View Full Version : Blonde Again! (Pic)

March 22nd, 2008, 05:29 PM
Last June I did something I always wanted to do--become a brunette. I really loved it, but with my fine straight hair, there was no lift in my hair to hide the new growth. I started seeing silvers coming back within just a few days of touching up the roots. It was become too high-maintenance for me, so for the past few weeks I've been doing intensive honey treatments, hot olive oil treatments in order to lighten my hair up. Today my hair got to a place where I felt confident to dye it blonde again.

Here's the result. I guess I'll need a new siggy pic and avatar soon.

March 22nd, 2008, 05:55 PM

March 22nd, 2008, 05:59 PM
Beautiful job, Frannybobkins! You are gorgeous no matter what color you use! But the blonde is definitely working for you! (And now you know why I decided to let nature do its thing with my hair...my roots also began to show within a couple of days and I just cannot do the blonde thing; it looks funny on me!) You, on the other hand...GAWJUS! (Picture Babs saying it!)

Oooo... Pretty! Franny the Blonde is back! :rockerdud:

March 22nd, 2008, 07:04 PM
Pretty hair, Franny. :)
I've always wondered how I would like being a brunette. My hair is naturally blonde. I did color my hair red, once, when I was a teenager. The color wouldn't come out for months. (It was only supposed to last for a couple shampoos.)

March 22nd, 2008, 07:05 PM
wow thats pretty and you certainly are getting longer too!

March 22nd, 2008, 07:18 PM
Yayyyyyyyy franny came back to the light side!!!!:luke:

March 22nd, 2008, 07:22 PM
Franny, it looks really great! I love that color- in my mind, it's always how I see you!:D

March 22nd, 2008, 07:37 PM
That's very pretty, frannyg.

March 22nd, 2008, 07:39 PM
Wow Franny it looks gorgeous! Your hair is so silky and shiny too, very nice.

I've always wanted to be a brunette too. The grass is always greener as they say. :)

March 22nd, 2008, 07:45 PM
WOW that light with just honey!!!? well done! Very healthy looking hair!

March 22nd, 2008, 08:04 PM
Love it Franny!!! Looks great! What brand did you use?

March 22nd, 2008, 08:08 PM
I really like it! Yay blond!

March 22nd, 2008, 08:10 PM
Oh I love it too! Wow! I have been fighting off the urge to to go a bit blonder. Mine is lighter on top also where there is more gray coming in. I may get some more highlights just to make it look lighter rather than lightening it all over. I would be interested too in what color you used!

March 22nd, 2008, 08:12 PM
It looks beautiful!!! And you still have a lovely shine!!!

P.S Your hair looks about and inch logger now then in your siggy pict woot woot!!

March 22nd, 2008, 08:14 PM
I have to admit, I liked the brunette on you, but I like the blond as well. You're a lucky girl that can have it both ways! :flower: Your hair, no matter what the color, always looks shiny and smooth. It also seems to grow fast! What are you eating, girl!? :)

March 22nd, 2008, 08:26 PM
Wooo! It looks lovely in any color, but I never really got used to seeing pics of you with it dark...

March 22nd, 2008, 10:19 PM
I like both the brunette and blonde on you. I'm sure you'll also enjoy the lower maintenance. I can't believe how your length just jumps in every picture!

March 23rd, 2008, 03:38 AM
After I started this thread I was off the computer for the night, so what a surprise to see so many sweet replies this morning! :inlove:

Thank you all so much for your kind and supportive words and lovely compliments. :flowers::flowers::flowers: It was a big decision for me to dye all of my hair again, but I did a lot of preparatory treatments and I felt good about doing it. From now on I'll just be able to colour the roots only again.

To answer a couple of questions that came up, firstly, I did not achieve the lightness with honey and other treatments alone. When the treatments I was doing got me down to a light enough colour, I used a blonde dye--whole head.

I used Clairol L'Image Medium Ash Blonde. I know it doesn't look the least bit ashy, but my hair never does. I have to use Ash tones or else my hair goes really golden to the point of brassy.

Again, I can't thank you all enough! :heartbeat

March 23rd, 2008, 06:15 AM
Franny, you look georgeous with both colors but I know about the high maintenance when you dye your hair. So I try to go back to my medium ash blonde from henna again and I would love to hear from you how many treatments with oils or honey you did and how you did it exactly, please:)

Very pretty blond shade. It looks like a honey color to me.
Nice and shiney too.

March 23rd, 2008, 06:40 AM
Yay for blondeness! It looks lovely. :D Especially nice to be fair during Spring/Summer. (Although it did look good brown as well).

(I went back to blonde this year too and I'm getting my self-confidence back as a result. Proves that for some of us lightening up physically helps one lighten up psychologically. Not sure why it's true, but it's true for me!)

March 23rd, 2008, 06:43 AM
That is a beatiful rich shade of blonde just from honey & olive oil treatments. Is your hair naturally that straight, or do you use any form of heat to get it looking so smooth? Your hair is getting so long. Wonderful!

March 23rd, 2008, 06:43 AM
trollkjerring, I think that henna is much more difficult to remove than dye is, but I'll tell you what I did.

I did treatments of one part honey, one part olive oil and two parts of conditioner for sometimes more than 8 hours at a time. Occasionally I would do a hot olive oil treatment and let that soak for a good long time. Slowly but surely, the dark colour faded. When I hit a very dark blonde shade, I continued the treatments so that some of the gold would come out.

I felt ready to dye it blonde at that point. I probably could/should have continued the treatments to lighten it further, but I know that my hair always holds onto gold, so I just went for it.

I spent about 3 weeks doing the honey and oil treatments, but I had the luxury of being able to do them for many hours at a time.

There is great information in the Honey Thread (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=148) for those of you who have henna. A lot of research has been done, and you will also find a lot of experimentation and the results by fellow LHCers. I hope that helps. :flower:

Beautiful, franny! And so LONG!!!!!!

March 23rd, 2008, 07:20 AM
Your hair always looks so compact. How do you do it? Lovely, lovely haircolour on you.

March 23rd, 2008, 07:27 AM
Your hair does look gorgeous - shiny and very healthy looking.

I am very happy to read that the honey lightening treatments got your hair to the level you wanted to be able to dye again and get the colour you wanted.

For future reference - olive oil is good in the treatments - Extra Virgin Olive Oil - is better - it has a higher peroxide content.

March 23rd, 2008, 07:27 AM
I love honey! Now, when will your siggy picture change back????

March 23rd, 2008, 07:36 AM
To simplify things for those interested - this post from the Honey thread has all of the basics.

March 23rd, 2008, 07:51 AM
I love your new color! Good choice! :)

March 23rd, 2008, 08:13 AM
Blonde suits you well! Looks gorgeous!!!

March 23rd, 2008, 08:24 AM
Like ripe wheat, Franny. Gorgeous. :)

March 23rd, 2008, 08:25 AM
How exciting! It seems you can do no wrong: I thought brunette really suited you but the new colour is lovely too, and it sounds like it will be much easier to maintain. It was really interesting to see the honey-lightened pictures in your album, too.

March 23rd, 2008, 08:31 AM
Oh, franny -- your hair is gorgeous!!! Such a pretty colour, and so silky.

(Not that I didn't like the brunette, too... Stunning, as well. But I always liked your hair blonde.)

March 23rd, 2008, 08:54 AM
It looks great, Franny! I really like blonde hair although I dye mine the opposite color :-)

March 23rd, 2008, 08:56 AM
Looks beautiful, such great shine...

March 23rd, 2008, 09:00 AM
Very nice! You have beautiful hair.

March 23rd, 2008, 09:03 AM
Your blonde hair looks great:cheese:.I have decided not to highlight my hair this year.I can't stand the dryness from it.Enjoy your new blonde!

March 23rd, 2008, 09:11 AM
Welcome back to the lighter side of life! I always thought you suited better as a blonde. It looks wonderful. You know what's weird, though? Other than brand, you and I use the same colour and look how different it looks on us.

March 23rd, 2008, 09:57 AM
Beautiful as alway Franny!

March 23rd, 2008, 10:01 AM
So gorgeous! And it looks completely natural, too. Good job!

March 23rd, 2008, 10:19 AM
Your hair is looking beautiful as a blonde, mind you had lovely hair as a brunette.

March 23rd, 2008, 10:59 AM
Agreeing with all above, looks great

March 23rd, 2008, 11:30 AM
Wow, what silky, healthy looking hair. It's getting so long too.

March 23rd, 2008, 11:31 AM
Are you sure that you don't want to join the red side, frannyg? ;)

March 23rd, 2008, 11:37 AM
Looks really nice.. I love the shade its perfect

March 23rd, 2008, 12:11 PM
Wow, lovely colour!

March 23rd, 2008, 03:17 PM
Thank you all so much for taking the time to leave such kind comments. :flowers::flowers::flowers:

To answer a couple of questions, my hair is naturally stick straight. I don't use any heat appliances.

Also, I know that I cannot go to the red side. A failed experiment with that was a disaster so hideous that I can't even talk about it. :tmi:

Once again, you've all made my day! :sun: Thank you all again. :heartbeat

March 23rd, 2008, 03:24 PM
It looks great, franny! You look stunning as always!
