Jumping on this wagon, I will take my photos during the first week every month as my school schedule and lighting/weather allow. I have a striped shirt set aside for photos with 1/2 ince stripes. That should show the progress better.

Nope I’m shorter than you. I’m sitting just above shoulder and I’m spending this year growing out my layers, bangs and undercut and maintaining my length so I’m in a good place to grow for the year.

Not sure I can commit to EVERY month but I'll at least start! Here's a recent length shot - I'm used to a straight hem but since about bcl onwards my ends have often had a slight curl to them, although on occassion they do lie more straight. I don't think it's damage because they feel ok and aren't terribly splitty but I'm not sure why the curl over the last several months... Ideally I'd want to cut about an inch and a half to even out and thicken the hem anyways but classic is so close I just can't sacrifice the length yet!

Yep my eventual goal is Waist Length. So about 18 - 20 inches to go after I maintain. I tell myself this is a marathon not a sprint. I’d rather take my time have some patience and get there with a really full hemline. Than push and have it not look good. I also need it to look good for work. I really hate my undercut right now as it’s growing out.

I'm excited to join in :cheer: I've just given myself a trim so that my hemline is more U-shaped. I also shortened my face-framing layers, the shortest is just a touch above collar bone. I've left that heavy layer at the back, which is sitting around shoulder lenght, well alone. So I'll be happy to watch that grow in over the year.

Here is my photo for January, starting at around 38" after my trim. :) I am hoping to hit classic length this year with trims. Next time I will take my photo on wash day so my unstretched length is more accurate. The winter really makes my ends dry after a few days... :(

Thank you! I might grow a little beyond hip, but for the most part I am maintaining until my dye grows out ^-^ I'll be doing a small trim every couple months.

Taliesin Thank you!! It has improved a lot but still has a long way to go. At BSL my circ suddenly drops from 3" to 2" due to bleach damage!

I will be maintaining around waist for a while so my pictures will be more about letting my thickness travel down and less about gaining length. I have at least 7 cm of see-through ends I'd like to gradually trim off, that'll probably take me most of the year as I intend to microtrim.

I think I'll join. Is it necessary to post absolutely monthly, or is slight variation allowed? I will be microtrimming every 5-6 weeks, so I don't think monthly length documentation would be so accurate for me. It would just look confusing and like I didn't make any progress at all, so is it acceptable if I take a length shot after each trim and track those instead?

Right, here we go! After worrying all month that I hadn't gained any length (I've never tracked my growth before so I've no idea what my rate is like) I've gained half an inch, exactly what I was hoping for! I'm atleast on track to reach BCL (5 inches growth needed from December) and possibly even TBL (6 inches growth from December) by the end of the year. I'll be marking my tape measure BEFORE microtrim because that's just how it's worked out because I didn't fully think this through when I started.

Most probably due to a little one growing in my belly. Oh well, at least it's still growing, where I cut off the photo is where arm pit length is.

I measured and got 0,5 centimeter and when I counted the stripes on my shirt I am actually still above the same white line as last month ;) In one photo its more 'poofed out' and on the other its smoother and more inwards, thats why it also seems longer. Yea I can see now they are lined up slightly different but I still see good growth. Measuring can be tricky too and I know Ive gotten different readings on the same exact day so I just skip measuring now LOL. I think everything until apl seems to take the loooooongest but you are getting there!

Took a length shot before my trim on tuesday, so i could see this month's progress better, but my hair Never lies exactly the same in pics, so it's hard to gouge the actual growth... Oh well, i am fairly sure it grew somewhat. At least it looks like my demarcation line looks more even in the january pic.

I took my February picture today since I washed it. It’s now past the bottom strap of my bra and I tried to line the door knob up with where I think is waist legnth on me

Showing my monthly growth here. I have been negligent with moisturizing my hair this month due to family busyness, and you can definitely tell in the lack of lustre in my Jan pic - however, yet again, I have an increase in length! and my hemline is filling out nicely.

Just to repeat here for anyone new - my hair wasn't growing at all for most of last year, I began to trim and finally my hair grew an amazing 2 inches in 2 months! Trimming to healthy ends got my hair growing again.

I will only trim a half inch every 2 months for the rest of the year, and tomorrow is my 2 month trim.

Its been one month already! wow.

I decided to lighten my hair, so this month I bleached my dyed Jet Black hair and I dyed to a Mahogany color. (I had my hair in a hair stick to create some little weaves :) ) I think I am finally reaching BSL yey!

I was just past TBL at my last length photo, am now just an inch or so from classic. Thinking I may hit FTL this year!

My last length photo was from the very end of December, so I'll check in today with a length. Sadly, my previous skirt bit the dust, so I had to find a different skirt I could use to measure (quite difficult, when most of my skirts are solid in color).

That's a rare quality I think. Usually blonde hair appears less shiny compared to darker colors. Lucky you! :thumbsup:

Here I am with two pics that ( hopefully) show some growth. First one is from December, the second taken today.
I do it on wet hair because then it is longer ( dry ends up 2 cm shorter for shrinkage) and I somehow feel it shows better the actual lenght.

Nice growth! I definitely can see the growth as well and it is also very obvious that in your february photo your hair lays more wavy so that eats up a bit of the length for sure. It will get better each month!

I have a hard time believing my growth. I always try to keep my head as straight as possible in length shots to ensure their accuracy. There are less than two months and one microtrim between these shots, but it seems crazy to me just how much the transparent part has moved down!

I didn't manage a photo for Feb or March, so my next one will have to be in the beginning of April. I'm going to be trimming in April too, so I'm not sure if there will even be much difference in length from January. This winter has not been kind to my ends. :(

My hair didn't grow at all in the back :( sides are a bit longer but a bit wonky, my right half grows faster than my left half...well, at least I'm happy that I'm not the only one with lazy growth. Ladies, let's stay positive, by summer our hair will grow like weed and we wouldn't know what to do with all that hair haha.

Here's a new photo. The one on the left was taken February 19th and the other one today so it's been 25 days. In both pictures I've washed my hair in the morning and blow dried it. I don't know if I'm just being optimistic but I see some growth. :o

Yes it is... I started taking pictures this way because it shows the lenght while stretched. My hair looks like this about half an hour after the wash.
I’m not sure if I shouldn’t start taking pictures of dry hair instead. But then it’s shorter ;) a good inch for shrinkage. Go figure ..,

Kind of, but who knows, we all just make up our own rules and ways and that works well around here.

Measuring stretched isn't cheating, it's the easiest way to measure really curly hair. A lot of people do that.

I would think if anything that stretched would be the true actual length in inches/cm and curly would be the visual body marker.

I always measure with my hair brushed completely straight because the wave pattern varies day-to-day. Sometimes it'll dry almost straight and other times with loose spirals, with seemingly no rhyme or reason :P

Hmm... We've been having this convo in another thread too. I'm confused because I wouldn't want some one to tell me I'm cheating if I want to join the next length based thread. I've measure my hair stretched/straight for the last 8 years, it's not logical to me to measure it 'curly' when the only time it's in that state is right after a wash. But now that I've sworn off heat I don't wear it straight either. It's just up and away.

And that's just me but I see the same for other curlies, the lenght will always vary depending on wet or dry, styling, the position of the moon...not even kidding lol.

It's almost like telling straight hair ppl they're cheating for having straight hair. It's all there, just has to be unravelled to see, like a garden hose I like to say.

I'm not gonna take a pic of my unstretched hair every month, it's not gonna budge LOL

I think that was me in another thread saying I should use a washday photo for my monthly progress. I was thinking that my texture doesn't effect the length much and that the ones I had used so far were also the same texture. But for me that doesn't really effect length. It makes sense to want to see the length in a photo.
For measuring your hairs true length that obviously has to be done stretched right? I don't regularly measure my hair but when I do I always pull what little wave I do have straight. So idk why anyone would think that is cheating :lol:

Just to be safe i'm going to start this out with i'm not offended. i thought i would share how i do my photos and my measurements. for the circumstances of this thread being the monthly length photos i did decide to pick one day out of the month regardless of where i am in my wash cycle and how bouncy or not bouncy my curls are to take a picture on my natural hair. i chose the 20th since its in the middle of the month. i also take stretched length shots as well but i normally wait till a friday. i find that i use the 11th and the 22nd depending on where it falls closer to my wash. the reason why i do that is because i oiled it and used a BBB to distribute and braided it. i take it right out of two side 3 strand braids and bbb a bit and snap! i find it easiest to see my color demarcation line that way as well so i post that manipulated look both loose and stretched. i check the length and see how far the color has gone in about a month.

now as for measuring i do it on the 1st of the month on dry hair stretched by my DH. calling milestones i do in 3 steps. i'll claim it when i reach it wet,(verified by the DH which i call step one to be official) i'll call it stretched which is when i feel it is acceptable to start popping into the next thread down and appear less in the one that i was in. i consider my hair classic stretched officially (verified by LCHers with a picture and the DH's measurements). third i'll call it unstretched in which case i respectfully leave the graduated thread! feeling that i officially in my own eyes reached the milestone.

Hey, so yesterday it was time for my monthly photo. I don't see much progress from February except maybe the U-cut of my hair has become straighter (side hair has become longer). I don't really know so you can make your own conclusions.

I don't see much growth since 19th Feb... but my hair looks more the same length. It could be the slight curls at my ends, maybe making it look shorter this month. My hair is a weird thing. I wish it would grow!! But you can see it has decided to grow a bit since Oct - seems pretty slow. Also, I swear, the trim made it so much shorter. When I hit the 6 month mark of no trimming, I'm just gonna let it grow. Please grow, hair!

Yes, I think i see about a half inch. It looks like your hair has reached the bottom of the black stripe this month, it was halfway down the stripe in Feb.

Thank you! Yes, it is so cool to see the progress! It was totally unintentional after deciding to grow out my natural, just the leftover blonde from growing. I suppose as I keep doing my monthly search and destroy/micro trim, the blonde will be less and less. I want to reach classic! I love being a part of this community :)

I have to agree its very unique! I'm sure we are all happy to have you aboard the long hair train. Best of luck with Classic! Oh wow, its wonderful how healthy it is! Especially with the dye. My hair didn't take so well. It did love when I highlighted it red but I put so many different colors in the natural sceme it just damaged my hair after doing it too long. So natural color here I come lol!

Wow quite the gift! I also wash my hair once a week today is wash day with a protons treatment for about 20 minutes. I switch the treatment up every week. From oil to proteins to moisture. Seems to be working quite well.

i don't think that looks bad at all. it just looks like your waves gave you some shrinkage in the back. i would say if it bothers you ponytail it and let it be for a while. Other then that i think your hair is lovely.
