View Full Version : tacky Christmas hairdo needed

My office Christmas party is tomorrow. I have a ball each of green and red yarn that I was going to make a paranda out of to use in a braided bun. But now that seems insufficiently tacky. A proper Christmas hairdo needs to be excessively tacky. Any suggestions? I have plenty of yarn. Must be an updo, must be fairly easy for me to do before work, and I need the idea in the next 11 hours since that's when I leave for work.

Or just let me rejoice in wonderfully tacky Christmas hairdos that are impractical for an office party. That would be fun too.

Google "rudolph hair bun"

All you need are three pins (U or bobby), two googly eyes (or draw silly eyes on paper), one red pompom (made from your red yarn), a few brown pipe cleaners, and a glue gun.

Often shown on a sock bun, but cinnamon does just as well.

I wear mine with a light up antler headband instead of the pipe cleaners.

I should have put one more parameter: I don't want to go and buy anything. It's cold and slushy outside tonight. I'm afraid I own no pipe cleaners.

Not too tacky! Too complicated though, I'm afraid, to do in the morning before work. I'd want to have an hour free before I attempted that beautiful monstrosity, and I'm not willing to wake up that early.

Since we're on the topic, anybody know how to do the water bottle or other support trick with really extra long hair? I tried it one time with a ball of tulle and had tons of leftover hair at the top.

If you go Rudolf.....perhaps you could use the ends of small tree branches for antlers and just weave them into the bun

Too tacky?

How does she have such beautiful shiny hair when she does that to it?!

If you have huge, Christmassy ribbons you can use them to decorate the bun.

Maybe make a list of what you've got right now, so we can suggest better options.

This really does need pictures :o

Do you have any christmastree decorations?
I once put a fake silver garland around my bun and fluffy red balls

I went with my original idea. I did make a gigantic paranda so I'd have a gigantic, head eating bun. It really needs some Christmas ornaments or bows to make it truly tacky. Alas, I own none at all. I just got my own place and am too busy getting it set up for everyday to do Christmas decorations.

Just drop into the nearest Dollar Store. They're bound to have some cheap ornaments...

ETA: But your paranda looks very pretty!

I love the holiday paranda! Makes me think that I may need one of those long tensile boa things (what are those called!?) to have on hand for emergency braid ins.
