Well, I’ve been a long time lurker ( I've been reading and learning everything I could from this website since 2011) and lost my logins for my old account. Anywhooo, my journey started in late 2010 when I had a horrible platinum blonde dye job at a hair salon go horribly wrong; I had my hair “blonde” by doing highlights all over for a few months, and figured going to an actual salon would give me crisper and healthier blonde than I could get from a box. Fast forward an hour and 45 mins, and the woman at the salon misinterpreted me and dyed my entire head platinum white lady Gaga white, which left burn marks allll over my scalp. I was just so shocked I thanked her and ran to my friends house, where she went over it with a darker blonde to make it look more “natural”. At that point my hair was FRIED from all the dye jobs and heat styling from that past year, and was a mossy shoulder length that was very damaged. From that point on, I decided to go back to my natural dark brown and try to grow my hair out nice and long, like what I had before all my cutting and styling jobs.
Fast forward to 2011, and after googling x amount of “how to make your hair grow fast and healthy”, it took me to the LHC. From 2011-2014, I did everything I could possibly do to help my hair: I stopped using heat, did protective styles, and used oils on the length and gently combed it to brush it out. It was a slowwww growth process after all the damage I had incurred on it, and the ends constantly needed to be cut. As my picture shows, you can see in the first one on the left (2013) that even though it was long, it was still damaged hair. After the middle picture in 2015-2016, I decided by November 2016 to just chop it all off, to see if it was be fuller and thicker shorter, and also cut any residual damage off. I rocked a lob for a while, and after that point decided to just let it go, and let it grow. The pic with the pink tank was a year ago now, June 2018.
My recent photo on the right shows such an improvement over my hair journey, and looks sooo much healthier than when I had it long on the far left! Honestly just letting it go and grow was the fastest way to get my long hair, and it appears I’ve finally reached hip length and am dabbling with tailbone length! I’m not as crazy as I was with my hair rituals, but I still never use heat (literally maybe once a year) and usually wear it up in protective styles, and if I wear it down I always make sure I have something to tie it up. I’m just so thankful for this community, and all the knowledge and friendly replies I’ve received over the course of my time, even if I had to start a new user name. Even though sometimes I still get a feeling to cut my hair, I love the ease of my hair as it is now, and am excited it’s growing long and strong, just with more time. ✌🏼https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/blob:https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/e3942c49-ffa6-49f9-b028-a49ca8d10610
