, purple at the edges with an orangeish/tan pattern in the center and lots of gold metallic threads shot through. This one is heavier-weight.

8. Average-size square scarf, a kind of red/purple cusp color ("mulberry"?) with silver metallic threads. Medium weight.

9. Slightly smaller than average square scarf. It's light blue with a floral pattern. The edges are unfinished so it's a little delicate. Wool and cotton mix. I think this one is very handsome, but I'm always afraid I'm accidentally going to destroy it.

10. Ho boy, this is a weird one and I've never known what to do with it so maybe one of you-all will. It's almost a giiiiiiiiiiant square but is not quite equal on all sides. Blue-grey print pattern all over with the edges all dyed solid in the same color. It's a super, super soft synthetic fabric.

11. Long rectangular scarves from here on out. This one I think may have originally been an "infinity scarf" that somebody cut into a flat piece, because it has one seam and an unfinished edge. Nice brown color with blue and red details in it; soft lightweight rayon.

12. SparrowWings, I think this one may work for you. This is a cotton scarf with blue and white horizontal stripes that I wore for years and years, but which has become increasingly discolored with age. It's not super-thick but the fabric is tough so it could make decent "mucking-up" headwear for somebody.

13. I'm certain this was meant to be a shawl rather than a headscarf. A friend gave it to me and it's so nice, but I just don't see how I would put it into daily wear. It's got a soft net base with velvet patterns on top and beaded fringes on both sides.

14. Very lightweight cotton scarf with colors that slowly modulate from deep to light blue.

15. Shiny, cotton + metallic scarf. It's got a slightly more gold/warm tone, but can pass for silver in some lights. Has knotted fringe on both short ends.

16. Blue and yellow. This scarf is unusually wide but it's got a "crinkly" fabric like a broomstick skirt, so if you don't make the effort to coax it to be flat it works out to more typical proportions.

17. Extra-long, off-white with brown polka dots. This is made of some super-slippery synthetic fabric that is not quite opaque.

18. Soft nubby cotton with knotted fringe at both ends. The color is an interesting mix of blue, black, and purple blotches.

19. Very soft! I think this was probably meant to be a "faux-cashmere" scarf, but it's actually a knit fabric. Zig-zag pattern in green at the center, solid blue at the edes.

20. Extra, extra-long solid grey scarf in a jersey knit.

21. "Crisp" rayon scarf with kind of a leaf design in blue, green, and purple.

22. This one is homemade from the trimmings my mother took off a dress. I love the colors so much, but have found them impossible to match to an outfit. It has a yellow background with very vibrant green circular designs on it.

Typical distracted me, I saw your post, didn't have time to reply right then, and ... forgot. In any case, #12 sounds perfect! And bonus points for the pattern being minor and unlikely to obscure visibility of any (admittedly rarely found on my head) ticks.

I'm wondering if #20 might also make sense, though perhaps more as a winter one. Extra length for extra layers, stretchy for better coverage of cheeks and ears instead of just hair, and less likely to be destroyed by typical winter activities, as compared to crawling under and through branches and brush and thorns in warmer weather. Though if anyone else is also interested for a more typical light-duty head covering purpose, please give them priority!

Abacus I think this style looks both practical and stylish.

I'm excited to try protective wrapping. Yesterday I was at the beach with a wide brim hat on. But it was so windy that some of my hair was escaping my braid and whipping around. That and they fact I'm trying to protect my hair a bit more was enough for me to jump online and order a couple of square scarfs.

I hope the colours suit me, it's hard to tell from online pictures sometimes. I guess I can gift them if not.

*Kind of rambling out loud here*

Part of me would still like to wear headcoverings at church (I used to, years and years ago, and then stopped). Often/usually at church I'm in a choir robe, so headcovering doesn't need to match my actual clothing and I've been wanting to find an ivory-colored headcovering to match the ivory-colored choir robe-- something like chiffon, maybe, to be a bit fancy. I haven't found just the right one yet, though (and don't have faith in my chiffon-sewing skills, and am not certain where I'd get chiffon, anyway. I mean, online, obviously, but do I really want to pay $8+ to ship half a yard of fabric?).

There's this seller on Etsy (https://www.etsy.com/shop/RuttShop?ref=simple-shop-header-name&listing_id=987875905), though (and they have a second shop (https://www.etsy.com/shop/RuttUSA?ref=simple-shop-header-name&listing_id=1136376671)), with really unobtrusive headcoverings and I've thought of getting one in brown (like this one (https://www.etsy.com/listing/868548419/brown-head-covering-church-mantilla?click_key=ee7362977ab85baefed7070a6e6e0bf 72aae17eb%3A868548419&click_sum=df9ead2f&ref=shop_home_active_24&crt=1)), so it sort of blends with my hair and isn't really obvious (I'd wear it kerchief-style with the sides tied under my hair-- hanging loose like in the picture is too obvious and also too Catholic-looking for a non-Catholic at a non-Catholic church). The idea of it being not very noticeable appeals to me, because I really have no desire to talk about my headcovering or why I do it or anything-- it's not for the "traditional" reasons (anyone who knows me would die laughing at the thought of me "submitting" to any man, and my religious leanings are nowhere near conservative), and it's hard for me to articulate why I do it or what it means to me, so I'd rather not be asked about it, so a barely-there headcovering would be ideal. (And the good thing about "matches my hair" is that it doesn't matter if it matches anything else I have on, though white and black are pretty universal as well.) OTOH, I'm not sure if I feel it "counts" to wear a headcovering that can barely be seen/is really sheer?

(I would also think about getting one in off-white to match the choir robe. I like best the embroidery on this one (https://www.etsy.com/listing/840868998/traditional-catholic-black-mantilla-with?click_key=ece2a6b50162de542e46db2366e9c3fa8a5 a5139%3A840868998&click_sum=8969a5c6&ref=user_profile&frs=1); just imagine it in brown with brown embroidery and ivory with ivory embroidery, though it's a bit pricey... I'm thinking about getting both colors in this one (https://www.etsy.com/listing/1122013236/ready-to-ship-headband-kerchief-head?click_key=ee4def38aac07e2970c86625b8baa4d7069 f3edf%3A1122013236&click_sum=feeb00d4&ref=user_profile&frs=1) to try out whether I like the fabric and barely-there style. I like the ones with embroidery, but the ones that cost less than my favorite are narrower than I'd like-- I thought of asking if they can do a custom order, though, just a few inches wider than normal.)

Oh, the one that's your favorite is so pretty, BVU!

I recently went to an Egyptian cultural festival about an hour away from me and let a lady talk me into buying an abaya in large part because I knew I had a scarf that would match it near-exactly. Home I came, thirty dollars poorer, and no such scarf was in evidence! I actually called my mother, thinking perhaps I had somehow left it at my parents' house when I was visiting over the summer. Today I found the missing scarf. . . at the bottom of a grocery bag. Still have no clue why or when I put it there.

This is the one i wore to church today (for Palm Sunday... it went with the green-patterned dress I wore and wasn't quite a match for the green wrap I also had on, but still). I'm not usually inclined to wear colored coverings to church; since I'm usually in a choir robe, it doesn't matter so much to match what I'm wearing underneath, and of course I don't want it to clash with the choir stole color. (That's why I'm in the market for church-dressy coverings in ivory (to match the choir robe) or brown (to match my hair so clothes/robe don't even come into it). But this one is such a pretty color and just right for Palm Sunday, even if it doesn't match the liturgical color.

A couple more, from today. Both of the "cowl" or "buff" style. As noted in the comments on the brown one, I have several of this style though they're usually worn for workouts. Earlier today I was wearing the brown one, and then when I went out later I wore the other one. I tend to sort of gather the back together to make it flare less. Also because I'm not fond of the look of the back of this style, sometimes... the back part tends to want to hang lower than the part that goes on top of my hair, and sometimes it gets a weird floppy funnel look. So binding it a bit makes it sit a bit nicer on me.

mochichichi, to answer your question I took pictures, because I am useless with written descriptions and explanations. Basically I tuck the loose end of the scarf inside the pocket that I create with my fingers at the back as I go. The process:

https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=48905&d=1682587572

And the result (it depends on how neatly I tuck it in). Also the last picture is a variation of the same - instead of just tucking, I also pull the tucked part from the underneath - I use that style when I want to protect my neck from the sun:

https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=48906&d=1682587596

I have never seen a tutorial for this particular style on the internet, so hopefully these pictures will help. My DH and I sort of invented this style for ourselves and I have not seen it yet on anyone else, though I am sure we are not the only ones who wear tube scarves this way.
