View Full Version : Blonde Again! (Pic)

Last June I did something I always wanted to do--become a brunette. I really loved it, but with my fine straight hair, there was no lift in my hair to hide the new growth. I started seeing silvers coming back within just a few days of touching up the roots. It was become too high-maintenance for me, so for the past few weeks I've been doing intensive honey treatments, hot olive oil treatments in order to lighten my hair up. Today my hair got to a place where I felt confident to dye it blonde again.
Here's the result. I guess I'll need a new siggy pic and avatar soon.

Beautiful job, Frannybobkins! You are gorgeous no matter what color you use! But the blonde is definitely working for you! (And now you know why I decided to let nature do its thing with my hair...my roots also began to show within a couple of days and I just cannot do the blonde thing; it looks funny on me!) You, on the other hand...GAWJUS! (Picture Babs saying it!)

Pretty hair, Franny. :)
I've always wondered how I would like being a brunette. My hair is naturally blonde. I did color my hair red, once, when I was a teenager. The color wouldn't come out for months. (It was only supposed to last for a couple shampoos.)

Oh I love it too! Wow! I have been fighting off the urge to to go a bit blonder. Mine is lighter on top also where there is more gray coming in. I may get some more highlights just to make it look lighter rather than lightening it all over. I would be interested too in what color you used!

I have to admit, I liked the brunette on you, but I like the blond as well. You're a lucky girl that can have it both ways! :flower: Your hair, no matter what the color, always looks shiny and smooth. It also seems to grow fast! What are you eating, girl!? :)

I like both the brunette and blonde on you. I'm sure you'll also enjoy the lower maintenance. I can't believe how your length just jumps in every picture!

After I started this thread I was off the computer for the night, so what a surprise to see so many sweet replies this morning! :inlove:
Thank you all so much for your kind and supportive words and lovely compliments. :flowers::flowers::flowers: It was a big decision for me to dye all of my hair again, but I did a lot of preparatory treatments and I felt good about doing it. From now on I'll just be able to colour the roots only again.
To answer a couple of questions that came up, firstly, I did not achieve the lightness with honey and other treatments alone. When the treatments I was doing got me down to a light enough colour, I used a blonde dye--whole head.
I used Clairol L'Image Medium Ash Blonde. I know it doesn't look the least bit ashy, but my hair never does. I have to use Ash tones or else my hair goes really golden to the point of brassy.
Again, I can't thank you all enough! :heartbeat

Franny, you look georgeous with both colors but I know about the high maintenance when you dye your hair. So I try to go back to my medium ash blonde from henna again and I would love to hear from you how many treatments with oils or honey you did and how you did it exactly, please:)
TIA

Yay for blondeness! It looks lovely. :D Especially nice to be fair during Spring/Summer. (Although it did look good brown as well).
(I went back to blonde this year too and I'm getting my self-confidence back as a result. Proves that for some of us lightening up physically helps one lighten up psychologically. Not sure why it's true, but it's true for me!)

That is a beatiful rich shade of blonde just from honey & olive oil treatments. Is your hair naturally that straight, or do you use any form of heat to get it looking so smooth? Your hair is getting so long. Wonderful!

trollkjerring, I think that henna is much more difficult to remove than dye is, but I'll tell you what I did.
I did treatments of one part honey, one part olive oil and two parts of conditioner for sometimes more than 8 hours at a time. Occasionally I would do a hot olive oil treatment and let that soak for a good long time. Slowly but surely, the dark colour faded. When I hit a very dark blonde shade, I continued the treatments so that some of the gold would come out.
I felt ready to dye it blonde at that point. I probably could/should have continued the treatments to lighten it further, but I know that my hair always holds onto gold, so I just went for it.
I spent about 3 weeks doing the honey and oil treatments, but I had the luxury of being able to do them for many hours at a time.
There is great information in the Honey Thread (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=148) for those of you who have henna. A lot of research has been done, and you will also find a lot of experimentation and the results by fellow LHCers. I hope that helps. :flower:

Your hair does look gorgeous - shiny and very healthy looking.
I am very happy to read that the honey lightening treatments got your hair to the level you wanted to be able to dye again and get the colour you wanted.
For future reference - olive oil is good in the treatments - Extra Virgin Olive Oil - is better - it has a higher peroxide content.

How exciting! It seems you can do no wrong: I thought brunette really suited you but the new colour is lovely too, and it sounds like it will be much easier to maintain. It was really interesting to see the honey-lightened pictures in your album, too.

Welcome back to the lighter side of life! I always thought you suited better as a blonde. It looks wonderful. You know what's weird, though? Other than brand, you and I use the same colour and look how different it looks on us.

Thank you all so much for taking the time to leave such kind comments. :flowers::flowers::flowers:
To answer a couple of questions, my hair is naturally stick straight. I don't use any heat appliances.
Also, I know that I cannot go to the red side. A failed experiment with that was a disaster so hideous that I can't even talk about it. :tmi:
Once again, you've all made my day! :sun: Thank you all again. :heartbeat
