I've found that a little headbanging is a great way to maintain and separate my curls, instead of letting my comb destroy them. But is headbanging CG approved? Don't want to cause long-term damage.

Curls are delicate enough, to start.

I wouldn't do it, but then again I have straight hair that tangles easy. Your experiences may vary.

Haha!! I habitually do this when getting out the shower, after squeezing the water out with my hands. I learned this method when my hair was much shorter, it seemed to clump itself instead of doing the whole dance with the denman brush and a ton of hair gel.

I haven't had a single issue with this, and it's also very fun. :D I also enjoy metal, so my opinion is highly biased.

I've never had hair long enough to move...even my pompadour was never out of place. Well behaved hair.

One time my hairdresser told me to shake my head. I did, and nothing moved.

This long hair thing is all new to me.

I do this while my hair is drying!

My personal headbanging favorites:

"Mother" by Danzig
"Free Bird" by Lynyrd Skynyrd
"Enter Sandman" by Metallica

YMMV... :p

Haha I do this to refresh the curls after wearing them in a pony/updo. Now my hair is to long not to knock things down, so instead I dig my hand in my roots and shake. If you understand what I mean. It gives the same effect.

My biggest problem when headbanging in the living room is avoiding the ceiling fan

So far, I've been very lucky! 8)

Well I'm not to that point yet. My god, did I just say yet?

I'll keep it in mind if I do No-Trim-2019.

Someone else started a thread about this a couple years ago, for a slightly different issue:https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=134493
I suspect it's more common than you'd think from how much people talk about it normally!

I use this a lot to separate my hair after it's been in a bun or braid. Turns out way less frizzy than if I used my fingers. Though I have to be careful of my surroundings at this length
