Greetings LHC. I am Noah, a long hair in the making at present. I am in my 40s and have long wanted to try growing my hair out. I have never had long hair proper before, having spent the vast majority of my life with a typical high and tight. I did have a regrettable, if short, mullet in junior high/early high school. Anyway, I finally made up my mind to give this a go and here I am with a fair amount of gray, but fortunately a thick head of hair or I might never have done this.

I feel I have just exited the awkward stage and progressed to whatever comes next. My bangs a still a bit too short to be able to reach a hair tie at my nape but I can tie a full pony that holds fairly well if I gather my hair straight back, and my wife finally convinced me last week that it looked great like that. So I guess the awkward stage is officially behind me, though I am still a bit self-conscious about wearing a higher pony.

I am not really firm on any length related goals at this point. I have had the nebulous goal of something in the vicinity of APL because that seemed long to me and an aesthetically pleasing length. The only firm goal I've had was a pony. I guess being "old" per my daughter, that is how I've always seen myself with long hair. I certainly plan to grow it longer from my current length but am still not sure where I'd stop. My wife has also been encouraging me to give the 'man bun" a go, so maybe I'll branch out in terms of style as well.

I came across LHC doing some hair care related research and found the advice really valuable and the community inspiring. Not that my wife and daughter haven't been helpful on occasion, but neither has long hair at the moment so I sought out other sources that might better meet my needs. I finally decided I join the community and offer my 2 cents and partake in some friendly hair related banter.

Still looks fairly short given the big difference in the length of my layers from growing out a buzz cut.

It surprises my how long it looks from the back. Eventually I want to even out the layers, but that will be down the road.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. It certainly does help to have support from family. Without it I might not have kept going.
