Sock buns are fun for lots of reasons, but they don't have to look like a basic donut!

What else can you do on a Sock Bun base?

Fun!
I have never done a sock bun! But I have two on my bun challenge so I'll share them here when they happen. :)

Ha! I can do one of these! Awesome. Pic's to follow. It won't be fancy but it will be and that's all that's needed.

Mine are too obvious compared to Torrin's and are from 2016 but hey! They looked cool...
I havent done them ever since, I do not know if they qualify though, it is the four strand sock bun

Ligeia Noire Your bun is so shiny and beautiful. Just out of curiosity, have you ever weighed your hair? That is one giant head-eating bun, I hope mine will one day reach that size

Hmm I haven't tried a sock bun in a long time. I last tried around BSL but the bun form showed through my hair no matter what I did so I gave up.

No. I am sure the weight is negligible. Thank you

It's been a long time since I wore a sockbun.
But here are some old pictures:

Absolutely gorgeous photos in here- I do wish I could pull this sort of hairstyle off myself, but unfortunately my hair's thin enough that there's no way it'd be able to cover the form underneath properly. A girl can dream, though! Maybe if I could find one that properly matches my hair color....

Wow Eresh ~ gorgeous :crush:
I have a hard time with the foam donuts these days but have better success with these bun makers (https://www.amazon.com/Sheevol-Beauty-Styling-Fashion-Accessory/dp/B072M9VLYK/ref=sr_1_8?keywords=bun+maker&qid=1554938277&s=gateway&sr=8-8).
They were bought a few years ago on Amazon to accommodate my changing hair color, and they are now easier to manage with longer wispy hair.
But I don't have enough hair/thickness to try any variations; my buns are so puny :rolling:

Mine is just my husband's sock :p

LOL great idea!
I started with my socks and pantyhose legs when I had less length, but my hair was too wispy to use and the forms worked better.
But then at Hip and TBL it was easier to use the bun maker; a quick roll up and done.
The other way is too tough on my old bones these days ;)

I bet but I don't really use it anymore.... no point in spending the money on a bun form...

I cannot even imagine what it is like at your length :thud:
Covering the form isn't possible for me, I don't have the thickness lol
But the strips are fast and easy, then I throw a scrunchie around it.
Though this bun can get tight and I have a sensitive scalp :headache:

Yeah that's why those pictures are from three years or so ago and why i used a sock. It's smaller but yeah it gets too heavy and very tangly because I have to start with a ponytail.

I’m the only one who has tried the rosettes. I’m not pleased completely with the rosettes. I’ll try again soon.

Looks good wildcat diva!
I haven't tried it because it will need too many pins to put it up like that.

Thank you, eresh. It did take a lot of pins.

My first successful sock bun. It's very... tall.

Although this isn't a variation on a sock bun it is my first decent looking sock bun. I was shocked that despite having a lot of layering cut into my hair I was still able to cover the entire bun form in the large size. Maybe when my layers get longer I will be able to do the jumbo one I have. :D

That is a very elegant look....that my wispiness would not attain ...or maintain

Gorgeous  ....and a great look on YOU.
I am not a fan of that style on MY pin head :p and often add scrunchies for a ruffle filler when I do it that way lol

I kind of like the look at first (around 4:32), the bun form with the rest of the hair flowing around it! That might be a cool style all on its own.
(I love the tidy look of a bun with a bun form, but no, really, what DO you do with the rest of your hair if it's long??? If you don't want to use it to add rosettes all around the bun and just want a plain bun? Also, I can't imagine intentionally making my bun any bigger!!)
