I've searched and searched, but cannot find a current "Growing Out Layers Thread".

I've read and participated in the Growing Out Layers, a Place to Complain (https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=47351) thread, but I'm tired of complaining (well, mostly :)), and want to get on with the growing. It is such an encouragement to me to see others on the same path and hearing advice from the ones that have already grown out their layers.

In the past, I have always kept my hair cut about chin-length while "trying" to grow out layers (usually from a pixie-cut). I don't know why I thought my hair had to stay at chin-length during the grow-out, because that is SO not a good length for my face shape. Anyway, by keeping it at this unflattering length, I would always cave and cut it back to (usually) a very layered pixie-length again.

So this time, I've been letting all my hair grow until I get somewhere around collarbone length to get it trimmed. That's helped me keep growing instead of cutting. My longest hair is now collarbone length, but the ends of my shorter layers (starting about 4" above the longest length) are getting pretty dried-out and unhealthy looking. So I'm planning my first trim for next week. I'm hoping to get my hubby to just trim off 1/2" of the hem on Wednesday, since that is the six month anniversary from my last trim. Going six months without a cut has got to be a record for me, so yes, I'm celebrating! :happydance:

Here is where I was on April 15, 2019 (length grown out to chin-length again):

And my most current picture on August 28, 2019:

Those frizzy ends are driving me crazy! :taz:

So, is anyone else on this same journey or have you "been there done that" and got advice? If so, I would love to hear about it. :D

Here's our general thread for growing out layers:

(advanced search, put in "layers" and search "titles only")

Thanks for the tips Lapushka. As I said in my original post, I have been reading and posting on the "Growing Out Layers, A Place to Complain" thread. But since the title qualified it as a "Place to Complain," I didn't think adding growth milestones and/or pics were appropriate there. And since there were no current threads to that effect, and I thought others might be looking for the same type of thread, I made the post.

Sorry if I was unclear as to my intent and purpose. And again, thank you for your help! :)

Wow, you got some good growth there sillyme. :o

It took me 2 years and a big chop to get rid of all of mine, but I had lots and lots of short layers on longer hair.

Though I’d love to just get rid of the layers all at once, I am not willing to do any big chops. I’m planning to trim it slowly, about 1/4” per year. I think I have around 6-8” to catch up on so that’s a lot of years.

Thanks S&S, it was only when I looked at my pics that I realized how fast it seems to be growing. I am not a very patient grower. :)

I'm thinking that since I am starting monthly 1/2" trims now, that at least I'll have something to look forward to as I grow out the layers. The six months since my last trim in March seemed to be forever. I'm thinking it will be another 6-8 months to grow out all the layers.
